This just in.
You want the Gold? the Silver? No, how about the Bron?
Step aside Nets. Step aside Knicks. Step aside all you mortal NBA teams hoping to steal Bron in 2010.
Olympiakos, sans salary cap and luxury tax, is preparing to bid one of the world's greatest NBA players whatever it takes above the Cavs maximum possible offer to get Bron to play for the gods. And no taxes.
Sports agents everywhere are sacrificing mercedes and maybachs in joy at the prospect.
They are also getting Dragic in trade from Tau, giving him an insane contract as well, but mainly the capricious gods just want to torture suns fans by messing with the Suns and their mortal cap/tax constraints.

The Euro Menace
As much as I would hate to see a Euro brain drain of the NBA, the prospect of some Euro team blasting the salary cap and making an insane offer to Bron-Bron and D-Wade in 2010 would be pretty awesome. All the teams clearing cap space would be throwing max offers at the likes of Darko Milicic and Brian Cardinal.
Wait… What’s that you say? Amare Stoudemire has an early termination option in 2010?
Haha! Just kidding. Can we please bomb Europe back into the Stone Age? Thanks, Mr. President!

Sheer awesomeness
More European influence on mainstream American sports? Yes, please.
If Bron goes to Greece, I will have a two week party after which I will wake up a) dead b) divorced or c) governor.
This is just pure awesomeness.

"With the money being said that guys can get over there, it’s unbelievable," Wade said. Not only do you have international players coming to America, you’ve got American players going international. And you’ve got big-time players doing it now. It’s interesting.
"If they offer me $40 million a year and no taxes, I might have to go over there. I’ll have to see you guys later."

Woah
That would be a crazy thought, D-Wade leaving the NBA for Europe. I read somewhere that the club signing Childress actually shilled out 32M in order to have Childress at 20M after taxes. If the tax rate is the same, the team would have to put out something like 64M for D. Wade. That’s more than the payroll for a few NBA teams.

No one in the NBA makes US$25MM/year
Hit that number with a tax rate of ~25% gets you back to US$19MM or so.
So, if your number is right, A Euro team could outbid a US ballclub for about US$32MM per year, or about ~20 million euros.
While Euro basketball teams may not have the pimped-out NBA revenue generation streams, they do have old money, lots of old money, and also they have the notion of super rich people giving back to their community in the form a winning team (typically a footsie team).
Actually, I wish our team gave back to the community by winning more and doing less NBA Cares at their child’s Paradise Valley Elementary School for young trust fund babies.
