Steve Nash on Charlie Rose
[Thanks for the head's up, Sue B! For readers in the Dallas area, it looks like this will be shown Tuesday instead of Monday (2pm CT on Channel 13).]
I just saw that Steve Nash is going to be on the Charlie Rose show (on PBS) this Monday. Check your local listings!
If you've never watched Rose's show, he does long, in-depth interviews and usually manages to come up with new and interesting points of discussion with his interviewees, rather than the same old topics rehashed all over again. I hope that's the case this time although I'll enjoy it either way. I've got my timer set, and I'm looking forward to it!

Nice interview
If you're recording it, just tape the second half of the show. That's when Nash comes on.

I have to watch it again
Rose asked what made Michael Jordan so great, for instance, and Nash responded that people might not realize the importance of MJ's mental edge - how he got into his opponents' heads and actually intimidated them. So Rose asked if he (Nash) tried to do that, and Steve's response was that he can't physically intimidate anybody because he's too small, so he just tries to gain the edge mentally by "being unflappable".
I also thought it was interesting when he talked about how, although his first instinct is to set up other players, when it's the end of a close game, he wants to be the one to take on the responsibility of scoring.
Most of all, I liked whe he explained that one of his jobs is to read the other players - their body language, facial expressions, etc - and how the point guard sort of has to be a "mother". Ha. Not "mother**" - as in short for something else - mother, as in nurturer and caregiver. As a real mother, I thought that was pretty funny.
