Nash calls out Diaw

am I reading this right?

Did Nash just use media to throw one hell of a barb at Diaw?

"An unbelievable player," Nash said of the inconsistent Diaw. "When he uses all his weapons and is aggressive, he's a fantastic talent. I'd love to see him play like that all the time, and I don't mean the numbers. I mean being involved, being part of the game, putting pressure on the defense"

I translate that to mean "When you quit pouting and get off your lazy ass, we're, as a team, a hell of a lot better...so quit fucking around and get your head in the game!"

And Diaw could very well be a lynch pin in the pursuit of a title...

oh, and:   I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

Welcome back!
I was starting to think we had run you off somehow. Welcome back!

I think Nash is just pointing out what every Suns fan says every time we see a glimpse of how Diaw could really play if he wanted to. And yes, he's probably sending a message too, although I find it hard to believe Diaw hasn't already heard that exact same message from pretty much every player on the team. One thing's for sure: I don't ever want to hear that "can't play with Amare" excuse again. He proved last night that he can.

hey DrStrom
good article, thx for posting it (I missed it). I agree with your thoughts, I think the Suns need to hire a P.I. and track the things that happened to Diaw that day (of the game he actually played well) and try and figure out what happened. Because I think it's pretty clear the Diaw we saw play yesterday shows up once every 20 games! I honestly think it's all about motivation (for Diaw), if you look at the great players currently in the nba, it's about competing that drives them to keep improving and playing hard. I think Diaw would rather be friends with people than compete. He needs a shot of mean also!

Diaw's been improving
The Coach actually called him out a few weeks ago and Diaw has been improving since. His numbers last night were great and of course he was aggressive and made some nice plays. But his game has been slowly improving towards this and so its not all that surprising to see.

Diaw won't go against a doulbe and its really surprising how often teams do come with help when he gets the ball near the post. This is something the Bucks didn't do. Banks was also much more aggressive in taking the ball to the rim b/c the Bucks were playing tight on the Suns perimeter players and leaving the middle much more open then we are used to seeing. They switched this up later in the game btw which is why Nash's points went way up in the 2nd half. I think all of the Suns did a great job taking what the Buck D was giving and made them pay no matter what they tried. It was one of the better offensive efforts of the year based on ball movement and shot selection.

Diaw
You are dead on - Diaw IS the lynchpin for a championship.  I've said that before.  I just think he gets lost, and coach DA has a hard time getting through to him (see my synopsis on DA in Aluminum Foyle's Fire D'Antoni diary).

I've had discussions with my Mav fan friends here in Dallas, and they are afraid of STAT, of course, but they are afraid of Boris also.  That is because they know they cannot guard him.  I've said all along that the Suns have three unguardable players - no other NBA team has more than two.  Those players are STAT, Boris, and Barbosa.  Add Nash, who lulls people to sleep (how can a skinny white boy beat us?), and Grant Hill, and you have an unstoppable team.

I don't even bother to read these idiots who are saying the Lakers have caught up with us.  Give me a break.

Boris has given the whole NBA a collective sigh of relief with his regression.  If he starts playing up to his potential, it's lights out for the league, we WILL win.  Mark it down.  Think about it!  we are playing .700 ball, and our Tayshawn Prince (Boris - same $$) is playing awful!!

Lakers
I wouldn't say the Lakers have "caught up to us" so much as I think they are just having one of those seasons where everything goes right, meanwhile the Suns are having one of those seasons where various players get nipped with minor and/or lingering injuries (or illnesses) that keep them from being at 100% long enough to really bring it all together. I still think the Lakers are one-year wonders, but that may be enough to push them past the Suns for the division title if they manage to survive January and February. Come playoff time, though, all bets are off.

Or not...
Looks like the "everything goes right" is on hold for now:

Bynum got injured. However, they get a serious break in the schedule to deal with it, though. They only have two games this week, and one is against Seattle.

wow
that certainly changes the dynamic for Thursday's game if he's out...

On the Lakers in general, I think they are a VERY good team. Anytime you have Kobe and he doesn't have to carry the team like he's done in past years they are good. I certainly think that baring injuries to either team, we are in for a dog fight for the division and they will not go quitely in the playoff's.

I don't think they have passed us by any means but they are certainly much much better and clearly could beat us in a series if the Suns don't play very well.

Bynum
I saw that.  A bad break for Bynum.  I think he can be an all-star for years to come.  Did you see the interview with Kareem on TNT?  He is very proud of his star pupil.

Is it an unattainable dream to think STAT can learn to stop guys like that?

Probably...
...if he had Kareem as his mentor. One thing I've wondered is why the Suns have never gone after a mentor for Amare. Maybe Amare doesn't think he needs one?

Not Quite the Linchpin
If he's on, the Suns are unstoppable.  However, they can win it all without him.  He's icing on the cake, gravy or whatever fattening food he's eating that week.

I think it's because he finally got other Suns out to play with him ...

Great link!
No wonder some many athletes like playing in Phoenix! All this time I thought it was the weather...

you may as well...
call him Doris Meow, cuz he plays like a pussy. He learned how to make a fools gold NBA career from his mentor Tim Thomas, who basically taught him to only play in contract years.

mentor for STAT
You know who would be good?  Duncan.  but of course he's still playing.
