The Wit & Wisdom of Charles Barkley
Anyone hear about Sir Chuck's hilarious quote regarding the Shaq for Matrix & Marcus trade?
For those who didn't, I give you this...
"He has to play well for Phoenix to get past San Antonio, Utah and the Lakers. He can't just be there. As you get older, it doesn't work. That's why they came up with Viagra."
- Charles Barkley, TNT analyst and Suns Ring of Honor member, on Phoenix's acquisition of Shaquille O'Neal
Effin hilarious!!! And one more reason Sir Charles will always be "da Man" in my book!!!
Too bad he couldn't bring our Suns an NBA Championship...

Barkley the court jester
I never liked Chuck, anyway. He says we will never win because we don't play any defense. I never saw him play any. And can you believe he has the nerve to call Shaq fat?
He's the Deion Sanders of basketball.
Put a cork in it, Charles.

Barkley guarded bigger forwards well in his prime
For his height, Sir Charles played very smart while maintaining the bruising, physical style of play that he brought with him each time he got on the court.
Charles Barkley more than backed up his words, and most of the time, he's right. He's honest and doesn't give a rat's ass what the common view amongst the mainstream media is. That's one of the things I like about the guy.
You do make an outstanding point about him having the nerve to call Shaq fat when he earned nicknames like "The Round Mound of Rebound" and "Boy Gorge."

I love Charles
I also think that Charles tends to be right more often then not. He was the one 3 years ago that said that Amare needed to get better on D and rebounding and he was right.
He said that the Suns couldn't win the ring without getting bigger and according just about everyone here except me and the Suns organization he was right about that too.
He also said on the radio today that its one thing for your mind to want to play hard but there's a point where your aging body just can't do it. Coming from Charles that means a lot more then coming from say...me.

I hear ya
I am just saying that these days I look forward to watching him on TNT or listening to him on the radio like today when he was on Jim Rome. For whatever reason, his crap doesn't bother me.

what the mediots failed to tell everyone...
But reporting that wouldn't have elicited as much readership as making the national public mad at Chuck.

rebound34
And on barkley as a player, nothing to argue about, he was awesome, if you think of potential and will, I think barkley has a tremendous drive, plus, he fulfilled 110% of his potential, not something you can say for most nba players, at least not to the barkley extreme, if we had someone like barkley now instead of marion or diaw, OMG
I forget, on the top 50 nba players of all time, Barley was on that list if I recall, ...yep...

Charles is Worth the Price of Admission
Like Cotton used to say, "Sometimes you just have to let Charles be Charles."
Last year, he ate crow for all of the Golden State fans and we all appreciated watching that. He's entertaining and does add basketball insight. He also will often say, "It's just my opinion" which, translated, means, "I know a thing or two about basketball. I may not always be right, but I'm right more often than I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, prove me wrong, but if you're just going to whine get out of my face."
There's just not enough airtime and too many PC types to allow him to say that.
I saw his quote. It was hilarious. He's right. We're all wondering whether Shaq needs som Basketball Viagra.
