Suns "What if" moments

Bill Simmons recent article convinced me that no other sports organziation has more "what if" moments then the Phoenix Suns.....

To prove the point and cement our place as fans of a (so far) doomed franchise let's list as many as we can come up with. I'll get the ball rolling:

1. Coin flip

2. Connie Hawkins  career shortened by the pre-Stern NBA

3. The ref's had followed the rules and called the time out violation on the Celtics' Paul Silas at the end of game 5  in Boston in 1976

What if:

JC hadn’t landed the league’s first free agent, Tom Chambers.

The Suns hadn’t pulled the trigger on the KJ trade.

Barkley hadn’t wanted out of Philly.

Cuban was so short-sighted about Nash’s health.

Injuries

What about Ced’s injury in the Finals. Chuckster thinks that would’ve been a huge plus (and he’s right).

Richard Dumas wasn’t a coke-fiend.

Sweet D didn’t get addicted to painkillers.

KJ hadn’t shortened his career by repeatedly running into brick walls while Majerle camped out at the three-point and refused to drive (even though he was a good penetrator in his early years).

Oliver Miller laid off the donuts. Click here for his striking similarities to Doris.

What if....

Cotton Fitzsimmons hadn’t laft after only two seasons
the Suns hadn’t drafted William Bedford
the Suns had drafted Karl Malone
the Suns hadn’t traded Paul Silas for Charlie Scott
Penny Hardaway hadn’t hurt his knee
Antonio McDyess had stayed
Barkley wanted a championship as much as MJ did
JJ had stayed
The Suns had drafted Iguodala
Amare and Boris stayed on the bench
Raja had gotten to Horry in that game and rearranged Cheap Shot’s face
The Suns hadn’t blown a 10 pt 4th quarter lead in seattle in 1979.
Quentin Richardson’s back hadn’t gone out.
Amare did not need microfracture
The 04-05 team stayed intact for 5 years

What if Erickson hadn’t gotten hurt in the 76 Finals.
Perry hadn’t gotten hurt down the stretch in 78 when Portland was vulnerable.
If Gar Heard had made that shot at the end of Game 6 in the 79 WCF to put us in the Fianls.
If Truck Robinson hadn’t gotten mysteriously sick after we traded for him in ‘79.
If we hadn’t blown the Kings series in ‘81.
If Magic hadn’t made the hook at the end of Game 6 in ‘84.

Gar Heard was three years early.
