All I want...
is coach D to learn to adapt and develop our talent. The time’s of “we’re a contender and have no time to develop players” are over. That’s not to say that this team is lottery bound, but Coach D must prepare for this team’s next chapter, and to do so we must develop guys like DJ, Tucker and whatever rookie we should get.
"Troops in desperate straights know no fear. Where there is no escape, they stand firm; When they have entered deep, they persist; When they see no hope, they fight." Sun Tzu The Art of War
yes he could develop the talent more,
but it was clearly the sarver $$$ moves that hurt us the most. I hope we keep him. If Sarver wasn’t so $$$ tight, we’d still have all these draft picks, and joe johnson and we wouldn’t be talking about this
Sarver spent the money
He may not have spent it wisely, but he spent it. He cannot be called a tightwad, perhaps he made bad decisions, but he was not pulling a Bidwell on us.
Mmmmm ... Guinness
too late I think
during the draft and joe johnson / k thomas stuff, I disagree…..recently..with the billion dollar shaq contract, it’s clear he went ahead and spent the money….but…shaq brings in money like jordan does in my opinion. His miami heat jersey sold more than any other jersey in history (I think I read)...not that big of a gamble really,

and the PTI audio,
also, very interesting to hear P.Jackson say he was surprised and disappointed in the way the spurs used hack-a-shaq, that even when he used it, it was never off the ball like the spurs did, it was ugly basketball and bad for the fans. The fans come first, not the spurs and their ability to twist poor rules to their advantage.

Joe Johnson
That’s revisionist history.
In the 2004 off-season, before JJ had proven his worth, the Suns were at 45M and he was at 50M. They couldn’t agree and he had a break-out year. Sarver offered him the max, but he wanted to be The Man on another team.
On KT, that’s harder to defend. Was KT worth $16M a year? 8 plus the luxury tax. I don’t think so. I would’ve liked to have seen him stay, but I think that Skinner for $1M a year was a better deal. That is debatable.
How much money did Sarver make off the proceeds from the new Shaq Suns’ jerseys? What percentage does he get out of an $80 jersey? That’s a lot of jerseys to get to $20M.
Mmmmm ... Guinness
your right on Joe...
I wish we still had him though….
On KT, clearly he wasn’t worth that much….but….to keep him away from the spurs….maybe, in hindsight, obviously
On shaq jerseys…don’t they sell shaq rabbits also?
What was your vote on the coach….? if you don’t mind saying (D’antoni of course, not the other 5 coaches being fired..etc)

KT
Maybe letting KT go was OK, but with the knowledge that there was a good chance the Spurs would get their hands on him. Was that worth the risk? Also, the draft choice scenario was obscene.
April 29, 2008 Total Eclipse of the Sun. Is the sky falling?
KT
I agree. I don’t think (never thought) that keeping KT was worth $16m and that Skinner at $1m was about 75% the player of KT so when you run the numbers its a no brainer.
But what does KILL me is that we PAID to get rid of an expiring contract instead of holding him and trading him mid-season and getting something back. Perhaps that’s not how the salary cap/lux cap works.

I agree with much of it
I'm gonna send all ya all packin!
Ya D’Antoni haterz!!!! /shakes fist!
Where doubting Thomases believe
uh dude?
Perhaps counting isn’t part of the study program either….only 25% want him gone. That’s a lot less then the 75% that want him to stay. That’s an indication that the fans (dumb as they) are agree with you.

The middle 60% don't count
they fencesitters. One strong blow and you could knock them over on either side.
I was hatin those 53 voters to my 31 boosters.
I’m gonna knock yerz blocks off!
Wondering what the skip-2-my-loo to do next with my empty summer
Consistency
I think there is something to be said for keeping a coach around.
If I really thought I could bag Jessica Simpson, I might leave my wife. However, my current disfigurement, I could really do a lot worse.
If he doesn’t want to take the advice of a 5-time champ and he’s too bull-headed for that, then good riddance. However, building a program does have some merit, doesn’t it?
It does get back to stubbornnes, though. If he doesn’t want to change, he won’t and he should go. Good leaders, though, know when to change and will do it.
Can he? Persons can change, get better, progress and move on. He did show that he’s not married to the frenetic pace of 2004-2005. So, he’s shown the abiliy to adapt and overcome.
Will he?
On TNT tonight, David Aldridge said it was D’Antoni’s view that Kerr was trying to micromanage the team (almost Cuban-esque), and that was the big burr in Mike’s butt. He needs to be given freedom, but he also needs to accept criticism.
How big is his ego? How big is Kerr’s? Are we going to end up with Kerr on the sideline if Coach D goes?

Kerr v D
I have to say I have been very impressed with Kerr so far. Big Trade not withstanding…(yes, that doesn’t make any sense)
But anyway – Kerr has shown some great leadership publically. For example – after the lose in game 1 Shaq was all “floppers this and floppers that” and it was Kerr that quickly said “hell no – we need to play better”. I like his attitude and general philosphy for how the team should act and think. That starts at the top.
Under Coach D it was too easy to make excuses and hide the fact that there were problems that needed to be addressed. Again, I present exhibit A. Mr. “I was snoookered after game 1 and didn’t think we needed to change anything” and he didn’t. And he didn’t after game 2 either. They came into game 3 convinced that they just needed to show up on the home court and a win would follow.
It wasn’t until the series was over (0-3) that he finally made some changes. That’s all a direct result of his stubbornness and excuse making – something I haven’t seen from Kerr.
