Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Possible 70 Win Season?!?!??!

Well ladies and gentlemen as we are now past the halfway mark of the season we notice something rather interesting.  Our glorious Phoenix Suns are actually on pace for a 70 win season!!  Disregard our horrific start this season and you notice that the Suns have a pretty decent chance of accomplishing this.  Does winning 70 games matter?  Only if it means securing the first spot over Dallas, but other than that no.  Winning 70 would just be an epic milestone for an epic team.  As far as i know only the 95' Bulls broke the 70 W mark with a record of 72-10.  All that really matter in the end though is winning those rings in the Finals, and we have a long and very tough road to travel before we can even dream of that outcome.  But please let me know what you think of the very real possibility of a 70 WIN season.

not a chance
I like to stay optimistic, but as Steve likes to point out we aren't playing that great. We still got 2 spurs games, 2 dallas games, 3 nuggets games, 3 lakers games, 2 houston games and 1 detroit game left. Even if we manage to go 9-4 in all those games we have to win all the other 26 games. But, you know, always fun to think about it.

70 wins
To crack 70 wins would be extremely difficult but still possible.  Yes, the Suns haven't played great basketball in a lot of their games but they also step up their defense and force the other team to play sloppy too.  Look at Dallas, we didn't play great the entire game (and had a disasterous 1st quarter) but we still made stops and forced Dallas to play mediocre - coming within one missed shot of winning.

I think we can beat the competition in the West.  All of the losses except the last Dallas Game wer part of the Suns' 3-6 start when things hadn't gelled yet (and STAT was playing poorly).  We're simply a different team since November.  And even with that terrible opening record, we still haven't lost a game by double digits.  I predict we will win 3 out of the 4 match ups with San Antonio, Utah, Lakers and Dallas.  Incidently, 3 of those games are at home and the Suns have only lost one game on their court since the middle of November.

If we can beat the elite 75% of the time from hereon out then I think we have a decent chance at 70 wins.  But it requires the Suns staying healthy and getting Kurt Thomas back at 100% in March.

Agreed
Oh I indeed do realize that 70 W's is a very tall order, i was just puting it out there to talk about.  But as you said it is indeed a doable objective considering our pace.  Those big games we have left do indeed worry me though.  I really need to see some wins against the Spurs, Lakers and especially Dallas before this season is over.  But once Kurt returns and once the Suns start playing more consistant ball (not just W's, playing better during games) then those 70 wins will look very real indeed.

Oh happy day
Well that 70 W season is looking better after a nice 17th W in a row against the Cavs tonight.  ChaChing!!!!!!!

70 W Season...
I think a 70 win season would cap off a perfect season but can the players sustain that kind of tempo? They seemed very tired friday but came back big on sunday to beat a Cavs team that was hungry to put a stop to the Suns win streak. All I can say is that this has been a wonderful season and I hope it lasts up and thru to the NBA championships!!!

Amen
Amen brother amen.  We shall see what fruits the Suns bear from this regular season.  Oh yes, we shall see.
