Screw you, Shawn

You're a goddamn vulture.  Yeah, I said it.  VULTURE.

You make your money off others.  You are NOT A PRIMARY OPTION.  You are very, very talented, and could very well be a Pippen to Kobe's 'Jordan', but you CANNOT WIN ON YOUR OWN.  We've seen what happens when you're the primary option, and it's awful.

So go ahead:  go to the Fakers, be a traitor, just because your name ALWAYS COMES UP IN TRADE RUMORS (typical with high-dollar-high-value players) and the Suns don't want to discuss an extension whewn you still have TWO YEARS on the contract.

Fuck you.  Go.  Play with Kobe.  Kiss his ass and wonder why he doesn't pass it to you for the dunk.  DO IT!

My sentiments exactly, Doc...
I mean come on now.  You're slated to make over $16 mil for each of the next two years and you're unhappy with the franchise who deemed you worthy enough to agree to this current deal?

WTF?!?!

I'm sorry -- cuz I hate to stereotype professional athletes -- but Shawn Marion's latest quotes are the reason fans cannot stand overpaid jocks.

PROS

$16+ mil this year

$16+ mil next year

Veteran playing with teammates he blends will with who fits where his skill set lies

Player for Potential Championship Contender

Player for original NBA team who thought enough of him to draft him

Player for a franchise who was willing enough to set him up for life financially

CONS

Don't like being third behind Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire

Don't like being the constant subject of trade rumors

Team won't give me an extension to my already rich current contract

Not sure if I'm seeing the big pic here, but on paper it sure as hell looks like the pros far outnumber and far outweigh the cons...

How many of you would kill just to earn 1% of the Matrix's current deal?!?!

He needs to get in touch with reality and stick a sword in his overinflated ego...

i agree
the suns have set marion up for life, and Marion has provided entertainment. Good deal for everyone, but Marion is treating this "not getting an extension"
(2 yrs left...not 1!!), and "trade talk" (for one of the top 3 players in the last 10-15 years) as if someone stabbed him! He's too sensitive, that's why he disappears during the playoffs instead of getting tougher.

I think it boils down to his character, or lack of one, people can change Shawn, maybe some good can come out of this and you can wake up out of your "I'm the center of the world" universe and start acting differently. Are you really that mad at yourself for not being the best on the team, because
I think you are,

Webcast for media day
I didn't catch the whole broadcast... but was Marion interviewed at all? Or did he just shy away from the media?

There's one on AZCentral
There's a Marion video on AZCentral (see yesterday's blog entry), but it's kind of "hacked up". They only show Marion's answers, not the original questions he was asked. Plus from reading some other articles around the web, it looks like they left out some of what he said too. Still, there's enough there to conclude (1) he doesn't regret making the trade request, (2) he intends to play his best in spite of it, and (3) we shouldn't be expecting a public apology from him anytime soon. Guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Well, they say winning cures all ills.
Maybe he'll change his mind during the season if the Suns do really well and Steve Nash is able to make good on his pledge to "make it easier for him" (if such a thing is even possible). I'm not going to write him completely off as a lost cause until he's wearing another team's uniform, but I gotta admit, that interview didn't exactly make me leap for joy.
