Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Mega Trade Insta-take

Remember when AI came to Denver and people said that it wouldn't work and that there weren't enough shots to go around.

I guess those people were right. Sometimes people are.

For us, this means the West just got a little bit better. While AI is always going to be a tough cover the Nuggets added a clutch point guard that can defend and distribute the ball. That's exactly what they need.

The Pistons meanwhile will be able to score more points but still have a ton of valuable role players. This will help develop Stuckey and give him one more year before he has to carry the load himself.

Good deal for Detroit. Good deal for Denver. Bad news for the West's playoff bubble teams like Portland and Golden State.

Didn't Detroit simply make the deal to reduce the duration of their salary obligations?

I don’t like this deal for Detroit really. Basically they are saying Billups is overvalued.

Detroit is saving 28 million in obligations on this deal.

AI sucked. Denver just got tougher.

Suns Re-ignited.

Wow, good move for both teams.

A little worried now that we find out that Alando is having knee surgery…I think we need to trade to shore up our 2 position, b/c Raja looks old and Barbo looks inconsistent.

Deeetrooiiiitttt

just extended Rip 3 yrs for $34 million. I’m not sure I get this deal for detroit. were they clearing money to sign Rip? opening up more playing time for Amir? I would have asked for a first rounder if I were them…
Denver could be pretty tough…

Irony

Dave Berri, author of Wages of Wins, is the guy who “exposed” Allen Iverson as really only being an above average player at his best (at least if you believe in Berri’s metric). Berri was also one of the few who said that the Sixers would be better after AI left, because AI was a horrible drag on their shooting and TO numbers, and he was half-correct (right answer, wrong reason).

Dave Berri is also a die hard Pistons fan who is always talking about how underrated and important Billups is.

Ha ha.

Adrian says this is making way for Lebron James

No way.

I say Olympiakos gets James in 2010.

Suns Re-ignited.

Better Denver

Billups is probably a better fit for Denver. Overall, though, I’d rather take AI.

I disagree with “clutch” in that I think its more marketing than actual. Nothing to back it up, other than 5 consecutive failures in the semifinals.

Mmmmm ... Guinness
