Flip Saunders is fired!! There’s our new coach!!

Saunders?

Do you really want that guy? I kind of think he was handed a good team in Detroit, and his performance in Minnesota was spotty at best. The one year he did something, he had a good combination of desperate players (Cassell, Sprewell, Garnett) but couldn’t make it last. If he can’t get through to Rasheed, what makes you think he can get through to Amare?

Not sold on Saunders, But

Don’t compare Sheed to Amare. Sheed’s a headcase on a whole other level who might have more talent but definitely has less discipline than Stoudemire.

more than a head case

Did you ever hear my favorite ‘Sheed story? The Pistons were on a flight from Denver, and encountered turbulence. The plane lost a few thousand feet at one point, and luggage was everywhere. The pplayers were terrified, and some were saying their prayers. Rasheed Wallace? He was sitting in his seat, throwin g up his hands and shouting, “Wheeeee!” like he was on a roller coaster. Several players and writers were looking at him like, “Who IS this guy?”.

Smart move

One might ask why Kerr is bothering to interview guys like Shaw, Turner, Budenholzer and Corbin if he really wants someone with head coaching experience. But think about it – here he gets the chance to learn more about the Suns from the perspective of the coaching staff’s of 4 top WC teams.

If he’s interviewing these guys about what they would do to “fix” the Suns – don’t you think Kerr is going to hear some of what Popovich, Phil Jax, Sloan and Adelman are thinking about the Suns strengths and weaknesses?

Smart way to get some solid insight into your team if you ask me.

On the job experience

Not only that, but if you are looking for a job and you haven’t gone on many interviews, you go to every one, even if the possibilities are dubious. You do thiis so you can improve your interview skills. In the same way, Kerr as a new GM with no previous executive experience would do well to get interviewing experience from the other side of the table.

Two San Antonio’s references, and its my humble opinion, that Kerr is looking for a “yes” man.
