Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Is everyone on vacation? Draft coming up.

Iam not going to try and repeat all of the draft recaps we have seen.  There are a lot of angles to this draft, both for the league as a whole, and the Suns in particular.

Where is everyone?  Are you all still in letdown mode?  It is like a funeral.  Nobody posting except PStan, ZF, and MikeL, maybe a few commenting.  I can go a day without seeing new posts or comments.  I am not terribly disappointed in the season's ending.  The bottom line, our multimillionaires didn't deserve it.  Much like the Dbacks don't deserve to be in first place.

The roundballers simply got caught up in three main issues:  The coaching/GM rift, the big trade, and the resulting lack of identity, which can make any team look like pussycats (See Lakers performance vs. Detroit a few years back, when Shaq and the pouiting Kobe got shellacked by the no-name Pistons).

The coaching/GM problem has been addressed.  The trade, while not initially successfull, needs a whole season to be judged.  The identity part?  It is being forged right now.

As we see the draftees being picked apart, I feel confident that our braintrust will get a valuable rotation player for the #15, and maybe an eventual starter.  I feel that we should keep Barbs and Boris for a year in Porter's system unless someone blows our doors off with an offer of an all-star like Memphis did with Gasol.

The one thing I would like to do is get a later pick (16-21).  Wouldn't it be good to get Lopez or Green AND Nick Batum or Koufos?

Hey Hawk

Well , I’ve been really busy. I hope I was on vacation. I’ve not been posting about the draft because i’m a complete ignorant when it comes down to that subject. It’s kind of hard to follow the prospects from down here.
Just remember…”Don’t trade LB”
LOL

same answer...

it seems I have always to follow panama sun: I don’t write about the draft because I don’t know any of them! I don’t even know N. Batum (except is name), because I didn’t see him playing here… Indeed, it’s even the first time I’m following the draft process, it’s very interesting and I learn a lot by reading your posts here à BSotS.
Anyway, I agree with both of you about the next season and the “don’t trade LB/BD except if someone blows our door”!
Next year, at this time of the year (that is, after the Suns wonb their championship?) I’ll perhaps post more about the draft, but right now, I’ve nothing to say! Just waiting the draft day…

I'm still in mourning

and the thought of trading away some of the last remnants of SSOL have gotten me even more depressed. Barbosa for Martell/13? Meh. The 13 is nice, but I’m not too high on Webster. He seems like a high upside guy, but if we’re in win now mode, why trade for a player who has yet to put it together? Boris for Ford/17 is a lot more palatable, simply because Ford is proven and Boris only shows up once a month, but still, after watching our Frenchman perform the way he did in the playoffs….I’m hesitant to move him. And what happens when, with our luck, Ford inevitably has a bad fall and ends up getting really, really hurt?

After reading Part I and II of this article(SEA has it.

Frack.

I'm here!!!

I’ve been in and out like most people here. Expect me to be on during or after the draft.

I still think a trade will be going down this off season. I could live without either aforemention trade going down, but I wouldnt feel too bad about the LB:Martell/13 trade though. We’ll see, we shall see.

Long Time

its an awful long time between a 1st round dismissal and the draft…still pondering the season that was and not yet excited about the season to come

I wonder how Bobcats fans do it every year?

And...

...in addition to we regulars posting, I’ve seen some new names in the comments. I think there’s a lot of excitement about the draft for Suns fans. In addition to having a decent 1st round pick, the possibility of trading up is pretty tantalizing. I also think (oddly) that the naming of Dan Majerle to the coaching staff is going to generate a lot of excitement for fans.

Any perceived lack of participation around these parts probably has a lot to do with ignorance of draft prospects (Guilty! That’s why God invented Ridiculous Upside.), lack of activity beyond the draft, and a whole lotta question marks regarding Terry Porter and the mindset of the 2008-9 Phoenix Suns. Unless you’re in the speculating biz, there’s not a lot to react to, as opposed to the topsy-turvy regular season we just went through and the disappointing playoff “run.”

I’m sure once the draft and/or offseason trades start happening and Summer League kicks off, activity ‘round these parts will pick up once again.

Dan Majerle
I also think (oddly) that the naming of Dan Majerle to the coaching staff is going to generate a lot of excitement for fans.

Oddly enough, activity on thedirty.com has not increased.

I’ve been depressed by the reality that we have had about EIGHT legit chances at a title since the last time Boston was in the finals. And yet here they are celebrating No. 17, while we’re left with not only a goose egg, but a closed window.
We NEED a good day Thursday.

draft coming up

Chris Douglas Roberts will fall in our lap, and were not gonna pick him….curses…since Im commenting in a while, I think Ben Gordon would look great in purple and orange along with Pietrus, Ariza, Haslem, Warrick to name a few. Is there really a point in gambling on the draft this far committed with this team. Time to wave bye bye to Leandro, he had a chance to do some serious scoring as the anchor of our relay when Shawn left, and he dropped the baton. If we are going to fulfill this vision of playing two styles, we need that upper middle-sized athlete to play the 4 and replace Shaq when he is in foul mode all day. Nash is throwing some celebrity pro basketball and pro soccer charity soccer game in the heart of the nyc, and Shaq, btdubs, is a bad bad man. Which brings me to my next point, how much alcohol does it take to get Shaq drunk? And while were on the subject of Shaq, how big do you think his toilet is? Did the suns locker room have to install like a new ventilation system when he came to town. Think about how full of shit this guy is, and how much we love him anyway because hes one of us. Hellz yeah. That is what Kobe gets for that chokefest.
