Steve Nash's life after basketball
In case you missed it, there's a really nice article from the Arizona Republic's Paul Coro today about Steve Nash and his plans for life after basketball. Turns out, he wants to make movies. Never would have guessed, but it does seem like something he would be good at. I also didn't realize just how much of the behind the camera work he did on that famous Training Day commercial. It sounds like it was entirely his baby, from production, to pitching it to Nike, and also hiring the director. I hadn't thought of it before, but if Nash is half as creative in the cinema as he is on a basketball court, then the NBA's loss will certainly be Hollywood's gain when the time comes.
In other Nash-related news, remember a few weeks back when it seemed like something was very wrong with his game? Theories around here were that he might have an undisclosed injury, might be tired, might be finally succumbing to Father Time, or might just be sneaking in some mid-season rest. Well, apparently we have our answer now: He was tired, according to a Jack McCallum article on SI.com.
"My routine is almost always the same. It's what I'm comfortable with," said Nash, who typically sits out the final two minutes of the first and third quarters and the first four of the second and fourth. "There's going to be a point in the season when you're tired anyway. Everyone gets like that. But you overcome that and bounce back and feel better again. I'm at that point now where I'm just starting to bounce back. I had a tired three weeks but now I'm back.
He also had a few words for those who are predicting his decline:
"I know Baron gets tired because we talk about it," he said, referring to Warriors point guard Baron Davis, who averages 39.2 minutes. "It's not like I'm the only one going through it or the only one who's going to break down. And I'm not going to break down."
That's good to know.

Good stuff
I had a pang of fear thinking about the lakers this afternoon. I wish they would just go away. They are always always around, under our feet or in our way.
I bugs me that Farmar and Vujicicic shoot so well from outside. And Luke Walton is a fair match for Diaw.
If we or any team is going to have a shot of getting past their big-ass line-up, it might have to be in the first round before Bynum gets in sync. Best chance to catch him cold and the team somewhat out of sync.
I know David Stern is clearing a path for a Lakers-Celtics finals. He probably personally negotiated the Gasol trade and the Cassell buyout and convinced Pj Brown to come out of retirement.
The Spurs are screwed b/c the league has complete discretion about how they want to call Bowen and the Spurs other grapplers and floppers. The Spurs dependence on no-calls and calls will make them a non-factor if they get paired up with the lakers.
Okay, that was my afternoon moment of paranoia and conspiratorial theorization.
I wish we had one more regular season game with the lakers. I guess we did okay in the last one, all things considered.

IF David Stern can really manipulate...
Oh man
You can't tell me that it wouldn't be sweet.

I always figured
I don't think I would have guessed Film Maker but then again I am not really sure what I would have guessed. Maybe I could have seen him in a Bono like role traveling the world curing disease and famine or maybe rolling with Al Gore testifying about global warming in front of Congress.
This was a totally cool video and if its any indication of his talent and vision for film then I am looking forward to his post-ball life as the next David Lynch or Cohen brother.
Steve Nash, two time MVP and Academy Award winner!
Yep
[baseless speculation]
I wonder if maybe knowing he has a very promising future after basketball might be subconsciously playing a part in his "not being as sharp" this season? Last season, and all the ones prior, it seemed like it would just kill him if he had to retire without winning a ring. But now that he knows he has a chance to make a mark somewhere else, maybe it's not the end all/be all it used to be?
[/end baseless speculation]
Also,
I don't believe him
Shaqadelic
not that he was after ecognition,
Shaqadelic
Steve needs a nickname.
Seriously though.. there are a bunch of NBA players who are thinking about film making as a post NBA career: Reggie Miller, Elton Brand, and of course, Baron Davis all have production companies. Baron Davis, who has already produced a movie, was a classmate of Kate Hudsons at the Crossroads school in Santa Monica.
It's a shame he's into the Indy stuff... I'd really like to see Steve Nash and Jason Statham together in an action movie: "Transporter 4: Fast Break."

Still
I would love to have him on our team as long as long as you still have a real PG as well. Especially at this point in his career when he seems to be less about AI and more about winning then he was when he was younger.
And btw - please do not pull the Thug card. That really pisses me off.

Nah, he's more matrue now
But he's still a $20MM chucker. Sure he's small and fiery, played through tons of injuries, been to the finals, watch him all you want, but I wouldn't trade for him.
AI is a fan favorite, that's all.
Before the Sixers got to the finals, I used to call AI the Swedish Meatball, because he was such a knucklehead. But ever since then, I hold him in the highest esteem because he's the only player in the league with more heart than Steve Nash. And no-one else is close to those two.
But he is a chucker, and vastly overrated as a scorer, that's for sure. Moreover, he doesn't get the fact that if his personal pts/shot is lower than his teams, then he's an offensive detriment. He's not alone, btw. Kobe doesn't get it either.
