Anyone else feel bad

for Raja going to play for Nellie in Golden State?

Both Teams

are 3-6…so idk there are some good players on the Warriors, and now he gets to live in California haha He’ll get to see the Suns more on the court too!

I think now that Jax is gone, the franchise will be a lot less dysfunctional

And he fits in perfectly there. I just hope Nellie doesn’t jerk him around.

Any chance of him being bought out? I would LOVE to pick him up again…

No

they wont buy him out unless he threatens trouble. He is too good a defender and shooter. Besides, why on earth would we want to sign Raja when we have a glut at the SG/SF position? Answer: we wouldn’t.

I don't see how he could hurt at all

Veteran leadership, Nash’s bff, defense and 3 pt shooting…all positives in my book.

Again...

we have a glut. A guy can’t help that much if he is sitting on the bench the whole game. Raja takes time and shots to get warmed up. If he doesn’t start then he takes minutes from someone who needs just as many minutes to warm up. Cold, Raja is, AT BEST, ineffectual. His defense takes a dive too because he get frustrated. I just dont see the pros out weighing the cons.

Guess our debate has been rendered useless

He’s decided that not playing this season is better than playing for Golden State; he’s opted for season-ending wrist surgery. GS just got owned.

Raja to GS

I don’t know. He played for Nelson before. I do not share this site’s disdain for Don Nelson. Raja is going from one great coach to another great coach. Their styles could not be more different. The crew of talent Nelson has had at GS has always been full of me-first shooters. Try Webber, Davis, Maggette, Jackson, Ellis, the list goes on and on. I suppose those types wear on you after a while. Whereas at Milwaukee and Dallas, he had players a coach could only dream for (Moncrief, Bridgeman, Pressey, Nash, Nowitzki, Finley).

Raja may find that he is just the player Nelson needs – hard working defender who can shoot, but won’t get upset if he doesn’t get the ball enough. He gets to run, while under Poerter and Brown, Raja was just a spot up shooter. Larry Brown gets a talented frontcourt scorer to complemnet Diaw and Wilkins. If I am LB, I am going to use a frontcourt of Diaw at center, and Jax and Diaw at the forwards for a change of pace. I tell you, there are times when Stephen Jackson is unguardable. If anyone can get his head right, it is Brown.

Nelson used to be a great coach.

Now he’s bat-sh!t crazy and more interested in screwing with players than winning.

Agree

Nellie use to know what is going on but take a look of this roster from 2006-2007:
Stephen Jackson, Mike Dunleavy, Baron Davis, Monta Ellis, A. Beidrens, J. Rich, Troy Murphy, Al Harrington,Mikael Pietrus and Matt Barnes.
So Nellie how is that coaching and GM duties working out.
He has done a horrible job in Golden State and IMO he is over rated coach and GM

Oh man, things looking good.

SA 4-4, Lakers 1.5 games out and Kobe a little gimpy. We play the Rockets Tuesday in what needs to be a great game. Can’t lose to them.

We’ve got the best record in the league, which doesn’t mean we’re the best team just the most consistent so far. Neither of our losses can you take anything from. It’d be liking telling a marathon runner to run sprints for six hours before beginning the race.

There’s a lot to be happy about this Monday. I’m gonna enjoy it.

Rox game is going to be hard

Their entire team plays like Amundson and Dudley…freakish amount of heart. Chuck Hayes is a fantastic post defender, and Battier is a great perimeter D. If we don’t come out with energy it’s not going to go our way. If we play the way we’re capable of playing, then I like our chances!

If that's not truth, I don't know what is.

Houston has the most heart in all the NBA. I don’t know if that’s enough to win a championship, but it’s enough to beat us tomorrow night.

question about two teams

Speaking of the Rockets, what do we know about them? My impressions are only that they play good defense but are mediocre offensively, they obviously don’t need Tracy McGrady very badly, and they might not desperately need Yao Ming either. Will the Suns’ offensive power beat them?

I notice that the Suns play the Knicks at the beginning of December. I know they’re bad, but I was wondering if the previous Suns coach/current Knicks coach has tried to make them into a (poor) copy of the Suns.

by species8473 on Nov 16, 2009 10:22 PM MST up reply actions

Rockets fan here.

Houston still plays solid defense, but their rep as a defensive team is mostly based on their play the last few years. We really miss Yao inside. Surprisingly, our offensive rating has been consistently higher than our defensive rating all season.

Houston’s been touting themselves as a “run & gun” team all season, so I’m curious as hell to watch tonight’s game against the crown princes of running. Frankly, I feel that while the Rockets have the ability to beat any team on any night, you guys have the advantage if it’s a full-court game and the Rockets have the (slight) advantage if it’s a half-court game.

Keep your eyes on Chase Budinger (if you haven’t since college): he’s won over the Houston fans and he’s exactly the sort of athletic shooter you would love.

by Moondebah on Nov 17, 2009 8:56 AM MST up reply actions

Not a UofA fan

but I’m rooting for Budinger – he was one of the two AZ college players who I seriously doubted that his game would translate to the NBA – the other being Pendergraph (and so far I haven’t seen anything from him because of his injury… and being the 3rd or 4th or 5th option for Nate McMillan in Portland at his position doesn’t help his cause when he’s healthy.. just ask Frye).

Anyways – I’m glad to see that Chase has found a productive place at Houston, it will be fun to watch him play tonight!

Also – I really hope Houston is lulled into believing they can trade run&gun blows, that is exactly what we want them to do – we just need to put a boot on Aaron Brooks to try and slow that fool down – he’s quick.

Then I’d say put Barbosa on him, but Barbosa doesn’t appear to know how to use his own speed to stop people.

Really? I thought they were a slow team that played tough defense. My mistake. Well, that’s why I asked. I’ve heard that Yao has limited stamina, so whenever he gets back, I would be skeptical of whether he can handle a running game.

If we had gotten 100% from Raja and Nash would he have been fired?

Hard to do a good job getting submarined by two of your “best” players. I remember we started off really hot, and Porter was doing everything right, but then we lost two or three games and guys were jumping ship like rats. I think Gentry is a better coach, but I don’t think poorly of Porter. Just bad luck for him.

I hope this year’s team can handle adversity better than last year’s team. Last year’s team was just childish the way they went on about things.

And because I know I can’t have Dudley and Bell (unless Bell signs for the league minimum if he’s released by the Warriors), if I had to choose one, I’d take Dudley. He’s simply the better player. He’ll be the better player over the course of his career. So it all works out in the end. The baby gets traded for the stud.

I don't think people in Phx disliked Porter as a person

or because of his coaching abilities as much as the fact that he and his style/mentality was the antithesis of what our players are built to do. He was mixing oil with water.

I was ecstatic when he was let go and I wish Porter the best – in fact I felt bad for him when he got fired, that would really suck… but I don’t think he’s complaining about his “severance package”.

Yes, he would have been fired.

It is a failure on the coaches part to be a coach. If he can’t communicate to his players. I’m almost positive it wasn’t such that they completely sat in the corner and pouted with a lip out. If things don’t work out they don’t work out. Did trading them change anything? No? That tells in the very least the problem was just them.

You said “greatest moment…for me,” meaning it’s your favorite. If I might share, my favorite moment in Suns history is either the end of that playoff series or Kevin Johnson dunking on Hakeem Olajuwon. (In my opinion, that, not anything Charles Barkley did, was the high point of the Barkley era.)

by species8473 on Nov 16, 2009 10:47 PM MST up reply actions

Good deal

Suns didn’t really play that great last night and still get the win. Last year this game is a loss.
 Keeping working hard Suns.

by Grockcubs on Nov 16, 2009 3:50 PM MST reply actions

It’s nice to look at the classification and see a 9-2; to be at the top should make us feel dizzy but we all know that the reality is different and that soon we will be in the rightful place (5-6th in the West).

I think that the schedule for the next 9 games is favorable and well might get an 8-1.

However the next 6 games are very difficult and very well could end up with a 0-6.

Well, more stuffs. Houston is a pleasant surprise. The absence of Yao is encouraging the development of other players. Scola is a very good player; he has a 4-5 m shooting range. but mostly he is very good playing in the low post because he has a very good footwork; he is also a player with a great instinct for the rebound and is very aggressive.
Amare has to be intelligent defending him, not being too sticky but not giving him more than 1 m.

The Masses are Taking Notice

I’m not going to act like this is a big deal, either way, but it doesn’t make me happy.

I agree, I’d rather be middle of the pack, peaking at playoff time.
