PhoenixStan, you are working the double homophone or something in your comment. I’m not sure if you mean ‘expect’ or ‘accept’ or both. All seem to work in some twisted way that makes my head hurt.

We specialize in misinformation around here. Facts and stats just get in the way.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jan 29, 2009 11:39 AM MST reply actions

actually ATS,

as PtR’s Grammar Maestro, I’ll have to call you on this one. Although I’m technically out of my jurisdiction, a homophone (or homonym as it is sometimes called) is a word that is pronounced the same as another word that has a different meaning. An example of which is “board” and “bored”. Homophones typically represent why english is such a difficult language to learn, as any newcomer faced with the sentence “The solider decided to desert his dessert in the desert.” would likely attest.

There is really no technical definition to describe PhoenixStan’s wordplay. It’s just a common case of the ol’ reverse jinx.

I require no compensation for making the world a better place, Suns fans…

Not sure

what to make of the fact that my typo (of which there are many in my writings) prompted such considerable analysis of author’s intent.

Artest would be another mouth to feed, and his defense isn't what it once was.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

Yes, but that was the only solution we could some up with at the pub...

And Barbosa’s salary is the only one that goes through the trade machine.

+1

Tickets to the game were my only xmas present this year. The Suns defensive switches owe me big. J-rich, I’m looking at you!

by presbot on Jan 29, 2009 12:36 PM MST up reply actions

I almost cried

A co-worker gave me his lower bowl seats (quite the upgrade from my row 12 seats upstairs), and I saw that three up close from that end of the court. One of the most depressing regular season losses in my memory at least.

by TwinnerA on Jan 29, 2009 8:40 PM MST up reply actions

for the first time in years

since the pre-Barkley days … actually

I’m not excited to see this game.

Granted, I’ve had a hectic month but I can’t put my finger on the malaise and apathy I feel for this matchup.

Me too

I am oddly confident about this game as well..

Our winning is directly related to our motivation and effort. Hopefully the guys are extra motivated for this one.

by bangbang240 on Jan 29, 2009 1:17 PM MST up reply actions

Apathy

is understandable. It’s not like this game is going to be a WCF preview anymore. Just like Suns-Mavs doesn’t have the same ring it used to 2 yrs ago..

And for whatever reason, I feel that Matt Bonner is going to have a field day and the Spurs will take this.

by gadogry on Jan 29, 2009 3:07 PM MST up reply actions

I agree...

I can’t remember the last time there was such a lack of hype in the Valley concerning a match-up with the Spurs…sigh

by Silkster on Jan 29, 2009 8:00 PM MST up reply actions

this game actually does say a lot

Think about this. Krr came in and made the changes he did because the style of play we had before (D’antoni’s suns) was incapable of winning a championship. The only team that was ever able to stop that loose, run-n-gun style of play was the spurs. So riddle me this, what good has any changes been if we cant even beat the team that we overhauled our team to beat? Especially so if the spurs arent even as good as they used to be. All these moves that were made to make us a btter post-season team has done nothing but make us a worse regular season team. A team that now has their backs to the wall and legitimately might not even make it into the post season to display the “genius” of Kerr. If we lose this game against the spurs, I think we should add another morron point to te Kerr-meter. Anyone agree? Disagree?

by KnowGood on Jan 29, 2009 1:48 PM MST reply actions

I'd say 2 moron points!

"Basketball doesn't build character. It reveals it"

by PanamaSun on Jan 29, 2009 2:11 PM MST up reply actions

Yeahh...

I expect the Suns to run away with it in the first quarter only to trip and fall and give it all back by the end of the first half. That’s how it always is. And we’re on national television which does not bode well for the Suns.

by noonoo on Jan 29, 2009 8:46 PM MST reply actions

the missing piece to our puzzle

is Nash’s dribble-penetration (which would be a great porn title). The paint is usually clogged up AND scouts/coaches/players have gotten wise to the fact that Nash runs that like its a behind the net play in a hockey game (he is canadian, after all)

by Wichita SunSteeler on Jan 29, 2009 8:54 PM MST up reply actions

hehe

Then it’s not perfect. But I know what you’re saying. The Spurs are shooting the ball well and even though we’re intense and hitting our shots, it’s tough to get a lead when the Spurs are doing just as well as we are. Hopefully they’ll slow the hell down and we’ll keep on pushing.

all this all-star hype

Slam Dunk Contest where the tie beaker went down to Amare vs JRich. It makes me think a few things.

1) Why didnt Amare win that? His dunks were defnately better.
2) Why are do we have those two players on our squad now and actually less dunks than we had with Marion?
3) Why was Marion never in the dunk contest? Dude has hops like he’s one of them aliens in that crappy movie with charlie sheen.

I dont remember what it was called

the aliens could bend their legs th opposite way and jump super high. And speaking of Marion and his alien hops, there was/is this show where they use science to show athletes skills and such. Andthey were talking about how Marion had rubber muscles and it allowed him to move faster and get a bigger verticle leap than eeryone else. True story.

Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

what could be said that hasnt been said before?

Hack-a-Bowen was the dumbest idea ever. I understand dude is 22% from the line…but that isnt muc when he’s only been to the line, like, 8 times this season.

Shaq had some ugly turnovers, and on consecutive plays…and then not making the FTs at the end (when its most needed).

At least Amare isnt the focal point of poor play. On the contrary, Amare was great. Thank you for joining the team, even if it is 3 months into the season.

Shaq was what we thought he would be this season, what a change.

Nash and Hill are still doing it for me.

Barbosa and J-Rich were transparent.

Oh and turnovers

by Wichita SunSteeler on Jan 29, 2009 11:19 PM MST reply actions

Amare

its hard to criticize a guy who just grabbed 10 or 11? rebounds. But IMO most of his rebounds were uncontested ones that fell to his lap… There were a lot of rebound situations in the third qtr where he was in the lane and just seem to give up on rebounds that were out of his arm range – ive never seen this guy consistently fight for boards!

by toto_l2003 on Jan 29, 2009 11:23 PM MST up reply actions

by noonoo on Jan 29, 2009 11:24 PM MST up reply actions

If only he..

got half the heart of Amundson going after the ball… or even Barbosa! Problem w/ Amare is he just gets lively when shaq is out.. if he can just ramp up his defense/ rebounding when shaq gets most of the scores he would be a superstar and we would be winning.

i know, there are a lot of fault to go around … but this is one of suns fault that could be solved by the mere addition of HEART and GUTS from one player. its frustrating!

Why I think Pete Carroll is the best coach in college football

Because when the Trojans go into half tied or down, they come out and slit the throats of their opposition. Good coaches have the ability to keep a team ready to fight through the letdown of halftime, and whether they’re ahead, behind, or tied, they don’t come out flat and commit mental errors; they come out knowing exactly what they need to do and execute it like communists execute political enemies.

I think this game has to be on the coach for not keeping the team fired up through four quarters.

Take care of the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.

by SunDolphin on Jan 29, 2009 11:22 PM MST reply actions

so are you suggesting we fire Porter and hire Carroll?

I'm just like you, only ten times better.

by noonoo on Jan 29, 2009 11:25 PM MST up reply actions

Well, I don’t think Carroll would waste his time coaching this team.

I am suggesting that I see one thing that Porter doesn’t do well, that other coaches have the ability to do, and should be given a chance to do it. Not keepoing your team focused is as bad, if not worse, than being a 26 year old primodonna forward. You didn’t see Pop’s team come out foggy in the second half.

Take care of the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.

by ArizonaCactus on Jan 29, 2009 11:26 PM MST up reply actions

my closing thought on the game

When you say your team isnt good and wont go anywhere being who they are, and you make changes to beat the one team that was able to stop the team you think wont go anywhere, you have to come out and beat that team.

Basically, Kerr = moron.
