Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

My text message alert from Steve Kerr informs me that DJ Strawberry has been traded to Houston for rooke Sean Singletary.

No reports on the Internets yet, though.

Update. Here's one. I'm underwhelmed and a bit confused. Wasn't DJ going to be let go with Dragic on board? Stan?

Shocked

Ok, not so much. I figured the Suns just wouldn’t resign DJ so the fact they got someone back only can be a good thing.

And it looks like they got back a pure PG. On the small size but defensively oriented. A clear 3rd string PG that might be able match up better against guys like Nate Robinson or Chris Paul.

Matt Moore says he played well in Vegas but I don’t have any memory of him but I didn’t watch more then a few minutes of Kings ball so that really doesn’t mean much.

I can’t seem to find if he’s under contract or for how much. If not, this trade really doesn’t mean anything until probably after camp when the Suns can decide to sign him to a min contract. You can’t spend any less then that for the 13th roster spot.

Btw – I still wonder if LB is next to go. At this point dumping some salary to get under the lux cap and getting more depth up front wouldn’t hurt.

OTOH – I am less “wanting” LB gone at this point since he can be in a more clearly defined off the bench scoring role without having to hope he will be the backup PG now.

Quick Thoughts

So, he might be slightly cheaper than DJ for this season?

Don’t know much about him, but his college stats indicate that he was a 40% shooter. That doesn’t thrill me. DJ can’t shoot, either, but at least he’s 4 or 5 inches taller.

Not that this all really matters anyway.

Moving LB at this point really does not seem to make much sense. Outside of Nash, he’s the best long-range bomber on the team.

Mmmmm ... Guinness

undersized

as an acc guy i have watched my fair share of sean singletary. he’s an effective floor leader, a very streaky shooter who can get hot from anywhere on the court, but he’s about 5 foot 9. they may list him at 6, but even in college he looked undersized. there is no way he is going to be able to defend the larger point guards on the floor and he’s not quick enough with his first step to really get past everyone on the offensive end. at least with DJ you could play him at the 2 for defensive purposes.

i guess jerryd bayless really did end dj’s suns career. sad, i thought the kid had potential

I'm not surprised

that they traded Strawberry. He just couldn’t close out the game during summer league.
