Jarron Collins is not the answer
With all the articles around Jarron Collins that he can be signed as a free agent to answer the lack of rebounding, can we not just continue the trade in which Amare was supposed to go to Goldenstate for Biedrins, Azubuike and (supposedly Curry). I don't really care much about Azubuike or Curry, but Biedrins alone can help us with rebounding and front court defense. I know he lacks the scoring instinct Amare has, but our current front court is consisted of 6'10 & 6'11 guys not known for rebounding and defense. The front office should revive trade talks with Goldenstate that has Biedrins in it with or without Curry.

Biedrins
This team needs a serious makeover. Starting over with 22yr old Andris Biedrins and his reasonable-for-a-big-man 9 mil a yr contract is a good start. I’d ship out Grant Hill and Richardson next after Amare. Grant has got to go because he doesn’t fit in a rebuilding team, plays a position that is easily replaceable (ie Jared Dudley) and he has some value. Richardson has to go because his contract sucks and we could easily replace him with whatever spare parts GS adds in with a Stoudemire trade (ie Azibuke, Morrow etc).

Collins was/is not going to be signed to “answer the lack of rebounding.” He would be signed as a replacement 5 for the injured Robin Lopez. A look at Collins’ career numbers confirms that he really isn’t the answer to any of the Suns problems, just a replacement. Let’s also keep in mind, it’s still only a rumor, and Paul Coro noted it would be a “tryout.”

Obviously not. Golden State backed out of the trade on draft night. In order to be more marketable (or eligible for he’s desired max extension), Amare needs to consistently show he’s healthy, and play like one of the top PF’s in the game, that is, return to his pre injury self. He may already be there, but judging him on his preseason numbers isn’t the best way to evaluate where he’s at.
The front office should revive trade talks with Goldenstate that has Biedrins in it with or without Curry.
Would you want to do business with GS again? This is the team whose professional tandem of Don Nelson and Larry Riley backed out of that draft night deal once Curry fell into their lap. I’m sure Steve Kerr was more than a bit upset at that embarrassment and the damage control he had to perform afterwards.

After we dont need Jarron Collins you lost me
Lets quit with the dumb Amare trades Azibuke isn’t needed..Stephen Curry hasen’t been impressive and Biedrins cant score lus hes not worth 9 mil a yr..If we were to go out and get someone it should be a Kurt Thomas or a Dajuan Blair..Quit trying to trade the team..Everyone wants to bring in all these Warriors but they’re loosers they’re in the lottery every year..If we get enough of them we’ll suck too.. Amare is our best offensive weapon dont trade him..nobody is gonna take richardsons contract. in this economy.. we keep trying to get these players that can defend and rebound but they cant score..Look at our bench Amundson Lopez Dudley all try hard but they’re no scoring threats if Barbosa isnt scoring our bench isnt worth anything..

Defense like Rebounding is all about desire and anticipation
Amundson and Dudley already has the defense part of their game. Now they need to be coached on their offense. You are right about Amare being our best offensive weapon and yet he is also one of the biggest flaws in the defense. Every year we read about defensive commitment and every season we get out -rebounded by teams that has a solid frontcourt defense i.e. , Gasol / Bynum & Aldridge / Pryzbilla. We will not always shoot more than 50% on FG or 45% on 3pt. Teams like Lakers and the Trailblazers will not get out-rebounded by the Suns, but we need to reduce that disparity in the rebound totals.
The Suns have never had issues on where the offense comes from. But we had issues on defense. Mending the rebound disparity problem against such teams would really help the team.

We will always be outrebounded. With what we got, we need a big lineup to be competitive with the Spurs, Lakers, Blazers. We need a frontline of Amare, Frye and Lopez out there together. Or we need to rebuild as I described above to get the right players.

Suns need to sign this guy as a power forward: 6-8, 290 and athletic. I’d like ti see a guy like him put Duncan on his butt.

Would Amare for Biedrins and Jackson go down?
Sorry about that. Would this trade have more feasibility of happening? Jackson wants to go, and GS is only a parlor trick without some low-post scoring threat. Biedrins can’t even put up the scoring numbers that Doris did the year Amare was out. (Alternatively, would we become a parlor trick if we lost Amare?). Would a starting lineup of Biedrins, Frye, Jackson, Richardson, and Nash be better defensively and from a rebounding standpoint? I think so. Offensively, lots of firepower on the wing, but no low post threat or pick and roll. Tricky indeed.
We need help in D and rebounding downlow now, I have a bad feeling about it getting ugly early on. Nobody on the wire is going to truly help and Fropez will not pan out, a trade is going to have to happen. What trade? Kerr is crazy, it could be anything

The NBA... Where Fan Panic Happens.
I think I’ve heard this conversation before… and I thought it was just as retarded then.
This is crazy talk to me.
The season hasn’t even started and everyone is in a mad panic. At least give it few (like 20) real games until you all start to burn the house down.

The answer isnt trading amare, its finding someone to compliment him. Trade Grant, Amare, and JRich? You’d end up with the basketball version of the Bad News Bears.

next season
im sure we will sign a scrub to fill out the bench unitl Lopez comes back and im sure when we get 8th seed and get bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Fakers and we go into the off season the front office will look for a big body to sign in Free Agency.
as we have the last pick of the draft in the second round who im sure will be a scrub i dont we will find a gem.

This article is ridiculous.
No. We should not trade Amare for Biedrins. Thats asinine as foolish talk. For one, all Beans gives us is rebounding. We may not have that this year, but we can easily get it next year from either the draft or sign or trade. Why get rid of arguably the best PF in the game and your future perennial All-Star for boards? Answer, you wouldn’t. Yes, the Suns may suck at boards this year and may lose a lot because of it. But I am more than willing to have a bad year this year and pick up a big in the summer and keep Amare then trade amare, likely get NO results at all then try to find comparable talent in the draft or via a sign.
IDIOTIC!
Go read a book!

Disagree
I don’t agree with you that fixing our rebounding and defensive deficiencies will be easily rectified next off season. See how Steve Kerr was able to address it this season, Jarron frickin Collins, frickin yay.
No one is suggesting a straight up trade of Beans for Amare. We have no first round draft pick next year. Beans for Amare salaries don’t match. So extra stuff must be included. Those other players would come over would also help us gain a new identity. If Steve Kerr had any kind of prowess as GM, we’d get draft picks and some of the young talent from GS that might actually thrive when not coached by Nellie. Or those spare parts could be packaged and shipped to someone else. You have to think big picture as a GM. You have to look two or three moves ahead. There are draft picks, trade exceptions, other teams players they are willing to move, your teams holes, and the salary cap etc to consider. You are retarded if you only see “if I trade this guy, I get this guy”
by eagleheart on Oct 27, 2009 1:41 AM MDT up reply actions 1 recs
Nope.
I think you are slightly underestimating the amount of pick ups possible this offseason. I know the hype around the Summer of 2010 and how it has been somewhat debunked by some writers and bloggers. Fine. My point still stands (which, by the way, you really didn’t address). Why would you trade Amare for ANYONE that GS can offer? The answer is you wouldn’t, especially for some unknown draft pick or “young talent” or “spare parts.” And even more indicative of my point is that this post is all about solving rebounding issues. I agree that we are bad at rebounding but trading with GS is not the answer and is actually quite dumb.
So, in reply, YOU are retarded if you think “spare parts” “young talent” and potential draft picks (which haven’t come up at all in a discussion of trading Amare to GS) are worth one of the best PFs in the game in an illadvised attempt to solve our rebounding woes.
Go read a book!

Anybody
trading Amare for Biedrins is insane. Kerr would be laughed out of the league. You have an offensive machine that could average 30 ppg in an offense that featured him, rebounds at an average rate, and puts opposing players in foul trouble. On the other hand, Biedrins is worse than Shaq as a foul shooter, has no game beyond 3 feet from the basket, and allows opponents to double team the W’s frontcourt scorer.
Stop it anyway! Geez.

of he will be laughed out. I said package Biedrins with other talent from GoldenState plus 1st round draft pick. With regards to his free throw shooting percentages, he’s only 23 w/c means a lot of time for assistant coaches to help him for that. Amare won’t commit to defense and by the time we sign him to the contract he wants, he will be virtually untradeable. Who the hell wants a guy that with all the praise he gets for his athleticism cannot even manage to average at least 10 rbs a game. Another option is that he’ll play-out this upcoming season (assuming he won’t take his player option) and we lose him at the end without anything in return.

The only package
with GS that makess ense includes Randolph AND a #1. Kerr lready tried that. What do you think all og the hullabaloo was last draft? Let it go. GS is a dry well.
I’ll say it again until you refute it. Amare is a proven scorer who nobody has ever stopped. No big man in the league shoots outside and at the foul line like him. No one puts more pressure on the opposing front line in terms of foul problems. Howard comes close, but he can’t make his foul shots. Yes he needs to commit to defense, but he has never had a coach to teach him that. If Popovich were coaching him, he’d be a defensive monster. Can you imagine him and Duncan in the same frontcourt? You may see it next year.

Amare and Duncan both on Spurs next year?
How the hell would that happen? Unless Amare wants to opt out in order to sign for the veteran minimum, I don’t see any scenario in which that possibly happens. The Spurs won’t have cap space for a long time.

Major off-season moves for Suns
The Sun’s sole major transaction of this past summer was trading Shaq for a ham sandwich and a few bucks. Love him or hate him (and BS about unquantifiable “chemistry” aside), he was the only person on the team last year that cared about defense and damn near the only one that cared about rebounding. Pretty much everyone on this blog hates on/blames Shaq for everything short of the Bay of Pigs incident, so they obviously weren’t about him or what he’s about on the court.
And now I see all these comments about the Suns needing “defense and rebounding” this season…..gee, ya think? Worse yet, did the team actually believe that it had those 2 covetted qualities in a player like Lopez? They couldn’t possibly have thought so… Lou is the man, but I think his energy is best off the bench and he’s too small to matchup with the big boys like Shaq, Howard, Bynum etc
Sadly, the Suns are all about Sarver’s wallet and not their fans’ hearts at this point. It’s going to be a long season, boys and girls.

That ham sandwich and a few bucks...
…got a great center to a contender and the Suns some much-needed cap relief. If they don’t make that trade, then they’re grossly over-spending (as opposed to just overspending like they are now) on a non-playoff team and Shaq might not return to the playoffs for the SECOND year in a row. You can love Shaq all you want, but his presence was not going to make the Suns a contender and maybe not even a playoff team.
I think in most circles, that’s referred to as a “win-win.”
by Mike Lisboa on Oct 27, 2009 7:45 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree about the win-win trade comment
Since the Suns are in cost-cutting mode and the Cavs are in win-at-any-cost mode, the trade did make sense for both teams and all players involved.
However, my point was that now I’m seeing a lot of comments on this blog that the Suns need defense and rebounding. Why are these comments just recently coming up? It’s not like the team had those things when Lopez was not injured. I’m just wondering why these concerns weren’t voiced earlier. It seems almost as if the Suns’ brass thought the newly rediscovered “chemistry” from getting rid of Evil Shaq would make up for any other glaring holes in the team (such as defense and rebounding).
Even when Lopez was healthy, the Suns didn’t have defense and rebounding. Why didn’t they at least attempt to add someone over the offseason who possessed these abilities? (and don’t even try to tell me they have done that with Collins) Other than far fetched Tyson Chandler trade chatter, I don’t remember hearing anything about the Suns trying to solidify their big man situation over this past off-season

Defense and Rebounding
Shaq played hard here and did his thing but he did not make the Suns better defensively. They were worse last year than in previous years. The rebounding did indeed improve.
I agree they need more bigs but keeping Shaq wasn’t the answer to that (and btw – we have no idea what kind of impact Robin will have. He didn’t play in one preseason game)
