Preview and Game Thread: Suns @ Wizards
Phoenix Suns at Washington Wizards, Nov 8, 2009 11:00 AM MST
This game worries me.
The Suns are coming off a big emotional win while the Wizards got their butts kicked by the Pacers 86-102 which lead to a team tirade with Agent Zero firing off this chemistry building barb, "We have a team where everybody thinks they should be playing," he said. "And when you have a team like that, you have bitter players on the sideline."
Just a shot in the dark here but I am guessing he's talking to Nick Young, Andray Blatche, DeShawn Stevenson and JaVale McGee and not to Fabricio Oberto who's started all six games.
Reading through these reports from the Wizards camp you see a team in early disarray that is struggling with more than injuries (Jamison, Miller and Crittenton).
With all this going on there's a good chance they will respond with fire in today's game and come out guns blazing. Or maybe they will continue their Iverson like pouting and continue to implode. Either way, it's a statement game from the Wiz and not so much for the Suns. That worries me. That and the early start which has long been a problem for the Suns.
Reading through various previews and reports the one note that caught me eye was the possibility that Randy Foye would start in the back court with Arenas. Foye is having a decent season so far and is a capable player but he's far too small to guard Richardson so look for the Suns to try and exploit that match-up.
On the front line Haywood and Blatche are not Howard and Gortat but those guys are still big and physical and are going to give Frye, Amare and Amundson fits on the glass.
A pissed off Gilbert. A big front line. An early start. This game worries me.

Early start blues
Yes, last season the Cards weren’t the only valley team that struggled with early game times on the east coast. This could easily be a letdown game for the Suns.
Hopefully they recognize the importance of winning the winnable games this early in the season and can wipe the sleep out of their eyes and take care of business. The Wiz aren’t a cupcake by any stretch but they are beatable.

Good points. Still, this is a game where a team’s bench can provide a spark. I am confident our bench will be help out. Having LB active would make it even better. Anyone know if he’s playing?
ITS GAMETIME!!!!
anybody see that TC answered one of my tweet questions? haha
They say "don't swim with the sharks", but I'm faster than sharks so it's not a big deal...
How many is that for you now?

Looks like Foye is starting over Young
http://www.bulletsforever.com/2009/11/8/1121519/phoenix-suns-vs-washington-wizards
Flip Saunders said he’s going with Randy Foye tonight in the starting lineup instead of Nick Young. Why Foye? “He gives us a little more offense and consistency when he’s on the floor,” Saunders said. Saunders clearly was referencing Young’s shortcomings when he talked about the consistency Foye brings.

This is one of those games
where the 3’s aren’t falling and the Wiz are packing it in…if the Suns were making 50% of those this game would already be over.

yeah
lets see if the bench can pick up the pace

Arenas just put in the first quarter dagger -
They say "don't swim with the sharks", but I'm faster than sharks so it's not a big deal...
I don't think our shooting will continue to be this bad
Plus – we’re not pushing the ball – the pace is too slow
we need to pick it up and stop missing shots !!! :)

I expected Lou and Dudley

wow was a sequence
Wiz miss two gimmies and Dragic delivers
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
i love dragic's play this season.
makes me not regret believing in him/sticking up for him with friends.
if anything, he’ll be a good backup, which is exactly what we need right now.
it is my first game this year, and it is so nice to see such great hustle on 2nd unit… and amare great on defense, I thought I would never see that….
it crazy right?
this team is really fun to watch this year
They say "don't swim with the sharks", but I'm faster than sharks so it's not a big deal...
richardson is a man on a mission.
after that stinker in orlando, he looks like he’s out for blood.
too bad our defense isn’t looking great right now.
Today is really sloppy
Jrich looks good though
They say "don't swim with the sharks", but I'm faster than sharks so it's not a big deal...

than the Suns right now…turnovers…effort. Bleh
Suns staying in it but don’t like this game right now at all

They say "don't swim with the sharks", but I'm faster than sharks so it's not a big deal...
JRich is crazy man!!! after that orlando game, I was thinking on scenarios for a trade :-)
but defense is soft now, LB is allowing his guy to penetrate and create problems…
richardson is invaluable to this system.
this is the system he was made to play, and with his added focus on defense, we should keep him. i really like him this season, even with that terrible orlando game.

Why do the refs let players hit the ball or pick it up and throw it to the them after they score..
That pisses me off. It stops us from being able to run after a make and it should be a delay of game.
The players do it on purpose to slow us down
They say "don't swim with the sharks", but I'm faster than sharks so it's not a big deal...
I know but rule is that it should be a delay of game.
Not that referees actually go by the book in the NBA. Its ridiculous.
this game is getting almost as frustrating to watch as the orlando game.
at least we’re only down 2.
told you I was worried about this one
lucky to be in it…lucky we are playing the Wizards that is :)

Grant Hill
is missing a ton of easy shots…including free throws…at least he rebounding and playing D
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
just look at the differing style of play.
suns vs. wizards at halftime: 56 – 51, suns leading.
76er’s vs. pistons at halftime: 43 – 37, pistons leading.
What a difference
between Boston and this Wizards team on D. …they are not good
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
what a difference
between how we’re playing against this wizards team and how we played against boston.
it seems like a couple players might be realizing the wiz defense isn’t as good as boston’s, so they’re not playing with as much urgency.
maybe that’s just me, though.
by Trevor Paxton on Nov 8, 2009 12:14 PM MST up reply actions
i'll take that
against a generally much larger front line.

Did you see Frye
block out Haywood on that one? He did a great job getting his ass into the big fella and letting Amare get the rebound
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
lol @ the wizards dancers.
put them next to the suns dancers, and they’d look like the redheaded stepchild of NBA dance teams.
13 assists for Nash already! 12 boards for Hill and 9 for Amare!
Lets hope the bench can come in and play the way they’ve shown they can.
This is the JRich
I’ve been waiting for…he really can take over a game and if he’s doing that 2 or 3 out of ever 5 games that’s really going to save wear and tear on Nash
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
Love that slow motion
break from Nash…he just skipped his way all the way to the rim
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
not quite sure...
i’m sure they’ll turn it around, though. it can’t keep up this poorly for the whole season. not with the players we have.

If Barbosa learned how to use his left hand on those left-ward drives instead of his right, he'd average like 4 more points a game

Just arriving
and no links to watch (the feed is broken)
What are your feelings about the game? +9? It seems good
Enjoying the bright side!
1st half was ugly
w/ 15 or 16 turnovers but much better in the 2nd half.
JRich abusing Foye or Arenas or whoever is guarding him
Amare playing a smart game
Wizards aren’t very good
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
Thanks for the summary
If only I could watch!
Even if Wash are not so good, a back to back road win with a win over Boston is quite interesting (and new!)
Enjoying the bright side!
Got to love
Arenas calling out his teammates and then following that w/ a pretty crappy game
6 for 18

I consider Barbosa as our 6th starter :)
