Dudley + Jrich trade
A year ago when the Suns traded Boris and Bell for Dudley and Jrich, most of this site, and Suns fans were upset about the trade, thinking the Suns got the worse of the deal. Also multiple announcers would make comments regarding how the Suns made the trade thinking they would be under Terry Porter, and if they had it to do over knowing they would still SSOL they wouldn't have made the trade... WHAT?!
Well my stance is the same it was when the trade was made last year. We got the most talented player in the trade, someone that fits the RUNNING GAME perfectly, he can spread the floor, shoot, create for himself, post up, finish, and run the floor. Clearly a skill set that puts him head and shoulders above Boris and Raja. Most saw Jrich as the replacement for Raja, I disagreed at the time, and even more so, do now. Jrich replaced Boris offensively. Defensively most thought Jrich was a downgrade compared to Bell. Again, same stance as when the trade happened. Bell was overrated defender, as much as I loved him, his rise to mainstream was from grit, and more or less his clothesline on Kobe. Which we all loved. But it certainly made him appear as a better defender than he actually brought to the table. He didn't rebound his position well, he had no offensive game in the paint or off the dribble, he couldn't run the floor in space and finish at the basket. Comparisons of Raja to Jrich are embarrassing.
So, at the time not even knowing too much about Dudley, if we traded Boris and Bell for Jrich we had gotten the better deal. This was by far the best move Kerr has made. The production from Dudley offensively and defensively this season makes him a better player than Bell.

That last line?
Not really a good idea if you want the “readers” to be supportive of your opinion.
And I disagree with you wholeheartedly.
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

there was no point for the last line.
also, dudley isn’t better than bell, at least not right now. you say bell’s defense was overrated, and i think that MIGHT only apply to the last year he was here. he was a quality defender, and was definitely a superstar stopper. he knew where the defender was going to be, and he would get there before them. you don’t just earn the moniker of an elite defensive player for nothing, especially in the NBA.
now, as far as richardson (or dudley, for that matter) vs. diaw, it’s not even a legitimate comparison. neither play the 4 or 5, except for dudley on spot duty, and that’s only for a minute. one thing i can say about both players is that this season, both seem to be producing on a more consistent basis that diaw did. diaw has all the talent, but guess what? he showed up to the bobcat’s training overweight. i think he did that every year with the suns. meanwhile, richardson and dudley worked extremely hard to get into the best shape of their lives this summer.
i agree with a few of your ideas, but the whole “holier than thou” sentiment will get old, quick.
anyhow, welcome to the site.

Actually
if you go back and look almost universally folks around here supported the trade.
Personally I was against it before I was for it…
but hey…glad you got it right
(I still think it was a) a panic move and b) I miss Boris Diaw)

I'm right there with you man
I long for Boris Diaw.
I dream of Boris Diaw’s silky smooth touch…
Around the basket, I mean.

re: the last line
I am taking that point off you because you have no proof that you were “for” the trade before 1 day ago when you wrote this post.
No proof, no pudding.
(i’m sure you can tell by now that the last line of your post was a mistake)

Oh wait...
Did you write this amazingly prophetic piece last year titled, “Why the Sun should have traded Nash:” … yeah we’ll just go ahead and give you a -1 on that so your arbitrarily self-awarded brownie point for this trade is a wash..

Also
You said Jrich replaces Boris. Wrong. Nothing in this trade replaces Boris – the power forward who can facilitate and also be an inside threat. Of course one of the reasons we made this trade is that that Boris was obnly showing up every other game or so.
But no, Richardson doesn’t replace him.

what's this business about john wall?
i haven’t heard anything about the kid, ever.
i’ve heard he’s supposed to be the second coming of lebron, in a point guard. i just have never heard his name anywhere else aside from on BSotS and a couple other random basketball sites. no ESPN, no yahoo!, no anything.

not lebron
more like derrick rose. We may never see another Lebron – 6-8, 270, fast as a guard.

You're losing your touch Stan ;)!
Wall’s been the bee’s knees for the past year and a half or so. He made his NCAA debut last night and hit the game-winner. I think he’s going to be better than Rose.

I'm pretty sure Phoenix Stan is perfectly aware of who John Wall is.
Take a look. Wasn’t him asking about JW. Now if you want to say he’s losing his touch after that Brandon Jennings piece… ;)

It would be Yao Michael. Or Michael Yao. Or Ming Jordan. Or Jordan Ming. Depending on if you went with the Chinese or American placement of the surname.

He’ll never win anything. All you have to know about him is he left Mike K when he desperately needed a year or two of his teaching.

totally agree, teske
Totally agree with everything said in this post. When the trade happened, I was so ecstatic. Doris Diaw is overrated and Bell is DONE. We clearly got not only the best player in the trade, but the best two players, both of whom are younger and will have longer careers ahead. It is by far the best move Steve Kerr made (I’ve never been upset with Kerr, though). I knew it at the time and i know it now. Like you, I read forum post after post from fans upset with the trade, and I thought, “man, you guys are total idiots”. It’s about time people give Kerr some credit. We are 10-2 and kicking ass. Bout time for our fans to stop being a bunch of pathetic whiny losers.

Callipy, that's a bit harsh
Watching about 60-70 Suns regular season games per season, and every game in the playoffs, I have never ever thought highly of Bell. He had his nights limiting his man’s scoring, and he had nights where he was completely schooled.
If you check the archives you will see my disdain for Bell as a “lockdown defender”. He’s an above-average to good defender who can shoot the 3, but fans overrate him like crazy because of his “attitude” and “tenacity”, which don’t translate well into on-court effectiveness. You can’t really argue with that because it simply didn’t happen. I didn’t see him holding the Kobes and Wades to low FG% and high turnovers. His contests are inadequate because he doesn’t get enough lift and he doesn’t have great length, and they’re often too late to affect the scorer’s shooting rhythm anyway. He’s not athletic enough to deny the ball actively, doesn’t deny the drive all that well either. He was good in his prime, and decent afterwards, but the way fans hype him up it’s like anyone who went against him would shoot 3 of 20 and have 8 turnovers.
Doris is a downright enigma. He would miss/waste the easiest opportunities in the post, and throw the ball away on weird angles and ill-advised passes, only to frustrate you further with flashes of his offensive talent by passing well and scoring efficiently. Then he’d display his versatility by being an excellent perimeter defender AND an excellent defender in the post. Following which he’d kick you in the face by watching opponents drive past him and let small guards get offensive rebounds against him.
He was a roller-coaster ride, I enjoyed it some of the way, but after his fat contract he became far too content to get fat and enjoy life. In my opinion, his inconsistency was pretty damaging to the team given that his teammates would never know whether Boris or Doris would show up. How could your teammates trust you when you turn the ball over at whim, fail to score on post-ups against PGs, and rebound/defend like Amare on a lazy day, especially when they know you are capable of so much more?
http://themeanderingtruth.evony.com/ ve watched, loved, and rooted for the Suns for half my life! I hate smug and hypocritical Laker fans.
