Sarver interview

Let us know what he says. My company blocks streaming audio or video.

not a bad listen

I was working at the same time, it sounded like until the spurs loss they thought D’Antoni was going to be around (which I think we all thought). He said he thought D’Antoni lost the team a little, probably referring to Amare, can’t think of anyone else that said negatives off the top of my head.

It was like 20 minutes from the show, listen to it at home, not too much else though to be learned by listening to it.

Cliff Notes:

Sick of losing to the Spurs and bummed about winning only one playoff game
Wanted D’Antoni to come back
Wasn’t going to pay him or anyone not to work
Prefers to go to playoff games for Mother’s Day instead of being home
Hopes the draft pick this year and next will yield rotation players
Doesn’t think he’s cheap, acknowledges that maybe spent unwisely, but not cheap
Really wants to win, thinks Kerr will put the pieces together to get it done

admirable restraint

Yeah, I thought he showed admirable restraint on the “cheap” issue. You can argue about how he’s spent the team’s money, as he acknowledges, but I don’t think you can argue that he’s been unwilling to spend (just may not willing to spend on the things that fans wish he would spend on).

Spending

It was an interesting point that the Suns are one of only 8 teams paying the lux tax. The other stat they like to through around is that Sarver has signed more salary then any other owner in this few years w/ the Suns and that the payroll went from $30m to $70m.

That one has a ring of spin and number games to me. But I have never thought they were cheap, just dumb about things like PAYING the Sonics to take KT and paying the Blazers to take JJ.
