Game Thread: Suns vs 76ers ¡Hecho en Mexico!

Phoenix Suns at Philadelphia 76ers, Oct 18, 2009 5:00 PM MDT

Phoenix Suns @ Philadelphia 76ers

Sunday, Oct 18, 2009, 7:00 PM MDT
Arena Monterrey - Monterrey, Mexico - NBATV

Questions of the game

  • Will Elton Brand do slightly better than 5pts, 5 reb and 6 fouls in 24 minutes?
  • Will Grant Hill bust any more 76er faces?
  • Can Goran Dragic bounce back from his less than stellar -28 in 20 minutes?
  • Will Amare avoid the Swine Flu he fears so much?
  • Can Alando Tucker and Taylor Griffin get more minutes than Carlos Powell and Dan Dickau?

These questions and more will be answered ON TV at 4pm AZ Time on NBATV...

First

I’m very disappointed in Dragic. He’s gonna prove Kerr and I wrong. Tsk, tsk.

Fanaticism is not logical

Isn’t it Hecho en Mexico?

Why Griff got guaranteed money is beyond my understanding.

I predict we see more Tucker in this game and the rest of preseason. If Dragic can’t handle point, LB is the man, which opens up a spot at the 2.

Will, if LB is the man, then where's he been the last few seasons?

The truth is that LB is not a point guard, he’s just stuck in a point guards body. LB isn’t a pass first point, he’s not even a pass second point. He’s an “l’ll pass if I’m flying out of control and can’t see the basket, maybe” point.

What makes it worse is that the players know this. When Nash is on the court, the players know that if they run the plays, move around a lot, and try to get open, that they’ll be rewarded. But when Barbosa takes the point, the players understand they’re just there to rebound and set picks.

Honestly, I’d rather see Grant run the point forward. He doesn’t need to create the offense by beating his man and finding the open guys. He simply needs to work the plays. Barbosa doesn’t do that. He tries to iso, sees an opening, and the moment he lowers his shoulder, he is not passing unless it’s the absolute last option.

by Max Simbron on Oct 18, 2009 1:12 PM MDT up reply actions

I agree LB is no point, but I was mainly referring to the roster construction. We cannot keep Dickau around or pick up another PG without making another move (and paying another player), which most likely won’t happen. Making Hill the backup PG is problematic on many levels. If Hill starts, how’s he going to get enough rest to also play PG when Nash isn’t on the floor? That would necessitate him not starting, the Suns starting Dudley, which would be problematic for Hill who gets warmed up and then has to sit.

My point is that the roster is constructed in such a way that the Suns don’t have much flexibility at PG. If Dragic shows he cannot handle things what do we do with him? Paying him over a million to sit on the bench or go to D-League (can he do that?) is either not an option or a an unfortunate one. Then we need to find a PG from outside the organization, or keep Dickau. I think there is a reason we haven’t picked up a big to replace Lopez-I think they want to see how we fair without him, thereby avoiding bringing in another guy to pay.

Que, no comprenden NBA en español?

A mi me gusta el comentario en español. Son mas animados y me parece que mas excitante, especialmente porque este juege es un poco abburido.

I'm sorry I didn't cover this game.

I would have liked to prank the spanish media announcers, and tell them that Eddie Jordan (76ers coach) was actually Terrence Howard (Hustle and Flow).

Regardless of the language

it is pretty clear that the 76ers are pissed about the other night and the suns just want to get this game over with

He might be the real team x-factor

If he could play solid D, and efficiently drop 20/4/3 (pts/reb/ass), we might have something.

Hey MAx, who were those sharp lookers courtside? Were they famous actors or something?
