Porter out. Gentry replaces. Amare next?
Paul Coro made it official today....
I wonder why the Suns insisted on denying the rumors so vehemently on Friday. Seems mishandled.
Also hearing Monday or sooner an Amare to Bulls trade will be announced possibly involving Dudley and Amundson with Drew Gooden and Tyrus Thomas coming back along with another player.
I am not a big fan of this trade if that's what ends up happening.

That trade BLOWS.
I want Noah/Sefolosha/Thomas, all three of them, not just freaking Tyrus Thomas.
Why wouldn’t they see how Amare plays w/ Gentry’s system Tuesday and Wednesday before pulling the trigger?

Sorry, but you're not getting TT/Noah and Sef.
This isn’t a basketball move by Kerr. It’s not his fault. It’s a financial deal being forced through by Sarver.

Oh, and I agree...
The firing is totally botched. Clean breaks are the best. This lingering, rumor-mongering mess is a debacle. When will we learn.. it’s never the scandal, it’s always the cover-up that gets one in hot water.

On ESPN.com, Michael Wilbon alleges (in the video accompanying the article) the Suns veterans wanted Gentry all along… Does anyone recall hearing anything to this effect? If so, it maybe bodes well for the next 31 games…

Totally understand why you guys would be upset, but where does it say anywhere in the article that an Amare trade is forthcoming? All it does is talk about Porter. All the signs seem to be pointing towards you guys keeping Stoudemire…

I just read it
The majority of that article criticizes his financial moves and cost-cutting. The alleged “cheap” Sarver is a load of bull. He may have made bad moves, but he has yet (YET) made a move solely motivated by money. He’s spent a ton on players to chase the ring. It is clearly nowhere within the organization’s grasp anymore, and he he is criticized for not continuing to throw good money after bad and turn the Suns into the Kings?
When the Suns were over the cap, mortgaging the future to get a title, no one complained. When the title began slipping away in the months before the Shaq trade, every arm-chair quarterback and history revisionist started second-guessing moves aimed at “winning now.”
Well, it’s time to start rebuilding for the future. Trading Amare signals building for a future 5 years away. I do hope that Sarver is rebuilding for the very near future.
Sarver has had bad GMs, and D’Antoni was one of them. Then, he hired another one.

What do you call selling all of your draft picks?
That is why you guys are old and have no other alternative but to sell cheap on your best player. Sarver went all the way on the guys that you have and it didn’t work. Shaq was thought to be the piece that would get you over the top. It didn’t work and without any picks, (besides R. Lopez), you guys are stuck with what you’ve got. And you’re not even a playoff team! So, it’s time to blow it up. I know it sucks for you Suns fans. But us Chicago fans have been going through it for 10 years since Jordan, Pippen and Phil left.

How it could happen: The Lakers get worried they’ll lose Lamar Odom to free agency this summer, and they get worried they’ll lose Andrew Bynum to knee injuries every season if the current trend holds up. They send them to Phoenix in exchange for O’Neal. The Suns get the payroll relief of Odom’s $14 million expiring contract and a promising young player in Bynum at only 60 percent of the cost of Shaq.

You guys will love Tyrus. He makes watching the games pretty entertaining. He will dunk on people almost every game trust me!!!! He could very well become a force in the league. I wouldn’t be surprised. I’m a Bulls fan and I personally don’t want to see him traded. His shot’s not to bad and he’s fairly consistent. He’ll get you 3 swats a game or so. Sample….?
by ImmanuelKant on Feb 15, 2009 4:46 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
wow
3 swats per game? what are you basing this on?
Tyrus is not a “very good player” he is a bust. He is especially not a “very good player” compared to Amar’e. Someone saying that they dont want to see him traded is the definition of a homer.
by proposals on Feb 15, 2009 4:52 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
All I know is I have watched Tyrus for the past few years and he impacts the game.
I wouldn’t call him a bust at all. He hasn’t had consistent minutes and now that he is he’s putting up double doubles. So… if you wanna call me a homer thats cool but I think he’s the Bulls best player behind Rose. BG scores but thats it.
I will say this that he may end up being a top 5 shot blocker in the league by next season. I can only imagine if he had a scoring center to play along side. Nash is going to love this kid. I swear he has Randy Moss like freakiness. You can throw a lob to him and he will fetch it. Had the Bulls had better passers and not all jump shooters maybe Tyrus would be getting more respect.
This is all naked eye so take it or leave it.

Amare is an absolute stud
and If I was a Suns fan I would be pissed to see him traded. As a Bulls fan, I would be ecstatic to see him come to Chicago. Tyrus has the potential to be a very good player, his impact being especially seen on the defensive side ( he excels coming from the weak side down low as a shot blocker). His averaging 3 blocks a game during a season is not out of the question. Since 12/1 he has played well and consistently, I believe his PER is at 16 during this time (not a stat guy, feel free to check it out yourself). Calling him a bust is understandable due to your lack of exposure to the Bulls, but reeks of not knowing your subject matter.
by idel212 on Feb 15, 2009 5:08 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah you put Tyrus with Nash a guy who looks to pass first and shoot second you might have something.
if they can build a Payton/Kemp relationship on the court that would be scarey and then have Shaq scoring? I woudn’t call Gooden Garbage either! I think his biggest knock is just he shoots outside shots a lot. But he can score and he would be a good option off the bench.
He just doesn’t fit with the way Rose plays. I think the Suns style of play has slowed down to where Gooden might be a nice pick up for you.

Well, if this trade happens, I guess I can be relieved it ain’t the Cavs trade, but if Portland was really offering Jerryd Bayless and Raef LaFrentz, I would rather take that one, since Bayless has a much greater chance of being a real impact player.

i can’t decide who i hate more… sarver or kerr. if they were in the business of breaking hearts, they would have a monopoly
I'm just like you, only ten times better.

I can decide and it's Sarver
For all the reasons already written about here and elsewhere.

This is ridiculous!
If this is the plan for “Nobert Carver” and " Never O’Kerred To The Obsurd" to save on the luxury tax, they better think again! First they try to put out in the media, that all of the fans are fed up with Amar’ e. Next it’s “We expect more from him” and “He needs to step up his game”. Last it’s we need to save money , because we’re paying out more than he is worth and losing games, which is going to cause fans to stop coming to our games and buying tickets.
So now it’s time to set the old toy out at the curb and see if whoever drives by wants to take him off our hands for free!! Oh and how about I throw out Lou too!! I didn’t pay much for him and got to use him for awhile. Alas I have grown tired of playing with him too.(never mind he has quickly become a fan favorite and some of us peons (Me!!) enjoy watching the game with him in it). Let’s keep Shaq though, he’s big (therfore better) We paid alot for him and we can play our whole game around him. He’ll be worth 10 x’s this garbage we just set out, and the rest of the bench/toys;( Lopez, Tucker, & Dragic) we’ll keep that stuff too, because I haven’t had time to play with them yet , maybe I can use them later and who cares if they won’t work???
Oh wait, somebody just traded us some stuff in return. Wow!! it looks like some old toys that no one wanted. Maybe “Kurd” can make them shiny and try to pass them off as new to our friends, they didn’t cost anything! There’s also a $10 giftcard for food , maybe we’ ll use it to feed the team/toys.Second thought, I think I’ll see if I can cash it in and keep the money!!! Yay!!!
If this is the crap they think we are going to eat , they can kiss their money goodbye. They will be losing a hell of a lot more revenue from the fans, than they will on their da** luxury taxes. If this is the trade they make, I will be dropping off every bit of my merchandise to USAC in pieces and sending a letter to the aforementioned idiots in case they still don’t get it!!.
We the fans know when we’ve been fed B.S.and it isn’t going to fly. We paid taxes to build the arena/center. We buy the tickets, the concessions, and the merchandise. We are more the Owners of this team than Sarver could ever be, because we know that ego, money, and prestige don’t make a team. It’ s the fan’s, coaching/management (with encouraging support) and team that is treated with worth that develops into great ness. We know the suns have the essentials of that! Now It’s time for the owner, management and coaches to step up their game and take responsibility for their mistakes. DO THE RIGHT THING! KEEP THIS TEAM TOGETHER! ( like Nash has asked, otherwise the face of your franchise wont re-sign! ) Sarver if you need money , sell your stocks or your $1,000 trashcan, quit giving overpaid jobs to cronies ( cause they arent doing a heck of a job and neither did Brownie) and letting them give jobs to their cronies. If you are a true fan like you say you are, then you will keep this team together and make the fans happy OR REALLY END UP BROKE!!! Maybe you should have a chat with Jerry Colangelo. He has and always will love our team first and foremost like the rest of us TRUE FANS! Don’t ruin the the love of the game for the team and the fans!!!!!

The Suns’ efforts to find the best deal for Stoudemire have come back to the Bulls partly because of Phoenix’s interest in Tyrus Thomas, one of the people said. The trade likely would have to include at least one of the following — Drew Gooden, whose contract expires after this season, and Larry Hughes, whose deal comes off the books after 2009-10.
Also mentioned… Portland seems to be out of it.

That seems to agree
with what Phoenix Stan posted… at least partially.

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

Well, I’m hoping at the very, very least, it’s JUST Amare for Thomas, Sefalosha, and Gooden. Keep Sweet Lou out of it!

Another very, very small positive (I’m starting to just accept that this year will be crap), is that we’ll miss the playoffs and get a lottery pick. Unfortunately, it’ll be in a pretty weak draft.

“One faction of the organization views trading Stoudemire as a "giant mistake” that would be difficult to recover from and views the firing of coach Terry Porter as a sufficient move for now."
Article is somewhat promising. Shows that at least some portion of the front office has some brains.

Watching the Terry Porter story on Planet Orange of FSAZ
And even though I don’t see him as a good fit for the Suns and readily accept he should be fired (along, however, with Kerr and Sarver), I really feel bad for him
He was a great player, seems like a good person, and deserved better from this shitshow our franchise’s ownership has become.
I really think he was brought in because he didn’t have any credibility and made for an easy scapegoat.

Yeah
I feel sorry for him too. He seems like a good guy…he just wasn’t a good fit at all with these guys. He did, after all, walk into the toughest coaching job in the NBA, so you have to cut him a little slack, although I still don’t mind seeing him go. Hopefully he’ll be successful elsewhere, if he gets the chance…

Wasn't the right fit for our team, but that wasn't our fault.
And if he really did just find out tonight that he was toast, then our ownership sucks so much more than I thought.

+1
I totally agree. He was a great player and was put in a very tough position.
He might have failed as a coach of this team but he also might have been put in an unwindable position.

Stupid rumors. Now all the regular gossip sites are reporting that it’s likely the Amare stays a Sun.

I think Sarver is just plain clumsy.
He’s just bad with people and situations.
