Nash to the Raptors?
According to Bulls.com’s Sam Smith there are rumblings around the NBA that the Suns could be close to trading two time MVP Steve Nash to the Toronto Raptors. …Steve Nash already has been talking about finishing his career (his contract expires in 2010) in New York or back home in Canada. Why not sooner? I’ve heard speculation about such a possibility around the NBA and recently heard from e-mailer Stephen in Phoenix raising it as well. It’s an intriguing proposition. The Suns start to look beyond Shaq now with the idea of building around Stoudemire. While the Raptors push to get back in serious playoff contention to try to persuade Bosh to resign. Toronto reportedly has been anxious to trade, but really has little of great value. Here’s the deal and while bold, it could respond to both teams’ desires. Nash....

Akaespo:
There is nothing but conjecture in your post and your referenced link. Why waste anyone’s time with a fanshot that amounts to nothing but a tabloid rumor? “Rumblings around the NBA?” What does that mean? Sam Smith? Just some hack in Chicago…And my favorite, one of Smith’s sources, “e-mailer Stephen in Phoenix.”
Good work, thanks for the 411. We’re all enlightened.

Sorry if I offended
Found the quote interesting. Honestly when you look at it everything you said was said about the Shaq deal in the days before it occurred. Sam Smith has some respect in NBA circles and sure it’s probably conjecture but sometimes where there is smoke there is fire.

at this point
nothing would surprise me except maybe trading shaq away haha
but seriously, what would the raptors have to give? im glad this rumor—at least for now—seems to be only a rumor.
oh and nash’s turnovers have been down recently haven’t they? and hes still been getting 10+ assists recently, albeit in a less flashy manner. and i hope the suns management wouldnt forget how CLUTCH he is in fourth quarters.

IMO
I don’t think Nash is or wanting to resign and he is not really fitting in under Porter’s coaching. I would not be suprise if Porter shops Nash a little bit. As for LB, he has been playing very, very consisent as of late and I would hate to see him go, but we have enough wing players and we need a big man and a point guard cause our Rooks aren’t getting it…yet. Which I’m sure they will be fashionably good eventually, just not anytime soon. So, as a Suns fan I would be crushed seeing either player go, but if its for the better of the team and we are “improving” (Like the Jrich trade) then I am all for it.

i don't know.
that deal seems a little bit…too big, almost?
suns give: nash, barbosa and lopez
suns get: calderon, bargnani, parker, kapono, and maybe moon?
let’s hope that the raptors have some secrets that we don’t know about, or are going to try and sign some stellar waiver wire players the rest of the league missed. if they’re really trying to push for a playoff run to keep bosh there, trading away four, maybe five of your guys midseason is not a way to do that.

Crazy deal
Calderon is the only one in that proposal who I could see helping long-term. Bargnani is a bust, he has Boris’ heart. Are Moon and Kapono better than Tucker and Barnes? Talk about a logjam at the 2/3. Kapono only helps if Nashstays here. Somewhere in a deal for Nash, you need a lottery pick. And are we ready to give up on Lopez?

agreed.
i’m not ready to give up on lopez yet. he’ll be a serviceable big man eventually.
and, i really want to see what tucker can do. i don’t know about you guys, but he’s one of the players i’m honestly most excited about. probably because what he can do in actual gametime is a complete mystery.
i don’t like the supposed trade rumors. i’d like to believe that kerr has a little bit more foresight than to trade for 3 or 4 underachieving players in moon, kapono, parker and bargnani. they’re serviceable in certain aspects, and bargnani is having himself a bit of a midseason burst currently, but history is bound to repeat itself, and the trade’s not worth the contracts we’d take on.

crazy deal yes
but moon and kapono are infinitely better than barnes and tucker any day of any week. barnes might be the best individual player of that bunch. but that is inconsequential to the different pairs. also you should realize that kapono had his best year playing with shaq in miami. pheonix is oddly lacking shooters these days too. grant hill don’t hit jumpers thats for damn sure.
i don’t like the idea of swapping calderon for nash. just because it doesn’t really change the complexion of either team. maybe the change will be positive, but i don’t like those types of lateral trades. might be the fantasy owner in me, but still.
also bargnani is not a total bust. and he is also not totally great. but he has been scoring 22 a game when he gets 35 minutes, to go with 7 boards. he is at least better than robin lopez.
all in all, i think if you need to kickstart your team this crazy deal is not so bad.

Moon and Kapono better than Barnes and Tucker?
Neither guy can do what Matt Barnes can do, and I guarantee you if Tucker could get the 25 MPG Moon gets he’d average those numbers or better. This trade won’t happen so it doesn’t matter, whoever came up with it obviously doesn’t pay attention to the Suns. We’re not going to trade both of our PGs for 1 PG, add to that 3 additional guys that are going to be battling for minutes at our most congested spots.
The only bright spot of this Fantasy League trade is Bargnani…I definitely don’t want to pay a guy $5mil a year for spot duty at center and the odd Shaqless game.

Barbosa's value
What could he fetch by himself? Not just in terms of players, but also draft picks? How high of a first round pick could he be traded for?

Sam Smith
Randomly makes crap up and tries to get himself traffic.
Google him and see what trades he’s had the “inside track” on during the last several years.

How about Nash, Tucker and 2nd rounder
for Calderon, Barnagni and 2 No.1’s sounds fair to me.
Nash better not be going anywhere unless the Suns get a ton back.

nope.
i’m not wanting to give up tucker. grant hill will probably be retiring after next season, and who knows if LB will be around for much longer. i have a feeling his days here are limited, even though that kid plays with heart and is always willing to try to learn something.
but, for the return value, we’d get next to nothing for tucker, i’m guessing. i want to see how he fleshes out as a legit NBA player.

If Tucker is so good he would be getting minutes and wouldn’t have been drafted 26th overall. Tucker is a tweener, a role player at best. I don’t get the love for Tucker

Understood
I just want to find out what we have before we trade him. With our depth, there’s little chance he’ll get the time. I think that if Barnes’ slump continues, we should give him some time. The home game against Minnesota is a perfect time to try it. A-Jeff is not going to be as much of a problem the way Shaq is playing.

no
Nash is are best player. He is the one with 2 mvp’s and the one that control’s the game. When Nash is not on the flour also the team falls apart.
Nash is my favorite player, and I would hate to see him leave. However, if he is to leave we better be getting someone who is great back. I do not see anybody who is really that great for Nash other than Bosh, but that is not going to happen, and if we’re going to trade a point gaurd we need a starting point gaurd in return
