Suns guard Jason Richardson is not on the active roster for tonight's game in Portland in hopes that his sprained right hand can fully heel with two more days off before Saturday's game. Goran Dragic will start at off-guard in place of Richardson, putting the Brandon Roy defensive duties on Grant Hill. Jared Dudley probably will be the first off the bench and Dragic will have to leave the game and return to man the backup point guard minutes.

And my first first.
This game is ours I can smell it. Smells like napalm in the morning. At least that will be the Blazers tomorrow after we scorch them.

Why Pop is a genius.
Gregg Popovich would have called a time-out when the Blazers got within 3, drawn up a simple play to get an easy bucket and stop the bleeding and get his guys chilled out. I honestly don’t know why more coaches don’t do that instead of letting the opposing team’s run go on one bucket too long.

Because Pop is an elite coach
There’s a handful of them in the league. Figure Pop, Phil, who else?

That's it.
I have to exclued Sloan solely based on the lack of rings, but I contend that if he coached in a major market, he probably would have gotten one by now.

ARGH
to me the biggest thing has been our inability (or refusal) to defend the 3 point line. if it wasnt for that they wouldnt even be in this game. so frustrating.
but i believe we can pull this out. LETS GO SUN!
Well i hate to say it, but the TNT curse lives on

SOLID D
dont look for the foul and play the clock….play the tightest D you can. Full court pressure, hands in the face, everything.
I'd look for the foul
if they can get it into the right persons hands.
We save time, and if they only hit 1/2 then we can tie with a 3.

perhaps you should move here

Amare on the bench?
Gentry just outsmarted himself.
Contributor: Bright Side of the Sun Twitter: @MikeLisboa
Really? Amar'e on the bench on defense makes total sense
He’s got about the same defensive impact on the floor or off it.

I'm sorry
But Lou Amundson on the floor in crunch time does not have the Suns a better chance at winning.

do the Suns
realize games are four quarters long?
another epic second half breakdown…all the excuses, short-handed, foul trouble, blah blah blah…the truth is we can’t defend and our offense too often becomes stagnant with big leads.
we just don’t have a killer instinct
I think I'll do my utmost to avoid TNT Suns games from now are.

This. 100% this.
In a vaccum a close loss to the Blazers on the road w/o J-Rich/LB isn’t bad – but when you have a 13 point 4th quarter lead that means bad loss.

except for that ill-timed turn-around jump hook that was so completely unnecessary
by ArizonaCactus on Dec 17, 2009 11:32 PM MST up reply actions
I think...
That Gentry was trying to force things to him and told him to score (not that I was in the huddle) and this cause Amare to force that shot…should have stuck with the 2 man game because Amare was banging on the boards if he didn’t get the ball on the roll
Not discreditting the Blazers at all
they played fantastic ball. I just expect us to play much better than we did. I mean, we took care of business and played really good….most of the time….not all of the time. Not when it mattered most, thats for sure.
I can live with losses. But the frequent mental breakdowns are unforgivable.

I can't stand watching Steve Nash lose
No matter what team he plays against, with the obvious exception of mine.
Anyone want to blame this one on the refs?
Anyone? Cuz it looked a lot like the Denver meltdown to me. And the numbers are nearly the same too. And the Suns’ second half play.
Contributor: Bright Side of the Sun Twitter: @MikeLisboa
there was a game against Denver
must’ve blocked it out :)

when our guys get open three's
it’s b/c of our offense…when they get open three’s it’s b/c we aren’t staying home on shooters?
please. The Suns D was great for most of this game. They had to suck in to stop penetration from Bayless and Roy which leaves shooters open just like when Nash draws help.
It’s basketball
Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan
understood
but maybe not leave Bayless open….If Martell Webster beats us, fine, so be it. If Steve Blake beats us, fine, so be it….But not the guy that’s been keeping the other team in the game…That’s my only beef
by ArizonaCactus on Dec 17, 2009 11:37 PM MST up reply actions
Bayless...
Would be the guy you would want to try and beat you…an unproven bench player who’s had a hard time cracking the rotation. Hard to game plan for a player who doesn’t get a lot of run. Just ask the Spurs after they let Goran hit all of those 3’s against them.
fair enough
maybe i just read too much blazersedge…but bayless has all the tools to be a great player….steve blake, not so much
by ArizonaCactus on Dec 17, 2009 11:40 PM MST up reply actions
Agreed...
I’ve loved Bayless since UofA but the fact is he has been under-utilized in Portland and it’s hard to game plan for a guy that you really don’t know how he’s going to be used. Yes, adjustments should’ve been made but we kept Roy relatively in check and they just had a dude step up – I don’t blame the Suns for that.
i'll agree on that
i just want it all, i suppose :)
my heart just can’t take a whole year of this up/down stuff…

I thought the Suns D was fine...
Bayless and Roy got hot…Bayless is a stud stuck in a bad situation and Roy is probably a top 10 player in this league. Suns needed to make a few more plays on the offensive end and they didn’t
Curse F'in continues
we just got cold in the 4th… stat was tired and bayless was hot. We really need to develop clark – stat couldve used some time to rest.
clark
looked lost in the brief time he was on the court…he’s not ready for prime time
by ArizonaCactus on Dec 17, 2009 11:37 PM MST up reply actions
Good game guys,
Both teams played hard, I love your guy’s blog here, and PHX is going to atleast the second round, wish i could say that for the blazers, but good luck anyways.
Odenized
calm down
it was a bad, bad loss. i am dissapointed. third road game in a row we should have won. but please, everybody, calm down.
jerryd bayless had a huge game. so we learn from that, ok? gratned, we should have learned from that about 2 quarters ago. but we will learn.
suns D was great for 3 quarters. but portland found its 3-ball in the fourth and we didnt cover it. they started getting hot and the home crowd got into it.
so many people here get absolutely ridiculous after every loss. its fine to be upset, but you have to be reasonable as well. seems like whenever we lose everybody has the same reaction:
1) BLAME AMARE
2) DESPAIR
3) START COMING UP WITH CRAZY TRADE SCENARIOS (i don’t think we’ve gotten to this yet tonight, but it will probably come)
let’s all calm down and look at what actually went wrong: OUR BENCH. clark was bad and alando was bad. i dont think our bench is ready to cover the offensive load placed on them tonight without LB and JRich. blazers, on the other hand, were ready and prepared to dig deep into their bench to find offense because of the injuries. thats the way it rolled. priorities should be finding Earl’s potential. and covering the damn 3 point line.
I thought Alando did exactly as he should’ve done. Didn’t do anything stupid on the offensive end and didn’t do anything terribly wrong on defense…quiet doesn’t mean bad.
He was a warm body
I can’t disagree with that.

I can't believe
Amar’e didn’t grab that rebound while he was on the bench….I don’t know why this always has to happen to us, maybe we’re just cursed. And I would like to trade Steve Nash for Jerryd Bayless.
by ArizonaCactus on Dec 17, 2009 11:48 PM MST up reply actions
please tell me..
somebody else saw nash get held by a portland big.
in the final play, nash was trying to get free and the guy (not sure who) held nash’s jersey for a good second or two, creating a less-than-opportune situation for him to get the ball in..
too bad it won’t make a difference
I find myself continuously forgetting
That an NBA season is not like an NFL season…..82 does not equal 16. There’s some rare perspective from me.

suns blazers game
It was a good game but i think it is time to face the facts that stevie is going to have to start shooting us to wins as w e have no one who can close games at his level,.I know that it is still early in the season but i think that i have seen enough to know that stevie is our only clutch closer.
