Miss you, CP3! but with you on the bench resting your f-k'd up ankle we are going to see a lot of Darren Collison and Bobby Brown..

Your loss. Our gain.

While Collison is speedy and athletic and Bobby Brown has a cool name I don't see this combo having any impact on Nash's ability to get all Nashty on National TV.

Coming off a 2 for 10 game in Houston I don't think I am going out on a thin limb by calling Steve Nash the PPOG.

This game is already a failure.

I don’t care if the Suns win. No way this Hornets team should be up 9 on Phoenix. Ever. The Suns can’t keep waiting for Jared Dudley to take the floor before showing some spark. Starter FAIL.

One team wants it

Looks like the Hornets want this game. Seems like they have something to prove. Suns on the other hand…not so much. Killed on the boards, giving Peja open looks, gotta get it under control.

It’s like these teams get ready to play the Suns and remember how we used to be, and get fired up to play a bad defensive team, then when their fire cools and they realize that, no, these Suns are different, the spaceship has already cruised by at near light speed and it’s the fourth quarter the Suns win again.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Our rebounding looks turrible, Amare looks slow, and our defense, as has been the case ever since we traded Marion, BLOWS. No excuse for this loss.

We've outrebounded most teams we've played.

It’s one bad game. I think a lot of you should take a deep breath and temper your expectations. We’re either an overrated 10-3, or had a fluke game. We’ll find out Sunday against Detroit. Either way, this game doesn’t mean a whole lot. They had a clear emotional edge because of our prior beat down. They were at home. They had an unheard of advantage on the offensive boards. They outhustled us and barely won, even though we still controlled much of the game from the middle of the first to the middle of the fourth. I know it wasn’t the 148-61 drubbing you all expected, but we’ll be fine, or we’ll lost a lot more games than just this one and likely no one will remember New Orleans on November 19, 2009.

I totally disagree with you that our defense was better before Marion was traded. We simply have different views of what defense is supposed to be. Good defensive teams aren’t made up of one great defensive player surrounded by mediocore to shit defenders.

And the excuses don’t matter. It’s not why we lost, but THAT we lost, and this is a good loss because it’ll refocus Nash and co. I think it’s a much better loss for that purpose than either the Magic or Laker losses.

Fanaticism is not logical

by SunDolphin on Nov 19, 2009 9:27 PM MST up reply actions

KT, Boris, Raja

Mediocre defenders? Our team defense was fifth without Amare in the lineup, because we had four guys protecting Nash. KT got injured in Jan 06, then our defense went down. We were 13-17 when D’Antoni was here(w/ Marion). Last season we were bottom five. This season we’re bottom 10. I don’t see how you our defense is better when it’s statistically NOT.

And yeah I think we're an overrated 10-3

Those are good points, but I just don't buy into it.

IMO KT and Raja were solid defenders but their defense never benefited the team. Two guys on a team of 7 guys that actually get playing time don’t make the team a defensive juggernaut. We could have been first in defense without Amare, but the problem is, we had Amare. Nash has always been a defensive liability, but to take him off the court would make the Suns an offensive failure. I think Boris Diaw was one of the most overrated players we had. The talent was obviously there, just as the performance obviously wasn’t.

What I’ve seen in 10 wins this season isn’t 140-point run and gun shootouts, but fourth quarter defense that gets us the W. I agree that this 10-3 may be overrated, but not if we continue playing the TEAM defense (not individual defense) that we’ve been playing.

If TEAM defensive is the new Suns, we’ll be much better, even without KT or Boris. They could only gaurd one guy at a time, anyway, so what good did it do if they guarded Kobe or Duncan only to have Nash or Amare or someone else give up 2 or 3 points elsewhere on the court?

But you're weighing your subjective opinion over tangible statistical proof

Under Mike, we were always very highly ranked in opp FG%; now we’re bottom 10 in that too. Regardless of whether or not you think Boris was overrated, or KT and Raja could only guard one guy at a time, what matters is that in terms of points allowed and FG%, we are a much, much worse defensive team today than we were even two years ago. I think that our 4th quarter D has been a revelation, but unless we get back into the 15ish range(instead of the 20ish range that we’re at right now, and the 25ish range that we were last year), we’re not going to be able to make any noise.

It's definitely subjective with me.

You’re right about that. I agree that we need to get much, much better defensively, like top 10. It wasn’t enough before, with KT and co. It won’t be enough now. But I do see improvements, steps in the right direction. There will be steps in the wrong direction every once in a while, but they are needed to keep the team focused on what the goal is. Better happen now than next spring.

seriously! why cant we bleepity win a bleepity game on bleepity TNT?

Because a nationally televised game to the Suns is just another game.

But the teams we play get jacked up because they’re on national television.

On the positive side, the Suns are still ahead of everyone except the Hawks. However, such a missed opportunity here.

Tough Love

Eh, it always sucks to lose, especially to a team we should beat…but…we are 10-3, which if you look around the league I’d take in a heartbeat, plus the Suns need to learn to take it seriously from the 1st quarter and not rely on come-from-behind heroics.

I wonder how many times this year the Suns were outscored in the first quarter?

by jburning on Nov 19, 2009 8:56 PM MST reply actions

I would guess it’s been the majority of the time. This time, while good at finishing, seems poor at starting.

by jburning on Nov 19, 2009 8:56 PM MST up reply actions

That is just eye-opening…the starters need to focus on this and I hope Gentry pounds this fact into their brains. We can NOT play catch-up from the 1st quarter.

The good old wagony

by AcucracK on Nov 19, 2009 9:45 PM MST up reply actions

I'm certainly not off the Suns bandwagon....

…but I’m jumping out of Barbosa’s. Has anyone else noticed how much of a ballhog he’s become? How many times did he pass tonight? No, not assist – pass? EVERY time he gets the ball he puts his head down to drive or takes an ill-advised shot. Remember the 2-on-1 fastbreak with Dragic that he completely blew? I don’t know how you can play for so long under Nash and still not realize that he has to dump the ball off. I’m not just piling on after this game, either. He’s been doing this all season; we just haven’t lost, so I haven’t felt the need to complain. But after a game like this, where every possession was crucial? He would be sitting at the end of my bench. When did he decide to change his name to Leandro Bryant?

by Silkster on Nov 19, 2009 9:43 PM MST reply actions

He's got 2 injured wrists

Still not back to 100% and he never has been much of pass first kind of guy.

I think hes more butt hurt that hes not playing minutes with Nash and he needs to get over it. He wont be playing many minutes with Nash especially since he obviously has not got his shot back too 100%

by AcucracK on Nov 19, 2009 9:47 PM MST up reply actions

I know he's injured...

…and that’s exactly why he needs to chill out for a little bit. He just doesn’t pass. At all. I was watching the game with a friend, and every time Leandro got the ball, I told him, “Watch Barbosa take this shot.” And every time, I was right. Being completely honest, the only time I remember Barbosa passing the ball was on a play where he got stuck and flipped the ball out to Dudley, who missed his first three. Love LB’s humility, but I can’t stand his game right now.

by Silkster on Nov 19, 2009 9:52 PM MST up reply actions

the blown layup – think its the wrist. if it is bothering him, they should have given him a longer break.

by Larfleeze on Nov 19, 2009 9:48 PM MST up reply actions

-1 to all of that.

A healthy Barbosa makes that shot. Don’t forget that he made a great steal on the other end. Yeah, he SHOULD have passed it to Dragic in hindsight, but I’ve never seen Leandro miss a wide open layup before, until then.

Fanaticism is not logical

by SunDolphin on Nov 20, 2009 7:14 AM MST up reply actions

Haha, nice try except...

For his career, Kobe averages more assists per 36 minutes than Barbosa.

And that was TWO missed lay-ups. His game was all kinds of off tonight.

Bright side of this loss

Dudley lights out from 3pt range. Suns lost and they know why. Keep the suns and the fans in check… we have the best record, it does not mean were going to blow out the nets.

Suns should have won this game but they didn’t. Still early in the season theres a lot more work to be done.

I know

Let’s let Dudley launch off 7 three pointers like Frye got tonight!

DANG

I was all upset that I missed this game because of class… but I guess it was a good one to miss.

Sorry I wasn’t in the thread – I should be next time!

I think its a good ‘slap-in-the-face’ loss. Keep us humble…
