Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Maybe not so bad

I tried to tell myself otherwise, but I had a feeling this was coming. It just seemed like the way the week has gone, that it would be downright shocking for the Suns to get Atlanta's pick. And with the East doing little to improve (BOTH top two picks going to the West?), I can't see Atlanta not making the playoffs next year either. My guess? They'll just get in as the 8th seed. But that might mean the Suns would end up with a pick around 15th or so, and that might not be so bad. After all, we already have a pretty nice 15th pick playing on our team now, right? So, maybe some good can come of this after all. But for now, I just want to know...

...is it Friday yet?

I really...
can't see Atlanta making the playoffs.  None of the East teams got better, but none of them got worse, well the playoff teams at least.  Dwight will get better.  Dwade should hopefully be healthy.  And the Hawks missed the 1-2 spots, so it's not like they're going to be gangbusters next year, unless something really weird happens.  I'd say you guys still have a good chance at a top 10 pick next year.

Umm..
Count me among those who think that Atlanta could have been in contention for the playoffs this year, but instead elected to tank the season so they could keep their pick. They'll make the playoffs next year. Barely, but they will.

depends on health
they did some serious tanking, true (which could have cost them dearly if they didn't end up in the top three), but joe johnson was also injured. Don't forget, they could draft Yi and Yi could be either a star or a total bust. So this is hard to predict in terms of in the playoffs (on the cusp) or out (on the cusp). They will have no interest in tanking since the pick isn't theirs. But all y'all voting for 1-3 are out of your minds.

Don't forget NJ
All indications are that NJ is going to blow up that team and start over. That would drop them out of the top 8 and open a space for ATL. I also think the Hawks are very close to catching Orlando who w/o Grant Hill will have next to zero help for DH.

Atlanta
They may not make the playoffs next year, but they won't be in the bottom 7. Knowing that their 1st pick will go to Phx will motivate them to play their best and deny the Suns a high pick. I think the Suns should be happy with a #15 pick next year.

This year they did their best to lose games. Joe Johnson's 'injury' and other things helped. I would love to see them in the bottom 7 next year- what goes around comes around- but it may not happen in time for the Suns.

Any Cards' Fans?
Atlanta's pretty much the Cardinals of the NBA.  Even if they have a good start, they still suck.

"On, no!  We suck again!"

I'm not too worried.
