Taveling? Not traveling anymore?
Are we serious? I like this line in the article...
"Whether or not this will affect play on the court remains to be seen. Referees have long been instructed to allow two steps and in interviews with NBA players last season there was some confusion about the rule."
Can we assume that this happens with other rules?
How about reaching in? (ie bruce bowen on the spurs). Based on how that article reads that is a statement out of the president of referee operations mouth. What do you guys think?
Will this affect anything for us?
I think Amare might like the rule. May make his moves to the basket more effective?

one and a half
I always thought is was one and a half, that if that second foot goes down before the ball leaves the shooter’s hand, it’s a travel.
Section XIV, paragraph f:
In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the player’s hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor.
Can’t have two steps, unless the pivot foot is picked up, unless of course we have a player with three legs, which I have never seen up to this point.

Here is the whole section, explzining the two-count rule
Section XIV-Traveling
a. A player who receives the ball while standing still may pivot, using either foot as the pivot foot.
b. A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may use a two-count rhythm in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball.
The first count occurs:
(1) As he receives the ball, if either foot is touching the floor at the time he receives it.
(2) As the foot touches the floor, or as both feet touch the floor simultane- ously after he receives the ball, if both feet are off the floor when he receives it.
The second occurs:
(1) After the count of one when either foot touches the floor, or both feet touch the floor simultaneously.
c. A player who comes to a stop on the count of one may pivot, using either foot as the pivot foot.
d. A player who comes to a stop on the count of two, with one foot in advance of the other, may pivot using only the rear foot as the pivot foot.
e. A player who comes to a stop on the count of two, with neither foot in advance of the other, may use either foot as the pivot foot.
f. In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the player’s hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor.
g. If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor. If he drops the ball while in the air, he may not be the first to touch the ball.
h. A player who falls to the floor while holding the ball, or while coming to a stop, may not gain an advantage by sliding.
i. A player who attempts a field goal may not be the first to touch the ball if it fails to touch the backboard, basket ring or another player.
PENALTY: Loss of ball. The ball is awarded to the opposing team at the sideline, nearest spot of the violation but no nearer the baseline than the foul line extended.

Leaving the Bench
If refs have been instructed to ignore the travelling calls, there must be some witty observation that can be made about taking two steps onto the court from the bench. I can’t think of anything at the moment thou.

It might help Amare
He gets dinged for the shuffle step when he starts to drive. Will it affect that part?

refs hate him - he'll never get a break
He’s the only star I see that consistently gets disrespected by the refs, And it is not because he gripes. Ecver watch Tim Duncan?

They say "don't swim with the sharks", but I'm faster than sharks so it's not a big deal...

Refs hate Amare?
I don’t think Refs hate Amare. Maybe they personally dislike him or whatever but seriously the dude gets a whole lot of calls. He is an “and one” machine shooting 10+ free throws a night usually.
Much like Karl Malone used to, he does get a whole lot of “touch” fouls called in his favor. Sure some are “real” fouls and are called (or missed) but that happens with everyone.
Bottom line: He’s not shooting as many free throws as he shoots without the benefit of calls by the refs.

Most of those calls are legit though.
but when he goes up for a block or drives into the lane it is usually a foul on him. Kobe barrelks into the lane all the time and ususllay gets the call in his favor.
