Nash is going to ASG no matter what

the coaches will definitely pick him. McGrady probably took Deron Williams spot…

It’d be ironic/hilarious/sad if McGrady makes his season debut on the ASG.

What can you say about McGrady when even the Rockets, who are paying him $23M this year, doesn’t want him to play?

Grant Hill is totally the next MJ!!

Random Idea

Maybe we can improve all star voting like this:

Every time before you vote, you have the option to answer a set of 5 or 10 trivia questions on NBA.com. Questions can range from “Which of the following teams drafted Kevin Garnett?” to “Whose forehead did Jason Richardson bounced a basketball off of in the 2003 Rookie/Sophmore game?”

And the more questions you get correct, the more weight the vote you’d have.

Of course this is not foolproof. But I think this can make the “blind” votes count less, and the more educated/devoted/engaged fans’ votes count more.

Grant Hill is totally the next MJ!!

good idea

I’d add to that…out of country can’t vote…and I’m talking to you china..fu#@ off!!
Hell, they’ll probably get away with getting yao ming as one of the top vote getters and he wouldve already retired. The Mcgrady thing is really crazy. Should be a rule…must play in 70% of the games leading up to the start of the voting or your not eligible.

Plus one vote per legitimate email.

While I’m at it…I’d love a disneyland in Phoenix…preferably the far west side. And a few of those great wolf lodges…that’d be nice…

If you are going to call the NBA winners the "world champions"....

then you have no right to be pissed off at other countries voting.
Aussies are going to vote for Bogut, Brazillians for Barbosa, etc… just cos there happens to be a lot of Chinese ppl does not mean their votes shouldn’t count.
It’s part of the NBA’s intention of taking the game onto the world stage.
I’m more surprised that Yi Jianlin isn’t headding the votes.

I’m pretty sure your post was in jest tho…

by Chucko on Dec 10, 2009 10:40 PM MST up reply actions

The "world champion" thing

doesn’t have anything to do with the countries voting. Just because a team is the best in the world, doesnt mean a certain country has to vote for their country’s shitty player to make the all-star game.

by brian13 on Dec 11, 2009 2:26 AM MST up reply actions

You missed the point.

How many teams are from countries not named America? 1, the raptors. and they don’t count cos they suck.
How many teams from the other 179 countries in the world? 0
So how exactly is the winner of the NBA crowned “World” champion?

But back to the topic, The All Star game is for the fans, it’s not voting for the MVP, or defensive player of the year, or anything like that. it just means you, as a fan, wants to see that player play in the all star game.
if a billion chinese guys want to see TMac, then that’s who should go in the all star game, no matter how much of a gimp he is.

I think we should do the same thing

for a presidential election. Not trying to start a firestorm, but It is clear many voted last time because of a person’s appearance, not his experience or abilities.

i hope you’re not trying to make the argument that Obama won because he’s black.

by brian13 on Dec 11, 2009 12:47 PM MST up reply actions

I think the arguement

is that he won b/c he didn’t look like the walking dead

No, of course not

He won because people wanted something different, and people wanted to do something that had never been done before, regardless of the record, or in McGrady’s case, (lack of) on court play.

I'd be pretty shocked

If McGrady actually accepts the spot.

by hcblankscreen on Dec 10, 2009 10:03 PM MST reply actions

I wouldn’t. McGrady would chalk it up to “not letting the fans down.” I guess this would be the only way he could not let fans down, seeing as how he’s never won a playoff series.

This season's All-Star game is definitely a joke

Aaron Brooks has more votes than, Chauncey Billups, Brandoy Roy & Deron Williams. If one of our bench players (let’s say, RoLo) where playing in Houston he’d probably be an all-star. The privileges of playing alongside Yao…..

by Spit_Fire on Dec 11, 2009 12:19 AM MST reply actions

Houston players

get the benefit of all those Chinese voters. It has been that way since Yao entered the league. Many of these fans only know about the Rox.

Tmac should not be there

Especially ahead of Dwill, Ellis, Roy, Billups, Brooks, Manu, or anyone! He hasn’t even played. And sorry Suns fans but Amare shouldn’t be so high since he is not rebounding at all this year especially if he’s voted in as a center.

Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

Seriously, how in the hell is he even included in the ballot? He hasn’t played a single game this season and he still gets onto the ballot. It’s a farce and a travasty and whoever put together the ballot should be fired.

Play today, win today, ‘das it.

by noonoo on Dec 11, 2009 1:15 AM MST via mobile reply actions

The ballot is done

in October before the season starts…and it is done by a panel of media types btw. Here’s an explanation:

I am thinking they should chuck the paper ballots all together or not start voting until mid Dec at least

Chucking paper ballots

I’d be curious to see what percentage of the votes is done via paper. I’m guessing less than 5. If that’s the case, then please, NBA, embrace the brave new paperless world and convene your panel a couple months into the season to reflect a more current and accurate look at All-Star candidacy.

Yeah

I remember growing up and going to games and voting maybe 4 or 5 times using the paper ballots at the games. But since the internet voting has come out i’ve definitely voted more than that. Its pretty ridiculous having McGrady on the ballot and stuff like that happens every year.

by brian13 on Dec 11, 2009 12:51 PM MST up reply actions

My question

Is why can you vote more than once?

Of course, it would be very difficult to enforce that.

I did not know that… that’s even dumber than what I originally thought.
