All-Star Weekend Open Thread
Since we have some Suns players involved in the All-Star festivities this weekend, I thought it might be a good idea to create an open discussion thread. Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire will take part in both the All-Star Saturday Night events as well as the game itself on Sunday. Nash will go up against his good friend Dirk Nowitzki (last-minute replacement for Kobe Bryant), Daniel Gibson, Richard Hamilton, Peja Stojakovic, and last year's winner Jason Kapono in the three-point shooting contest. Amare will join Cappie Pondexter and Eddie Johnson in the Shooting Stars event. Both Nash and Amare are reserves in the All-Star game on Sunday.
Here are our two All-Stars teaming up in the 2005 Dunk contest:

Then again....
"I thought I was already up there," Stoudemire said.
Also interesting in that article is that it mentions something about the Suns going to a triangle offense. I'm not sure if that means literally that's what they're planning, or if it was just some reporter kidding around in reference to Shaq's Laker days. Probably the latter, but read for yourself:

I love it
"No comment," Nowitzki said.
Too funny.

the dunk competition
I like the shooting stars, I missed the suns turn though, have to rewatch it online
Nash for being such a great game 3 pt shooter really shot poorly in the competition, makes me wonder if after all the mvp attention if he threw it a little bit. Think about it, (it's unlikely..but for fun, go with this idea) Nash wants one thing more than anything...to win a title. I think Nash (last yr in particular, and to some extent still) has become a target.
Here's the thought, if Nash wins this contest, and the suns get into the playoffs, I think it's an easy jump to make that he'd be guarded tighter than if he bows out like he did...
Alright, Nash just blew it, scratch above,
Kapono was a total stud!
The skills challenge, they need to add some fun stuff to make it better,
My idea...
Forget the side to side avoiding the cardboard players thing, instead, let's focus on fun.
a.I say we have them run twice around the court while dribbling 2 basketballs, at full speed
b.Then instead of 2 passing things, maybe 5 all in a row but with a player in a dunk tank that will get dunked if all 5 passes are made on the first attempt..
c. (back to work...)

forgot
Plus Green's birthday cake dunk was cool.
That was possibly the best dunk contest I've ever seen.

Hmm...
Nash looked pretty embarrassed after his three-point debacle. I doubt he threw it. I think it's just that he didn't take it particularly all that seriously, plus (according to AZ Republic) he didn't really practice for it either.
The dunk contest was great! Very happy Dwight Howard got it. He totally got robbed on that sticker dunk last year. Great to see him come back strong and take some revenge. That Superman dunk was amazing!

More on Dwight Howard's big night
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/allstar2008/news/story?id=3249672
About midway down the page, there's a photo of Howard hugging the trophy he won for the dunk contest. Look at how happy he is. It may as well have been the Larry O'Brien trophy.
Also, Henry Abbott has a piece on TrueHoop about Howard and his preparation for the contest:

Pretty clear that he took this thing very seriously, and really really wanted to win (and was really disappointed he didn't get a better chance last year). That's pretty cool with so many others treating the events as "obligations" that the league forces them to do (e.g., Nash, although I can certainly see his side of the argument too).

Most notable thing about the ASG
Is it that difficult to make a jersey with only one color and for the colors of the two teams to be different enough that they can easily be distinguished at a glace?
