Ridiculous Upside Blogger Crew Hates the Lopez Pick (Haters.)
RU's impressive roster of livebloggers absolutely eviscerated Steve Kerr for picking Robin Lopez (as opposed to Mario Chalmers) at #15 last night. It's all at the 8:57(PST) mark of their (insanely long) liveblog.
Methinks they doth protest too much, but they do have a point about that nagging need at point guard. But Chalmers? Meh.

Dragic much???
I’ve heard that Dragic was ranked second only to Augustin among pg’s but the Suns front office. It seems obvious that Chalmers wasnt even on their radar. So just why is Dragic so much better (and he does sound pretty good) and why wasnt Chalmers considered?

Where was Chalmers eventually picked?
4th in the Second round.. that’s right.
The Spurs, who selected a guard in the 1st round passed on him, as did the Celtics. He was eventually selected by Minnesota, and their evil genius GM Kevin McHale.
I don’t think we’re going to regret this non-pick.

We were not the only ones
Who passed on him, like Pliny says. We needed a Center with defensive skills and a back up point guard. We got both. No regrets from my end.

Chalmers is a tweener
and not even a PG.
Everyone THINKS they can be a PG.

live bloggers
What is it about those live bloggers? I was on ours a little yesterday, and got off because of the negativity. I like the concept of live blogging, but it seems to be a contest on who can make the most outrageous statement. Since it goes so fast, there’s not a lot of thinking involved.
Now during a game? I enjoy that, because there’s action to comment on. Making fun of someone’s hair or last name is in bad taste.

good points,
i tend to steer away from live blogging now also because of that very thing, guess it’s a simple thing
either most of these great comments take a little time and the live blogging is rushed in general, or the live blogging brings about a lot of junk people on there simply to be on, people that don’t truly care about basketball, some of those spur fans that were on were just horrible, funny thing, go to a spurs game in s.a. and you’d be impressed by their manners, I was there dressed in suns gear as well as a few hundred others and felt no negativity from anyone….
if I was in dallas wearing a suns shirt at a game, I’d likely get in a few word fights or more, same with many places….in phoenix, if I went to a game wearing a spurs uniform, many wouldn’t notice because they’d be texting their friends or on their phones, ok…many is an overstatement, but definitely some..
how much is definitely some….lets calculate using the formula
scottsdale(people with too much money and nothing to do with it) + suns tickets = definitely some

Scottsdale gets a bad rap from the beautiful people
I grew up in Scottsdale, but we were definely not rich. It was just starting to expand north and attract the rich element when I moved. We were just normal lower middle class people.

Word.
Growing up in Phoenix, most of my friends were from the Scottsdale area. Some of whom even grew up to be beautiful people. It’s just an easy target, like the city of Los Angeles. There is more to LA than Hollywood and Beverly Hills, but where’s the fun in that?

I mentioned this in the chat yesterday
I think Chalmers is hyped so much purely because he hit that game-winner in the tourney. A huge bucket for sure, but all the hype is built on name-recognition.

Agreed
He’s a guy people knew b/c his team won. That doesn’t make him an NBA player.
As I said before, these scouts do this for a living and have access to SO MUCH more information then we do. I have a hard time questioning picks for this reason unless for example you are the Bobcats and have a solid PG in Felton and have a real need up front and you pick DJ Augustine…now that’s just silliness

yeah, but the sports media should know better.
of course, they don’t actually know much, which is why most of them selected the Lakers to win in 6, and most of them had Chalmers to be a mid 1st round pick.
