Matt Moore's Suns - Knicks Game Preview
Get D’Antoni Some Pampers
Phoenix Suns @ New York Knicks – 7:30 pm EST

Nash vs. D’Antoni is always good times. Not in the sense that this will be a competitive — or even well-played — game. But in the sense that Mike gets to stomp around the sidelines all game while watching the NBA equivalent of his ex-wife make him look terrible. He gets to twirl his mustache while thinking "Geez, how did we all let that Suns thing get so messed up? Why didn’t we nurture Joe Johnson and keep him around? Why was Shawn Marion such a baby? And why couldn’t I get along with the front office? And, for the love of god, why did I not wait until after I found out the Bulls got Derrick Rose before signing with the Knicks? Imagine me and DRose? Imagine all the people? Imagine there’s no country? It’s easy if you try." Then he openly sobs on the sideline. Then Steve Nash gets his 23rd assist. Then D’Antoni wets himself. Then Nash laughs like only a Canadian can laugh. Eh.

LET'S NBA!

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

Worst Case Scenario

That was a Murphy’s Law kind of half. The Knicks were crazy hot, especially from outside. The Suns were cold from 3 point land. Nash and Amare had 7 turnovers.

I could see them righting the ship in the second half for sure, but letting the Knicks in this game at all was bad news. Gallinari is (or is becoming) a stone cold killer. A hot Rooster is a tough cover.

Contributor: Bright Side of the Sun Twitter: @MikeLisboa

by Mike Lisboa on Dec 1, 2009 6:50 PM MST reply actions

Exactly.

The Knicks are not at all playing like their normally do. Is it just me, or do the Suns encounter a lot of these “normally incompetent team is suddenly fantastic” games?

by jburning on Dec 1, 2009 6:53 PM MST up reply actions

It's a product of our "defense"

Like how every point guard seems to have a career night when they have Nash guarding them….

by Chucko on Dec 1, 2009 6:56 PM MST up reply actions

I actually blame lane penetration

less on Nash and more on our bigs. Nash tries, at least, and takes charges consistently. The bigs have historically failed to cut off driving lanes.

by jburning on Dec 1, 2009 6:57 PM MST up reply actions

Nash plays a weird D

He knows he’s small and not that quick. So he’ll play his man as tight as possible, but once his man gets past him, he goes straight to a zone and hopes the bigs can take care of it.

I really blame some poor offensive planning for the bad start.

Instead of playing their game, the Suns went to the J-Rich iso/mis-match against Duhon right off the bat. They went with what they thought would work instead of what has been working. I think it threw off their rhythm and they’ve struggled ever since.

Look for them to come out with some serious ball movement in their half-court sets to start the 3rd. Play your game, Phoenix. It’s what got you here.

and to think I was pissed that I couldn’t make it to this game. I’d be pissed tenfold if I was there.

And we didn’t get it to 15 by the 4th so now we have no chance. No surprise there.

I'm telling you guys

Dudley’s defense has been off for several games now…he’s just not in position

Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan

by Seth Pollack on Dec 1, 2009 7:28 PM MST reply actions

He overcommits on his man and his positioning is off but his intensity and hustle is still top notch. I’d rather that than Frye’s version of defense where he gets beaten in the post frequently and commits lazy fouls.

Dudley’s defense has been blown out of all proportion because his game has been such a breath of fresh air to us that we’ve overlooked his mistakes.

by keify34 on Dec 1, 2009 7:33 PM MST up reply actions

nah

I mean I agree about the hustle but last year what was impressive was how smart his positioning was on D….now it seems like he’s trying to do too much and leaving him man too easily and getting lost

to be honest

the refs have been very inconsistent tonight. it’s not why we are losing but i think Gentry needed to get on them a little bit

not that it’s gonna make any difference

Getting on the refs…At least someone has some passion tonight….too little too late, of course

what can we get from this game?

Are there any positives to take away from this? Clark and Lopez get time and become more familiar? It makes us wanna bounce back strong against an elite team? I’m looking for something…anything.

The Knicks have taken 21 more shots than the Suns.
