Entry #1 of Getting to Know a Summer Sun starts in probably the most exciting place on the roster. A true basketball media celebrity of the underground only the cool kids get it type.

Rod "Boom Tho" Benson not only lead the D-League in rebounding but is a world famous blogger with his own site and on yahoo's BDL where you can read a recent post about Shawn Marion noticing his shoes.

In short. Boom Tho isn't so much a basketball player as a movement. And now for a least a few weeks he will be a Sun. This can only end well.

Next Up - Justin Cage. Not quite a movement but perhaps we can help with that.

Mixed BOOM THOughts

OK, I can respect the silliness of the Boom Tho! movement. It’s fairly tongue in cheek for what’s basically an extended frat joke. The blogs (BDL and TooMuchRodBenson) are pretty entertaining, though the videos can go on a little long. I do recommend the “Would You Be My Boom Tho Girl?” slow jam and his “interview” with Bill Simmons, in which Simmons doesn’t ask him a basketball related question until it’s 3/4 of the way over.

We’ll see how he does in Vegas. If he can ball with as much effort as he tries to entertain, he might be worth a Paul Shirley/Pat Burke roster spot to give the Suns.com folks some rich material.

Oh, and serious bonus points for making Jenna Fischer the object of his affection.
