Daily Links: Where "Partizan" = Moral Victory
Partizan Belgrade came to the states to test their mettle against the world's best in a couple of exhibition games and were thrilled to only lose by about 30 points to the Nuggets and Suns.
Now that's what I call putting a positive spin on life...

This DeJuan Blair thing is like a slow motion train wreck. This kid has no ACL's in either knee. Can we possibly be more delusional in thinking that he's going to make it two years in the league?

They lost by 30 not to the Suns or Nugs, but to rookies and out-of-shape scrubs...
I respect bald-faced PR like this.
Wondering what to drink to during suns games...
When they talk about Blair, I grit my teeth.
That’s the GSW pick that was ours!! We gave the 47th, Blair, 500K to Spurs for 45th to pick Dragic. You sure Detroit was going to take Dragic at 46, which Billups and Stuckey (and maybe even Will Bynum) already on board? Even so, would they have felt so strong about Dragic that they would turn down 47th + 500K from us?
Yeah Blair may last only 2 years. But that’s all the Spurs need. That’s their window. Good for them.
On the BRIGHT SIDE, remember all those “We want Blair!!!” chants in early June? At least I’m thankful that we didn’t take him at 14,
What does feeling “phenomenal” feel like? Doubt I’ve ever felt “phenomenal.” Maybe “pretty good” or “great,” after a few drinks or something, but never “phenomenal.” I want to know Amare’s secret.
Amare's Secret:
lay face down for 22 hours a day for 10 days, reading The Art of War and the 48 Laws of Power.
Then run around a bit – you too will feel phenomenal!

“Phenomenal” is just one more overused word. Tim Kempton says it whenever he can; I grew tired of it a long time ago.
That reminds me
Of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s song “Phenomena” … except they piss me off, because they say “Something like a phenomena” … “phenomenon” is the singular, dummies!
LL stole it!
Don’t get me wrong. As far as I’m concerned a little LL makes everything better. But that’s a sample from “White Lines” by Grandmaster Melle Mel.
unfortunate..
it’s rather draining that the Suns played a non-NBA opponent for their first preseason game. I can’t talk about this game publicly with any credibility. I mean..it’s good that they got practice for the rest of the preseason, but the results of the actual game that was played are meaningless.
Meh.
Not much of the pre-season is very credible. After attending the Indian Wells farce last season, I can tell you there wasn’t much credible about that game either. It was cold, windy and bore no relation to a regular season game even though it was against an NBA team. I don’t have a problem with these international exhibition games. I think they’re good for the game of basketball.
holy hometown bias.
i didn’t hear one bad thing said about a spurs player, except for things like, “he lacked on the defensive end on a few posessions”, which were quickly covered up with, “but he has all the tools to be a skilled defender”.
really? every young player in the NBA has the “physical tools” to be a skilled defender. i think (and i’ll stand by this, as i’m sure it’s been said before) that defense is more mental than anything. yeah, you’ve got to be quick, you’ve got to be agile and tough, but if you don’t have the mental quickness to know where to be before the play even happens, you won’t ever be a “skilled defender”.
so, while i say that (and generally grew very tired of the tepidness of all of the comments), it’s good to be high on your team.
i just wish they would stand by their comments like “he lacked on the defensive end”. stand up for your beliefs! don’t worry if some other team-loving fan comes in and says “BUT YOU DON’T KNOW HE HAS POTENTIAL HE CAN BE SKILLED HE NEEDS TIME HE’S GONNA BE A STAR ONE DAY LA LA LA”. it’s like us saying that dragic needs to improve his all-around attitude and consistency on the floor. no one will debate that. we’re not going to coddle the kid. he’s already got a bigger contract than he probably should have.
I don’t understand your complaint, since we weren’t discussing the Spurs. Maybe you’re responding to something in the links. But you bet your life we have a hometown bias. Don’t you? Holy hometown bias, Trevor—to the Sunsmobile!
sorry, yeah...it's the spurs link. the last one.
probably should’ve noted that. haha.
but yes! every city’s got a hometown bias. but i still think they could’ve stuck to their guns on a couple points, instead of being so lukewarm.
