All hail the "Iron Man" of the NBA
When you think of "Iron Men," you think of Cal Ripken, Lou Gehrig, and Brett Favre. Well in the NBA the current "Iron Man" is Bruce Bowen, who last night somehow played his 500th consecutive game.
I'm sure if he wasn't a San Antonio Snore, and Stern wasn't the commish, that streak would have ended a long time ago.
Anyways here is that jackass from last night's game kicking CP3.

Let's see...
And btw, playing in 500 straight NBA games is an absolutely incredible achievement.

Seriously, defend this, and if you can make up some story, I have to say, go ahead, this web site could always use more comedy, but this stuff isn't funny, it's stupid, there's a reason coaches and players all over the nba are happy this is finally happening
And you might bring up the Raja Bell Kobe thing, hey, no defense, that was dirty and he got his suspension, but he was kicked in the balls by kobe a play before

But look at this one closely, it's obviously Szczerbiak's fault, he shouldn't been there, that jump and kick, that's natural, I see nba players do that all the time (lol),

And I know some spur fans might be thinking we'd be acting differently if he was on our Suns team. I have to say that's bullshit. I actually didn't watch the suns for a few years here and there over the last 20 for good reasons. The drug scandol, thug Marbury getting pulled over by my home going over 100 and running into a wall with his $200,000 bentley. Yeah, that's class. Oh wait, he's on my team, I like him anyways...not. Yes, some Suns fans would like having Bowen on our team, but many wouldn't.
And as for many calling him one of the best defenders, yes, many call him that and believe that he is that, but many more feel differently..

Link to Simmons article
I can't find it, but there was also a story about Bowen at the 2007 all star game, (I think it was 2007, wish I could find the link), to sum it up. Players were gambling and having fun in different groups in Vegas, Bowen was alone. No one wanted to be near him (This was a quote from a few nba players, not bloggers, this should carry some weight yes? lol...your killing me with defending him, I can't stop laughing, I'm going to have to go to the hospital to get help to stop laughing...seriously)
No one, most other nba players feel the same, I'll look for link about this, Seriously, its like the family that defends the one stupid person they have in the family, the guy who does drugs, or robs stores, or worse, but because he's family they blindly defend him, but I think that's the minority...clearly by how Avery Johnson was laughing at being asked about Bowen finally getting suspended. But, I'm sure A.Johnson is wrong, it's not like he has the view or experience you do (lol, )

Its no wonder
This play occured when Horry had the ball stripped by Stucky (I think) near the three point line and Stucky was headed for the other end for an uncontested layup. So Horry being Horry grabbed his jersey to prevent the score.
The ref's called a clear path violation because, it was a clear path violation.
The Spurs announcers however seemed to argue that it wasn't a clear path violation because clearly the foul occured in the back court and the rules state that if the foul is in the back court then its not a clear path violation. They showed the replay showing that it was in the back court.
The problem of course is they were totally wrong about the rule:

I'll admit it
I like dirty players. Dirty players win. I want them all on my team.
I'm sorry the NBA officiates like panty-waisted teenage girls and is too afraid to discipline players on the court, but that's how it is.
I'm also tired of seeing my team get pushed around by lesser talents. I'm tired of Kwames and Horrys and Bowens and Fortsons.
I like Raja and I loved Kurt Thomas. They were rated by NBA players as dirty along with Bowen. Kurt was in the top 10, but Raja only got an honorable mention. Bowen was right up there with Danny Fortson, who was best known for knocking Zarko Cabarkapa into the next season when he was a suns player.
When Shaq knocks other players to the floor, all I think about is Joe Johnson three years ago and I feel no remorse. I feel good he's on my team. I hope he has a chance to knock your players around a little more.
Bowen is a dirty as your riverwalk. Admit it.

Look...
There are guys who are bullys like the Chuckster, Bill Laimbeer & Shaq who want to make it clear that you're not gonna mess with them. If you come near them, they will knock you down. If you get past them and make a play, they won't let you do it again. If you mess with them, then they will hit you right in your mouth. They might be resented to an extent, especially Laimbeer, but they have earned the respect of their peers.
Then there's Bruce Bowen, who always resorts to sticking his feet under opposing players ankles, kicks guys when they're down or on their way down, low blows people, karate kicks guys, etc. You can't say that Bowen is a guy who is defending himself and his teammates, and you won't hear anyone say he is a bully either. He is a simply a punk. He's the guy who will start stuff with others, pull some under the radar crap that goes against the unwritten code of "Man Law." Bill Simmons explains Bruce Bowen much better than I ever could in this article from last year, enjoy.

Agreed
There's a difference between physical defense and an attempt to injure someone when they can't see you from behind or underneath them.
