amar'e, nash considered more valuable to the team then shaq
according to NBA.com's race to the mvp, nash is number 16 and amare stoudemire is number 20. WTF? shaq on the other hand is considered under "other reader's favorites"
heres the full link:
no way is shaq lower than either of the two, what are these people talking about? o_O i would even go so far as to say i dont think nash right now warrants all-star consideration given his drop in performance.

This is an interesting question now isn't it. We've talked about Shaq deserving to be an all-star. We've ridiculed Amare for his all-star vote campaign. We haven't really gotten into whether Nash deserves to be selected at all.
Let's start the discuss with a vote from you...

hey ryan
I love Nash, but your right, I wouldn’t consider Nash an All Star this year…but…as you probably know….the voting for all stars has always been kind of a joke as far as I’m concerned….having yao and yi get so many votes is just plain stupid….and not having players like devin harris rewarded for out plaing so many others…just plain wrong…
On shaq, you make a strong point that I totally agree with…shaq is playing in the top 10-15 players in the league right now….I wonder why he’s not even on the radar for the mvp.
Likely because the guy (or group) that make up the weekly list also use bias instead of honesty for their choices….but at least the list has more accurate choices than the all stars being voted in.
Interesting thing, I’m really starting to believe Nash is still just as great as he was 1-2 years ago, I’m thinking more and more that Nash owed an awful lot to d’antoni and his style of playing. Give New York a year or 2, this will become more and more clear as some point guard becomes very highly respected on that team….many are already seeing this, I didn’t see it at first, because I was never a huge d’antoni fan, but I’m starting to see more and more just what he did for the suns and the nba….I really think new york is going to have a great shot at lebron and 1 or 2 others…..in 2010
too bad we won’t get him…Lebron is miles ahead of anyone except wade this year….wade is a total stud

Tough to Decide, but look at the list
Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant are locks. T-Mac is riding Yao’s Chinese Voting Bloc into the lineup. San Antonio should have at least one of its two guards in the game, based on the team’s record (I’d vote for Parker). Brandon Roy is having a good year. Chauncey Billups may have been the missing piece in Denver.

The Suns are still a star system and not a TEAM system
It’s mind-boggling how many “stars” and all-stars the team has, despite being middle of the pack.
There’s no way the Suns deserve to have 3 all-stars, even if the game is in PHX. Come on, coaches, revolt!

You don't deserve to have Steve Nash on this team.
You people disgust me.
Steve Kerr, please trade Steve Nash to the Lakers, ASAP.

i <3 nash
in fact, he was the reason i became a phoenix fan. but realistically speaking, he is having a hard time adjusting to the system. turnovers are way high, assists are down, points are down. hes still a great player, but as jsun mentioned, there are many other guards above him (based on this seasons performance) right now.

well said ryan...
Nash and the way that team’s offense starting playing was a big reason I started paying attention 3-4 years ago also. But, I will never be part of the general “fan” base. I consider that general fan base to love nash and the suns no matter how they act or play. To make excuses for anything wrong they do…
For me, I don’t elevate the players above me, or anyone else, it’s simply a fun game to watch, and Nash has holes in his pockets because he is losing the ball left and right…..not even a decision – if he’s an all star this year – he’s not even close…pliny – have you been watching the games this year – if you had – you’d see what we see

if i were an nba star
i would absolutely campaign for the all star game because you get paid major money. plus you probably get the double bonus if your contract is incentive laden. so… whatever. in any case.
none of your guys deserve to make the all star game if amare doesn’t deserve it.

on amare
you are stuck on “the dunk” thing….just because amare makes some flashy plays, but amare is simply said – not a leader – a leader motivates everyone on the team to work harder – like duncan – or k.g. – etc
Amare is nowhere near that….amare has a touch of “the marbury/A.I” in him, where he thinks way too much about himself….it’s funny so many people haven’t figured it out yet…clue – he changes his jersey to number 1 – ok…he’ll say its about that something one – teach one thing….but that’s a load of bull….I hear more about amare campaigning for the all star game then doing stuff for his charity…Show me a player that’s donating 10-20% of his salary (1-3 million) instead of .5 – 1% and then I’ll show you someone that really cares….
Shaq is the center of this team, yes he can’t shoot free throws, but he does everything else, and he’s getting in better shape…and I think that he’ll get even better as the season goes…porter has a good strategy in giving him rest and games off here and there – something d’antoni would/could never do – he burned his players out!!!!!!

Still a top 10 player
Despite Amare’s faults there’s not 10 or 12 players better then him in the game. And there are 30 teams so….
In fact – I would challenge you to list 10 players better. I will give you Duncan, Kobe, LeBron, Wade. You can take it from there.

19 - you have Roy on there twice
and really Marion? Harris? Manu? and T Mac! The Rockets fans would lick your nuts for a year to trade Amare for T Mac.
Come on.

LMAO
hilarious man. hahaha. although i would have to agree that if defense was factored in, i would probably take 15 people above amare. but that rockets fans comment was friggin hillarious. =)

Oops
One of those Brandon Roys should have been Deron Williams, and while we’re at it I should probably include Carmelo.
As for Shawn Marion, damn straight I think he’s better than Amare. Not as a scorer (although Nash to Trix and Boris to Trix were pretty much money plays), but in almost every other aspect of the game? Hell yes, and our defense still hasn’t recovered from Trix’s departure.
Devin Harris? He’s doing a Nash/Chris Paul in New Jersey, and almost single-handedly has them in the playoff race.
Manu? Where have you been the last 5 years? The single best crunch-time player in the game today, bar none, and possibly one of the top 5 of all time. Transcendentally good when he needs to be, and without him Tim Duncan as at least two fewer rings.
T-Mac? When T-Mac is healthy, he’s as good as any other 2 guard in the game.
Also, bear in mind that I didn’t include players like Millsap, who might actually be playing more consistently and productively than him, Chris Bosh who is having a statistically more productive season, or someone like Kirilenko who’s just a better all-round player, and contributes across the box score.
Listen, I really don’t care for Amare’s game, because I think he’s a flashy one-dimensional, self-centered player, who under-rebounds for his size, and plays defense with sporadic effort. The 2004-2005 Suns were better without him, and I remain convinced that had Kurt Thomas stayed healthy throughout that season, not only would the Suns have won 60+ games, but the Championship too.

I would agree with Marion if this were two years ago.
But he’s fallen behind Amare in several other categories now.
by Azreous on Jan 6, 2009 5:21 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
I added Shawn Marion to the list..
to make a not so subtle point.
Shawn is still as good as he was, imho, adjusting for the fact he isn’t playing with a point guard who can set him up for easy shots (hence the precipitous drop in shooting %), and the fact that he’s playing with other players who can rebound.
OTOH, he’s still out-rebounding and matching Stat for blocks, despite giving up 3" in height.
