Let's Start a Pool on How Long it Takes Kerr to Hire Johnson

Gambo (on KTAR) is reporting that Coach D is going to New York.

How long will it take for Kerr to reunite with another hard-headed SA Spur guard?

Actually, Gambo is saying it is a "hunch" he's going to NY, but that he's gone either way.  I jumped the gun on calling it a "report."

Oh really?

Actually, Gambo is saying it is a “hunch” he’s going to NY, but that he’s gone either way. I jumped the gun on calling it a “report.”

Normally I always wait for Coro before truly believing one of these "reports", but since KTAR has had such a good track record lately, I went ahead and commented on it in the other thread…. Ok, you got me. :)

Gambo also said he thinks there is no way they’ll hire Johnson or Van Grumpy and that they will look elsewhere for someone with a Spurs connection. Are there any assistants (other than Westfall) for S.A. that might be good for Phx??

He's wrong about that

Who else is it going to be?

I’ll agree with him when it suits my yellow bloggerism. I’m already pot-committed to Johnson.

If I’m wrong, add it to the list. Johnson just makes too much sense:

We don’t want a re-tread.
An assistant isn’t going to step in.
We need a proven coach, as the Suns have a two-year window are stuck with these players for two years.

Suns can't afford

An assistant. They need an experienced coach, as you say. For some reason, there have been reports that Kerr doesn’t want Avery. Does anyone know why??
If it’s not AJ, than who is left?

Let's not forget

that D’Antoni was a NOBODY before he came to Phx.

There have got to be lots of guys just waiting for their chance. Their one shot. One moment. One opportunity. There’s probably vomit on his sweater already…

Time to call Barkley

We need to get Doug Collins and then have the Chuckster put together a group to buy the team. Then we will have a general manager who knows it all, a coach who knows it all and an owner who knows it all. All who were broadcasters and Monday morning quarterbacks.

I am not sure about Collins but I know that Kerr and Barkley have never even managed a Quickstop so they are both eminently qualified run a NBA franchise.

God, help us.

Let's be real

Avery is not in the picture. The Republic, ESPN and SI have all reported this by now. Kerr isn’t going anywhere as the GM, and I pray to God Collins doesn’t get the job. When has he ever done a good job coaching? Why can’t he stick anywhere more than 3 years?
I’m very, very interested in Silas. A former Sun, very respected Coach. That, or we hope Saunders or Eddie Jordan gets fired

Wrong Eddie

Bluntman (one of my sources) is desperately hoping that Eddie Johnson gets the job. He sounds so smart on TV.

About new coaches...

Let us not forget that Paul Westphal led the Suns to the Finals as a rookie coach. True, Cotton had been grooming him for years, and that run was largely spurred (err…sorry) by the Chuckster’s “I’ll show them” post-trade motivation, but it’s not inconceivable that a 1st-time head coach could come in and have success. I don’t have anyone in particular in mind, I’m just sayin’.

Nash, Shaq, Hill, and probably Bell are not going to get better over the summer, but the rest of the roster should (should!) come back from the summer stuffed with croissants improved in some areas of their respective games.

Why not Westy?

He’s sitting next the empty chair where Avery used to sulk right?

Precisely what's needed

Going from lax practices to no practices?
