Game Thread: Suns vs Wizards

Washington Wizards at Phoenix Suns, Dec 19, 2009 7:00 PM MST

Final - 12.19.2009 1 2 3 4 Total
Washington Wizards 21 26 25 23 95
Phoenix Suns 30 33 39 19 121

Complete Coverage >

Star-divide

Coach's Notes:

  • The Washington beat writers first questions for Flip Saunders were about the snow storm back home and if the Wizards were going to try and fly out tonight or hang out in Phoenix. Let's see, it's 70 and sunny here. I would find any excuse to stay
  • Saunders said the Wiz have been playing well but just not winning games. Ok...
  • Gentry talked about Gilbert going off for 50 at any point when he's healthy and like Amare he's taking some time to come back from injury but based on last night's game. He's back
  • When Gil was here in Phoenix last he dropped a USAC record 54 points on the Suns on Dec 22, 2006. If you recall he was on a payback tour giving some love to the coaches who left him off the US National team. Gentry doesn't think Gilbert is holding any grudges against him
  • Asked about getting complacent with the up-coming home stand after so many road  games Gentry turned to his white board and said "let's see..." and proceeded to write the names of the next home opponents (Cavs, Thunder, Clips, Lakers and Boston) making the point that noone's getting content.
  • Paul Coro responded "five and 0"
  • Asked for additional thoughts on the fourth quarter of the Portland game, Gentry said they just go out of rhythm and only put up 27 shots in the 2nd half instead of 40+ he's looking for. He said fatigue wasn't a factor
  • JRich's hand is still sore but he can't hurt it by playing so he's going to go. "We'll stick hi out there and see what happens"
  • LB is getting closer. Still looking at the Dec 25th game for his return

Hi

I don’t want to break the rule on SBnation, but do you know if there’s a link for tonight game?
I’m not thrilled by this game (45 points by Arenas yesterday however, be careful…), but I can’t be too selective here when i happen to be in front of the computer in the middle of the night!
GO SUNS!

Enjoying the bright side!

I read somewhere

SBnation doesn’t want to mention the feeds, and I’m disciplined! Atdhe dosn’t work right now…
I’d like to be somewhere in Arizona right now, rather than Paris…

Enjoying the bright side!

Yuck

there’s more intensity in the beer line than on the court…

Suns not playing any D and have 2 turnovers already

Thus far I'm filing this game under...

…1 of 82. Not a whole lot of fire from either team so far.

I honestly am beginning to wonder

if Hill should be starting…I would love to see him be able to come of the bench and play like 25 minutes

yup

I do to and don’t really think Dudley is a starter either but that’s the problem isn’t it

Eventually – maybe next year – Clark can start

Clark

My problem with Clark right now is whenever he gets the ball he shoots. he doesn’t pass the ball much. plus his Defensive rotations aren’t very good

Steve Nash plays D!!

by phxsuns on Dec 19, 2009 7:58 PM MST up reply actions

oh he's got a lot more problems than that

but there’s plenty of time

they are breaking him down to build him back up and that talent isn’t going anywhere

by Seth Pollack on Dec 19, 2009 8:02 PM MST reply actions

Anyone who thinks Tim Duncan is a whiner...

…really needs to be paying to Amare Stoudemire after every other time up and down the court. Nash has been scored on at least twice this season while jawing at the refs while I’m at it.

Contributor: Bright Side of the Sun Twitter: @MikeLisboa

by Mike Lisboa on Dec 19, 2009 8:03 PM MST reply actions

but dontcha know

that’s the only way to get the refs to pay attention to you..squeaky wheel

Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan

by Seth Pollack on Dec 19, 2009 8:04 PM MST up reply actions

Amare's face up game getting better

driving and spinning and finishing

but still good defensive teams know that they can collapse on him and bring two and three guys and he can’t pass the ball – especially when he’s facing the basket. That’s why back to the basket low post guys like Al Jeff and Tim Duncan are so much more valuable in the paint

So peeps

do the Suns give this lead back or blow this game apart?

Blogging Suns Basketball . twitter: @phoenixstan

by Seth Pollack on Dec 19, 2009 8:29 PM MST reply actions

Blow apart

I’m taking a shower and going out if this lead stays around 20 going into the 4th.

Contributor: Bright Side of the Sun Twitter: @MikeLisboa

by Mike Lisboa on Dec 19, 2009 8:39 PM MST up reply actions

oh really?

with our recent history, you think a 20 pt lead into the 4th is enough?

by KnowGood on Dec 19, 2009 8:44 PM MST up reply actions

If it were a better opponent,

I’d be more concerned, but the Wiz are playing so poorly, the Suns would more or less have to walk off the floor for the entire 4th to lose this game.

PHX STAN

So what is the deal with Clark, what are his issues and why isn’t he getting any time?

by bradley281 on Dec 19, 2009 8:33 PM MST reply actions

Amare...

…is going to cry tears of blood when the time comes that he is no longer playing with Steve Nash.

Contributor: Bright Side of the Sun Twitter: @MikeLisboa

by Mike Lisboa on Dec 19, 2009 8:43 PM MST reply actions

the only PG that'll work just as well with Amare

Chris Paul

He’s that type of player. I think they’d compliment each other pretty darn well.

by KnowGood on Dec 19, 2009 8:47 PM MST up reply actions

Lets call it what it is

Nash flopped

only way he can stay in front of Gilbert

but of course the refs force you to have to flop. see also bogus call on Dragic who tried to play it straight up when Gilbert ran into him and got called for hitting Gil’s forearm with his chest

No trades.

I just made my mind up. Unless something just waaaaaaaaaaaay too good to be true comes along, I’m good with this squad playing out the remainder of the season.

Amare and Rebounding

Hey, P-Stan, has Amare said anything about picking it up on the boards in the last 8 games or so? Seems like he’s taken it upon himself to kick it up a notch lately.

Contributor: Bright Side of the Sun Twitter: @MikeLisboa

by Mike Lisboa on Dec 19, 2009 8:51 PM MST reply actions

maybe but I haven't been there if he did

between the road games and what not I’ve not been to a practice in awhile…maybe after tonight’s game we’ll ask him about that

Nash has only played 26 minutes

He’ll play out the 3rd to ice the game then call it a night.
