Anybody see Brent Barry ripping on John Schuhmann for his NBA.com power rankings?

Mostly because the Suns were #1 on his list?

Not that I necessarily agree with them being #1, but i’m sure he would have been ok with it if the Spurs and their 2-3 record were in the top 5 instead.

So far so good

Richardson and Frye spreading the floor

by southern oregon on Nov 9, 2009 5:18 PM MST reply actions

were shooting 3's

and theyre getting dunks, i dont like it

by IrrationalAgent on Nov 9, 2009 5:23 PM MST reply actions

Yup..

not saying he shouldnt be taking them. Just that he needs to slow down a little.

by brian13 on Nov 9, 2009 5:28 PM MST up reply actions

Frye needs to watch out

he cant get too comfy with that 3. He’ll start to depend on it and it’ll really hurt the days it dont work. He needs to play more inside. Right now, everyone knows he’s going to be out there. Teams are going to play him based on that. He needs to focus more on the paint and the glass than the arc.

this atdhe cast is killing me

I’m either gonna go read a book, or pay 100 bucks for nba league pass

I got it

4th season in a row. I was strongly considering not getting it, but after one game without it and sitting in here reading and posting…I had to get it.

by KnowGood on Nov 9, 2009 5:30 PM MST up reply actions

me too

 I figure for $160.. i dont mind paying 2 bucks a game.

by brian13 on Nov 9, 2009 5:33 PM MST up reply actions

2 bucks a Suns game, that is

Not to mention you get all the other teams.

by brian13 on Nov 9, 2009 5:34 PM MST up reply actions

Good drive by Dragic..

And he gets a nice call from it.

by brian13 on Nov 9, 2009 5:35 PM MST reply actions

Rodney Carney is one of the fastest players in the league?

Why does every team think they have the fastest player in the league? It seems like every team we play, the other teams announcers like to compare one of their players to Barbosa as far as speed.

by brian13 on Nov 9, 2009 5:41 PM MST reply actions

Can't decide

Are the Suns being too hesitant to push the ball or is Philly’s transition D that good?

by Mike Lisboa on Nov 9, 2009 5:45 PM MST reply actions

And not hitting our jumpers too…

I like the guy and I like parts of his game bu I don’t like when players think they don’t have to go inside anymore because they hit a few 3 a few games back.
If you’re dry from outside, go inside.

are they kidding right now?

None of them are THAT good of shooters..

by brian13 on Nov 9, 2009 5:54 PM MST reply actions

I put the struggle down to Philly hitting everything and we’re hitting not much. We’re gonna have these nights though.
Hopefully we’ll pick it up in the 3rd but if we don’t, meh. The season isn’t built on this one game.

by keify34 on Nov 9, 2009 5:57 PM MST reply actions

Have to credit the Philly D

They’re picking pockets, cutting off passing lanes and denying the paint. Jumpers aren’t falling for the Suns, hence the ugly start.

By the way, now might be a good time for Alvin Gentry to come up with some kind of back-to-back offense the Suns can go to to help the old guys.

by Mike Lisboa on Nov 9, 2009 5:58 PM MST reply actions

Wow..

we gotta start playing some defense.

by brian13 on Nov 9, 2009 6:00 PM MST reply actions

Philly is getting all they want. Our D is like something out of NBA Live 09 – guys stand around while someone drives coast to coast.

by keify34 on Nov 9, 2009 6:02 PM MST reply actions

I guess we are back to good old 60+ pts allowed per half… and it is disgusting… no intensity on D

by zeze_999 on Nov 9, 2009 6:02 PM MST reply actions

If Grant is gonna continue to play like he did in ‘97, he’s gonna wanna grow that goatee beard back too.

pardon my language, but seriously. I thought I knew ye.

Already 4 turnovers for Nash.

by Scott Howard on Nov 9, 2009 6:06 PM MST reply actions

jrich just looking while AI shots over him… not trying to make it tougher…he is great on offensive side, but come on… philly guards penetrate so easily… it is really disgusting… let’s see if AG can turn it around in the locker…

by zeze_999 on Nov 9, 2009 6:10 PM MST reply actions

JRich is the only reason we're in the game

I dont like saying that, cause I’m not big on the dude. But really, if his 3s werent dropping, we’d be dropping.

by KnowGood on Nov 9, 2009 6:11 PM MST reply actions

UGLY. We look tired and there doesn’t look to be any of the hustle we’ve already grown accustomed to this season.

We’re losing out on rebounds we should be winning, loose balls are going to Philly and even the wild shots that Philly are throwing up are going in. Just plain UGLY.

by keify34 on Nov 9, 2009 6:11 PM MST reply actions

Well kinda say the letdown coming

I know it’s only halftime, but this just had the feel of a letdown game. Still happy with the road trip overall though.

"Yeah I could have been king, but maybe I already am king. Hail to the king baby." Ash from Army of Darkness

by Turambar on Nov 9, 2009 6:12 PM MST reply actions

cant knock the trip

we did say we expected to come home 3-2. We just expected those losses to come from Orlando and Boston. Beating Boston shouldnt be an excuse to lose this one. We should be winning this game.

Dudes need to spend the half taking a quick nap or something.

by KnowGood on Nov 9, 2009 6:14 PM MST up reply actions

A list of things to do for the second half:

Deny Philly penetration.
Hustle. Hustle. Hustle.
Go more to J-Rich.
Go more to Grant.

But like Turamba says, we’re disappointed because we’re 3-2 on this trip rather than 4-1. I never thought that would have happened, so overall I’m still happy.

It’s been a great start to the season.

by keify34 on Nov 9, 2009 6:14 PM MST reply actions

Relax

We’re only down by 12…. I’m sure AG will make the necessary adjustments during halftime :D……..

Whats up doc?

by RottPhiler on Nov 9, 2009 6:16 PM MST reply actions

Came in at the end of the 1st quarter

Thoughts:

1) On both ends, the Suns look a step slow…

2) …unless Nash is finding them for an easy bucket. 9 first half dimes is not too shabby…

3) … unless paired with 4 turnovers. I’ll take it though.

4) Philly is simply on fire. I’m hoping those jumpers don’t continue to fall…

5) …and the Suns defensive effort picks up. Can’t just give away open looks.

I have a feeling Gentry is going to give a “2nd game of back-to-backs are no excuse” halftime speech. Because 8 games in, the Suns need to decide if this is how it’s going to be or if they can find a way to get crafty and gut these games out.

by Mike Lisboa on Nov 9, 2009 6:16 PM MST reply actions

RottPhiler is positive.

by keify34 on Nov 9, 2009 6:17 PM MST reply actions

I’m still confident that Philly won’t continue to shoot the lights out in the 2nd half. They’ll start missing jumpers, so we’ve gotta force them to take more and drive less.

Oh and the thing none of us have mentioned- Amare. He needs to step it up in a big way.

by keify34 on Nov 9, 2009 6:18 PM MST reply actions

agreed, Amare looks clueless out there.

by Larfleeze on Nov 9, 2009 6:21 PM MST up reply actions

I know this is borderline irrelevant right now but I think a few of these types of games together with a handful of losses and we’ll see where Amare’s head is really at. Personally, I feel like if we don’t win at least 55 games and compete in 95% of them, he’ll be off.

by keify34 on Nov 9, 2009 6:25 PM MST up reply actions

they won’t stop hitting unless we make it harder for them… it reminds me of last 4 years when some teams would look like champions on us, scoring 120 on our D

by zeze_999 on Nov 9, 2009 6:21 PM MST up reply actions

Exactly

Their FG% – 26/43 – 0.605 is way higher than usual…Its just a hot shooting half from Philly, a couple of adjustments here and there and I bet it’ll come back to normal…. :-)

More on Amar'e

The hesitation at the elbow bothers me a little, but the pause and re-group method helped him get a couple of nice deuces in the paint just now. He’s thinking more.

looks like preseason game…

we play “score point more” in this one, rather than “allow point less”… I’ll take W in any case, but we need to change our mentality…

by zeze_999 on Nov 9, 2009 6:36 PM MST reply actions

Disagree

He should have shot as soon as he received the ball instead of hesitating. Of course, then he goes and bombs away and misses. But he should have the green light until his shot falls off (49% this season).

by Mike Lisboa on Nov 9, 2009 6:45 PM MST up reply actions

Yeah but you're right

If he gets it, shoot immediately, but if he has to hesitate to get better looks he’s better off passing back to Nash…

Dragic/Amar'e P'N'R

If they’re going to put Amar’e in with the second line, this needs to be worked on in practice. Dragic is a big enough offensive threat to make this very potent weapon.

Schuhmann has us as number 1.

Who would have thought we would be #1 in the Power Rankings two weeks into the season? Now, we are considered, “The Team to Beat” by many people’s standards.

Damnit!

This scares me. We are already getting media attention, and way too soon in my opinion. I thought we were going to have the luxury of being a dark horse this season. These guys have been playing great flying under the radar, and the fickle media is warming up to us way way way too soon. Number 1 in the Power Rankings? Does Schuhmann really think we are a contender?? Whoa, whoa, whoa, lets slow down a minute. I don’t want anybody setting their expectations too high. I still do not think we can hang with the heavyweights. Especially in a 7 game series. I don’t want our boys feeling too much pressure.

I will be at the Suns/Lakers Game this Thursday. I might get my ass kicked if the Suns pull this one out…Gasol and Bynum will both most likely be in uniform for this game. This game is going to be a true test….and a very hard game to win…we better be on fire.

by DaMax85 on Nov 9, 2009 8:41 PM MST reply actions

Goods points DaMax

It will be a very difficulty game — and more so than normal since the Lakers will be sitting on three days rest and we will be coming off a game the night before with the quick, elusive Hornets. The dam NBA league office did that to us last year too if I remember right (the first away game against Lakers was 2nd half of back to back games).

I am thinking about writing a post about what I expect strategically in Thursday’s game. Of course, we as fans definitely will not overlook the Hornets.

by Jack Frost on Nov 9, 2009 9:31 PM MST up reply actions

I didn't even realize we have New Orleans on Wednesday!

What kind of schedule is that?? Another back-to-back?! I figured after our east coast road trip we would have two days off before LA.

by DaMax85 on Nov 10, 2009 12:10 PM MST up reply actions

I agree man...I love being under the radar!

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

by rsavaj on Nov 9, 2009 10:20 PM MST up reply actions

Question is

Will bad teams play us harder because we appear average and they can smell a win, or will bad teams play us harder because they think we’re the Lakers and want the challenge? Or will bad teams simply fold because they think they know they don’t have a chance because people are hot on us and we’re hot on ourselves?

Don’t have to worry about the good teams. The Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Magic are going to play us hard no matter what our record is or what others say about us. When we play the Lakers, I think we’d get their best game whether we’re 82-0 or 0-82.
