Fire Porter, Hire Avery Johnson

Let's face it, Porter is in a no win situation. I think he would be a great coach for a young rebuilding team, but this is not his place. Now of course it's not his fault, that he is surrounded with a lot of talent that doesn't mesh well together.

So let's go get the "Little General" Slavery, j/k,  I mean Avery Johnson. He will certainly be a demanding coach, who will let the offense play to its strengths, but also bring a tough defensive mindset and approach that this group of individuals is missing. He may have some flaws, but I can't think of any other coach out there, who is available, that is as good as Avery. And please don't say Pat Riley. We don't need any more dinosaurs then what we already have in Phoenix.

It doesn't help when your GM is a moron, and came to town preaching "defense," but traded away the four best defensive players (Matrix, Kurt Thomas, Raja, and Diaw). Let's face it, when Grant Hill is your best defensive player, and it's 10 years after 1999, we have issues.

But with that said, Avery did a great job with the Mavericks, as he should have won a ring, if he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of chokers. The Suns have some clutch players in Nash, Hill, Shaq (except w/ Free Throws). Tell me what do you guys think.

Dough Collins

is what we need, and make EJ an assistant. These guys know the suns inside/out.

There's magic out there. Telepathy. Power. Precision. Speed. But don't invest your emotional entirety or be swallowed up by addiction. After all, it's just a game.

Seriously?

You’re kidding right? Doug Collins is garbage. He’s a very overrated coach. He may be well a well spoken guy, who is an average coach. Besides he’s old and I think he’s burnt out anyways.

Heck Yeah

I was just sitting outside thinking the same thing. The suns need to fire porter and hire Avery. Porter seems to be a push over. Avery won’t let any of those guys push him around is very demanding but also won’t throw them under the bus. Good call Foyle. Maybe the suns could also hire you to be the gm. That spot should be open soon too.

No way

So we would go from the great success we had under Mike D’Antoni and his “trust the players to get it done” and “allow Steve Nash to be creative” philosophies to Avery Johnson aka the “Little General” who grated on the players in Dallas with his unyielding policies and lack of trust and micromanagement.

I think this is not a good move, file it under the bad move column.

Im not familiar...

with Avery grating on players in Dallas coz i dont really get past the game scores when it comes to teams other than the Suns. But Avery Johnson was one of the two i was rooting for to become Suns coach during the offseason (other being Paul Silas) especially w/ Kerr putting emphasis on defense. Coz i know that while Dallas elevated their defense during Avery tenure they were still able to be good offensively – something i was hoping for Suns this year.

Avery

In other words, IMHO Avery would be a better replacement for Porter, despite “Little General” issues

Hire Flip Saunders or Van Gundy

Hire Avery? Who’s going to be able to play isolation on the Suns????

Flip has been to the finals too and is an offensive-minded coach. We’ve seen how offensive energy feeds into Phoenix’s defensive energy.

Van Gundy is cool too. He set down the foundation for Miami’s ring.

Just say "no" to Avery

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2009/02/09/20090209sunsamare0210.html

“I heard (ESPN analyst) Avery Johnson say one time that I was a bad locker-room guy or whatever,” said Stoudemire, who also named ESPN analyst Tim Legler. “That’s total BS. We get along so well outside the locker room. We hang out with each other probably more than any team in the league as far as camaraderie, as far everyone hanging out together. We try to enjoy ourselves.”

…nothing like hiring a coach that’s already gotten off on the wrong foot with your franchise power forward (assuming he stays the franchise power forward) before he even gets here.

Then again, maybe THAT’S why the Suns are suddenly trying to get rid of Amare. Shudder

I vote

no Avery Johnson, I don’t know at this point who to replace Porter ( which must happen), but I do not want Avery Johnson
