Pregame podcast #9 - Where Joe Johnson is Overpaid
For this pregame podcast we hear from Brett of the blog Peachtree Hoops.
Brett is an infinitely reasonable blogger as you will hear until he dropped this bomb on me. I asked with all the sarcasm I could muster if he felt like Suns fans regarding the Joe Johnson trade. The response that the Hawks gave up too much for J.J. was a bit, shall we say, shocking.
Beyond that surprising discussion point, we got deep into the Hawks and I learned a lot about a team that I don't get to see play that often. You might find that interesting as well. Or you might fall asleep listening. Let me know.
Thank you Brett.

Sounds of war.
Sounds of changes.
It seems there are rumors about a trade involving Barbosa + Nash + Lopez X Calderon + Parker + Kapono + Bargnani and probably Moon.
This trade can be good with some nuances:
- Change a point guard for another point guard. Right.
- Change a two guard scorer for another, Parker. Right.
- Change a center that don’t use for 3 players. Right. But there are nuances to do: Bargnani is perfect because he is a perimeter big man to rest Amare and we can use Kapono or Parker + Moon to try to get a back up point guard, while sign Simms for the rest of the season.
We also can use Dudley and Tucker and Dragic in order to get another big man
The new roster:
1. Calderon – new acquisition – Dragic
2. Richardson – Parker? – Tucker
3. Barnes – Hill – Kapono? – Dudley
4. Amare – Bargnani – Amundson
5. Sacq – Simms

just what we need.
less defense. no hard feelings matrix7, but this trade is a joke. seriously, look what we are giving up.
a 2-time mvp, 2 years removed from his consecutive awards, for a point guard who plays horribly defensively, is unfamiliar with the system and really is somewhat overhyped. i do realize that calderon is younger than nash, and the raps probably wouldnt even trade him for nash straight up, but neither would the suns trade nash for calderon. we are in contending mode, not rebuilding mode, and frankly calderon (bad defense) is not the type of point guard kerr would want. o_O
barbosa for anthony parker?? seriously? is this all we can get? jamario moon? have you seen the dudes fg% this season? is he even still getting PT?? and jason kapono? imo, while barbosa needs to be traded for a back up pg, do we really trade him for pieces which hardly make sense? we are great offensively, and we want to add kapono??
lastly lopez for bargnani… i honestly believe lopez will be the better player in 3 years time. bargnani has been in this league for 3 years, that should have been enough time to prove himself – he hasnt. plus, you want to back up amare with bargnani?? an underrebounding big man, backs up another underrebounding big man? thats sooo wrong. basically this trade will suck. can u imagine how sweet it would be for the raps??
pg – nash
sg – barbosa
sf- ???
pf – bosh
c – jermaine o neal / lopez
im really not familiar with the raps lineup but this sure looks much improved.

Calderón is younger than Nash and can made the same statistic; probably hasn’t the inteligence of Nash but probably don’t make a lot of TO and his play fit well into Porter’s system. He has good legs and his defense will improve with time.
We don´t need Bargiani making 10 rebounds per game if he play along with a center that could rebound and score in the paint, but need a scorer power forward; I like Amundson but he is only intensity and that is not enough.
Parker insteed Barbosa to get score in the small guard.
And the others players (Moon, Kapono, Dudley, López, etc.) to get a point guard and someone in the paint, like Collison.
I think with the current roster is imposible to think in the championship, then is logic to think in changes.
Which is the best change? I don´t know but is necesary to change something.

I hope you understand my English.
Really I would like to sign Camby to rest Sacq, but I don’t think it was a true possibility.
Are there any player in Sun’s roster that could interest Clippers in orden to trade for Camby?

This rumor is crap
Look at the source:
I’ve heard speculation about such a possibility around the NBA and recently heard from e-mailer Stephen in Phoenix raising it as well. It’s an intriguing proposition.
Then it ended up here where they turned it into this:
In other news, NBA.com is reporting that a Steve Nash to Toronto deal could happen pretty soon.
Great way to get traffic to your web site. That’s it.

ummm...
Trading your overachieving, malcontent all-star forward for the greatest big man of the modern era, even if he is almost 100 years old? OK.
Trading your no-longer overachieving, malcontent 2-guard for a younger, 3-point shooting slam-dunk champ? OK.
Trading your 2-time MVP, fan-favorite, he’s slipped a little but still in the top 3 at his position point guard for a younger but clearly inferior version just as the team is building momentum? That’s Toronto fan grasping at straws as their season sinks into the muck.
