Laker's Andrew Bynum Out for Awhile

It sounds like Andrew Bynum's injury is going to keep him out a lot longer than just the couple of weeks I assumed when it was being described as a "sprained knee" this morning. ESPN reports that Bynum will be out for eight weeks with a left knee subluxation. If he really is out that long, that would mean he'll miss both of the remaining two regular season meetings between the Lakers and Suns. I don't know about anyone else, but I would much rather have faced these guys at full strength (for us as well as them). Too bad that's not going to happen again unless we meet them in the playoffs.

Don't celebrate yet Suns fans
Bynum might be out for 8 weeks but Kwami is back!

Kwame!
To quote my coldhearted sister, "I couldn't give two hoots about any player on another team.  Nobody felt sorry for the Suns when Joe Johnson broke his face, Raja hurt his leg, Steve Nash got his nose busted up and when Amare and Boris were suspended.  So I have to admit I'm not exactly bummed that Bynum hurt his knee."  Go Sis!!!

I guess Eddie Johnson will have to break out his "itty bitty baby hands" phrase now that Kwame is possibly back in the lineup!

Personal perspective
I don't feel one bit bad for the Lakers (although it would be far more satisfying to beat them at full strength). However, speaking strictly on an individual basis, this happens to be an injury that I have some personal experience with, and I don't wish it on anyone, certainly not a young guy in his 20's. Obviously it will probably be different for him that it was for me since I was well past 30 when it happened, but my knee has never really been the same since.

good point
After the last 2 losses, I'd rather be playing the lakers at full strength and see where things fall.
Bynum has been a big part of their new improved team this year. Plus, it's simple logic, if we play them twice at full strength, we can learn more about how to play and beat them than if we don't see Bynum again until the playoffs. But, there is the chance that missing Bynum starts hurting the lakers record...with the west so close, it wouldn't take much to slide a few spots or even out of the playoffs. The lakers, the spurs, and utah I think are our toughest in the west competitors..

knee cap injury
Isn't this what happened to Antonio McDyess?

Not sure about that...
...but a subluxation basically means the kneecap partially dislocated. I can speak from personal experience that it HURTS. Definitely one of the more painful injuries I've had, and it never fully went back to the way it was before the injury either. It was also kind of scary the first couple of weeks, because it kept feeling like it was going to pop out again if I stepped wrong or something.

Of course, my knees were already aging at twice the rate of the rest of my body when it happened, so it probably wouldn't be as nasty for someone with younger and healthier knees.

knees
I never had the kneecap injury, but I have had the ACL surgery twice on my left knee.  I wince whenever a player falls.

McDyess actually broke his kneecap.  He was totally out of commission for two years.  The Suns gave him a chance to work his game back up, and he repaid them by bolting to the Pistons.  They could use him now.

Kobe's back!
This is a good sign for us...

"Kobe Bryant, SG 42 21-44"

The next highest in FGA's was Odom w/ 15. Now that's the balance we are looking for in LA!
