2009 NBA GM Survey and Predictions

Today, NBA.com released the results of its eighth annual survey of the league's general managers. The majority of GMs believe that the Lakers will repeat as NBA champions for the seventh time in their history, and that LeBron James will earn his second straight MVP award.

More than 70 percent of those who responded believe that the Spurs, with the additions of Richard Jefferson and Antonio McDyess, did the most to improve their team this summer. And even though 17.3 percent believe the Magic made the best moves of the offseason, only 7.1 percent believe Orlando will make a return trip to The Finals.

Below are select results from this year's survey. The full results (60 questions in all) are posted at NBA.com

Well, Gee

I guess we should just throw in the towell. Tell me, how many GMs before last season thought the Cardinals would make the Super Bowl?

OK I have some serious problems with this poll:

-The Spurs made the best moves this off season? How can you say the aquisition of two players makes you the franchise who made the best moves?

-Yeah Phil Jackson is the best. He’s got Kobe Bryant just like he had Jordan, etc, etc. Let’s see him coach the Grizz and see how he does.

And the rest, wow, some real stretches choosing LeBron as MVP and Howard as best defender. Oh and let’s not forget Washington gets Arenas back this season. Adding an additional 25 pts a game should probably make them a little more improved. Yep.

Most likely

The GMs were doing their lists in their sleep. Or even have some monkey in the office do it for them. That’s why the responses are so uninteresting.

At least Kupchak (who couldn’t pick his own team) picked us win the Pacific instead of the Clippers.

Or maybe that was just Mark Cuban hating Ron Artest.
