Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

"They played well, all in all they gave a total effort. They all played well. We were up 12 to zero in the first quarter and went up 12 again. They kept fighting back, they kept fighting back, so they played well tonight."

Amare on why the Clips played well and he didn't

Let me interpret what he means here:

You see, since they played well and gave a total effort and they all played well that means they played well and fought back which lead to them playing well.

That all means of course that Amare didn’t need to really play well since all the well playing was being done on their side. Vote 4 Amare.

can't we just accept

that amare is dumb as a doornail and start cutting him some slack already?

I would love to do

that if Amare didn’t continue to a) over promote himself and b) make excuses for everything

phoenix stan...

i think your translation of amare was awesome…but I think you missed something…very quietly, inbetween the third playing well comment…I’ve found a request to “Go to McDonalds and get a happy meal…with a toy for a boy!”

I started focusing on him on the defensive end in part of the 2nd half...

It was like he wasnt even on the court. He stood around watching. I don’t remember who he was guarding but his man wasn’t getting the ball much and he gave absolutely no effort on help defense. It was very sad to watch.

that is very sad

sounds like instead of being motivated…he’s going the other way and has a foot out the door already.

Just a thought

We can definitely get AK47 from Utah for Amare, right? And maybe even some extra parts? Am I settling here? Does anyone really think that Amare is somehow going to take the leadership by the horns and get us to promise land? Don’t you like the ball movement and superior defense (we can stick him onto the perimeter guys too) AK provides? With Nash, Shaq, JRich, Hill… do we need another scorer?

Ok, my thought turned into something like 9 questions…

by gadogry on Jan 12, 2009 11:11 AM MST reply actions

Still no

I still don’t think we should trade Amare this season for anyone….too disruptive and he can turn the effort on. He’s done it before.

by Seth Pollack on Jan 12, 2009 11:29 AM MST up reply actions

What does it take?

Will not making the All Star line-up be enough to motivate STAT? I was at the game yesterday and even with his healthy pts. it felt more like a jrich / hill game than a Amare one. What are we asking for BTW, 30 pts/night? or just a consistent 20/10, better D, all of the above?

by STUCK IN LA on Jan 12, 2009 11:53 AM MST up reply actions

Not points

his scoring is not the issue at all…

Just look back to early in the season. He wasn’t picking up silly fouls and he was playing hard on D and rebounding better.

When he’s locked in effort wise it’s really clear what a difference he can make on both ends.

by Seth Pollack on Jan 12, 2009 12:03 PM MST up reply actions

I suggested that because it looks to me like Amare is sulking right now. And I don’t know what would make him motivated. I think he is sort of like Shawn Marion in this regard: he’s happy if you make him feel extremely appreciated and cozy, but otherwise he sort of just shuts it down.

We have more than enough talent to win it all. We just lack in cohesion and maybe some character.

great comment…for all that I liked Marion…it looks like Amare and Marion are very similar…as you said…and kind of act like children that need to be the center of attention…

we should trade him before the league catches on…I’m sure some have

i'd do that

watch amare grow up finally then and prove us wrong :-)

But bosh seems to be a strong guy mentally

with the recent games

I’d put the suns at 5

definitely not a team struggling to get the 8th spot in the west…we’ll see

Amare

This team has too many offensive threats and we don’t need to rely on Amare to get thirty a night. There is room for him to grab rebounds and play tenacious d. He needs to look at how Amundson is playing right now. All heart and energy….Sometimes the offensively gifted could learn some things from players that really have to work for minutes.

how can you be an all-star amare?

when the fans of phoenix, the people who are supposed to worship you and accept you for your shortcomings, have come to a sobering conclusion that you are a total idiot.
