Game Thread: Phoenix Suns vs San Antonio Spurs

So I had a huge post all ready to put up.  It talked about how this is a big game.  Probably the biggest game left before the end of the season.  Sure, there are two Lakers games and one Jazz game remaining but if the Suns win this game then the race for 2nd place in the West is pretty much over.  It had some great comments in it, some good research and for once it even had some funny parts.  And what happened?  I somehow deleted it.

So now all you get is this:  8 games left, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, 2nd seed in the West is on the line.  Discuss.

And check out Pounding the Rock to see if they ever get a game thread up there.

That is all.

Time for the Suns to play at their pace and burn the Spurs so bad that they'll be scarred for life.  In truth i know this will be one hell of a close game, especially since it's on the Spurs home turf, but i have faith.  It'll be a nail biter and i think the keys of the game lie in keeping our pace, having our shots drop and dominating the paint a la STAT and Matrix.  God Speed Suns, for this shall be a battle.

Good luck, Suns
This is going to be one heck of a game, with both teams playing for the #2 seed, yet knowing that a loss is not the end of the season.  This will be a test of how the Suns match up against Duncan, Manu, et al. Their 3 point shots and the 3 point defense will both be put to the test.

I read the Spurs are starting a 7-footer to contain Amare. As long as STAT does not get in foul trouble, we have a chance of winning.

Unfortunately (as usual) I have to miss the first half because of a meeting that starts at 6:30pm. However, I have set my VCR to tape the action. I hope the results will be EXCELLENT for the Suns.

Playoff Intensity
needs to be maintained. No time to get into a lull. Contain Tony Parker. Sharp ball movement.

Watched six baseball games since the season opened...this'll be a welcome change.

Nine minutes in - Spurs by six
Suns look out of sync , not hitting the threes either. This ain't good. Duncan with the quick two fouls , that's good...but his replacement - the Brazilian - is able.

The brighter side is...
The Suns have a two game lead over San Antonio. They can afford to lose one more game rest of the way, and still retain the #2 seed.

I was able to watch only the second half. I was pleasantly surprised that the Suns were leading by a point at the half. The 3rd Q was a killer but the Suns got to within 4 points in the final 2 minutes. Just a little better concentration could have tied or won the game for them.

Unfortunately the Suns could not take advantage of SA's poor FT shooting because the Suns shot just 70% FT themselves. That's one area where our guys have no excuse. They HAVE to make the FT's- they are FREE throws- FREE points.

I think the Suns can use this as a learning experience. They will certainly play SA again this season, and they will not make the same mistakes they made tonight. My feeling was that they were too hyped up before the game and a little too nervous. They will need to go back to playing more relaxed, fun type game where they shoot better and usually blow away the opponents.

So no major damage done. It is just one regular season game.

Good luck in NOK tomorrow! Go Suns!

P.S.- Our friend TexSun was at the game. It's too bad she did not get to watch the Suns demolish the Spurs.

P.S.
I am not too worried as a result of this game. Th eSuns played pretty well against the Spurs last two times. As long as the Suns recognize the problems and fix them before their next meeting, this loss could be a blessing in disguise.

Now if they start losing games the way they did after the March 14 Dallas game, I will be worried.
