Very Sad Trade News
As has been reported, and noted on this site, Marion and Banks are going to Toronto for Jermain the Drain.
Most here are wondering what implications that may have in the Amare Stoudemire Sweepstakes. Try to forget about Amare for a minute.
Marcus Clanks and his albatross of a contract have been moved once again.
Marion is doomed to end his NBA career as a wandering pilgrim, searching for the ever-elusive status as "the man." He has been told by Miami (as I -- and many others -- predicted) that he's not worth the money. Does anyone remember the press conference where Shawn told the media that Riley and the Heat were looking to build long-term around him? Does anyone remember Riley saying that the Marion-Wade duo was the second coming of Pippen-Jordan?
I can't help but feel that Marion has been misled along his journey. I feel a little bit bad, but then I remember he's got about a hundred-million reasons not to be too upset.
For old-time's sake, here's 'Trix and Rackstar:
Thanks for ALL of the memories

He’s been sipping someone’s koolaid. Don’t know if it’s his own or his agent’s or his coaches’, but he’s been drinking it.
I think this takes Miami and Toronto out of Stat talks, but that’s okay, becasue neither team really had what we need, because the Raptors aren’t trading Bosh and I don’t think Miami would get rid of Beasley.
Take care of the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.

I guess it’s time to hope that (a) we trade with Golden State for Biedrins, Randolph, and Turiaf, or (b) we keep Amare. Either that, or I better start liking Tyrus Thomas a lot more.

I would make
the deal of Tyrus and the Bulls No. 1

Amare
Is there anyway the Suns would be able to swing Amare to Toronto for Marion and another piece like Bargnani or Graham or something or do trade rules prevent that?

Bringing Marion back was just a dream. Does anyone really think he’d be happy coming back here after all complaining he did in order to get shipped out? No, Marion is gone and he isn’t coming back until they make ammends and put him in the ring of honor.

I’m down with the GS trade for Biedrins, Turiaf. Biedrins can’t score like Amare, ditto Turiaf, but they can both rebound and defend like 4 or 5 Amares. Also, it looks like neither one has a problem playing the running game, so it wouldn’t be a big loss all in all, IMHO.

I honestly think Anthony Randolph can be the major scoring presence that’ll be missing with Stoudemire, so long as the Suns put him in an environment to flourish.

I hope Matrix makes it in Toronto as he was here.
He was indispensable during Sun’s golden era.
Funny that it was just 1.5 season ago.

Yeah
We’ve definitely moved on from the golden era to the dark ages.
Lets hope it doesn’t last 10 years or so like how bad the bulls have sucked post jordan.

I'm with you, JSun
In addition to whatever smoke Riley blew up Marion’s wazoo, I think he has been mislead by his success with the D’Antoni era Suns (The Bill Simmons D’Antoni Theory of Statistical Inflation at it’s finest). I’m not sure how much else has been self-delusion or by others.
While he’s an athletic freak, a great rebounder and tenacious defender, he has never been much of a ball handler and hence not been a shot creator. How anyone lacking those skills could see himself as “The Man” speaks to an inability to his own limitations.
So, yes, Shawn’s current predicament is lamentable. But it probably could have been avoided with a little clarity, self-awareness and humility, none of which are in huge supply in a lot of professional athletes, particularly ones with max contracts.
