Amare's pads?

I noticed that since the Shaq trade, when Amare takes his jersey off hes wearing what appears to be some sort of football/lacrosse mixture of padding under there?   I have never seen basketball players wear pads before, except for those pillows Patrick Ewing used to tie around his knees.  Anyone out there know how long basketball players have been wearing upper body/torso pads?  Who else wears them other than Amare.  I believe Shaq wears them too.

I don't think they are pads
It's just a tight tank top shirt LOL....
There's this brand called "Under Armour". They design this type of shirts that are worn under uniforms. I don't think it helps, it doesn't improve your game or protects you from getting hit. It's just a new sport trend. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.... I think it also helps to relieve heat when sweating...

But I think the one he wears is Nike (Dri-FIT Pro)

Inquiring minds STILL want to know!

Actually...
It's a shirt with weights in it...somehow.  Amare just likes to play with it on to show off.  Or... it might just be comfortable? I'm sure having a jersey stick to your sweaty skin like that doesn't feel too good?

It's a bulletproof vest
Amare doesn't play games.  He only plays the game.

I always thought it was a brace
For like back support or something.

I assumed
it actually was what it looked like. Pads around his mid section. I am thinking he take a lot of elbows and forarms to the ribs area the padding makes him more comfortable.

Clearly, it hasn't impacted his game.

Along these lins though, I noticed that Amare rips his jersey off right after the game ends. I have seen him do this consistently now but I honestly can't say for how long he's been doing this. For some reason my guess is that its been a few months but maybe he's always done it and now I just noticed...
