That's right, I think I've still got a shot at knowing something about basketball. I've been a bit silent about the Suns lately due to Lent.
However, I may not have to wear a Marbury jersey to the Suns-Knicks game next year. I said it here, first.
Again, my thinking was that the Knicks won 22 game with Thomas, and that the Hawks got in with 37 wins that same year. Could The Mustache get at least 37 wins? Isn't he at least twice a good a coach as Thomas? (Don't point out that the roster matters).
With fifteen games to go, the Knicks are 10 wins away from 37. The current eight-seed, Milwaukee, is on pace to get 36.72 (call it 37) wins. Yeah, I know -- don't tell me that the Knicks are on pace to get 33.33 wins.
There are six teams within 1.5 games of one another for the final spot in the Eastern Conference (Mil, Chi, NJ, Char, Ind, NY -- in that order).
I haven't looked at any other teams' schedules, so I have no idea how they shake out. Here is how D'Antoni's schedule shakes out:
4 games against teams ahead of him (NJ at home twice and Chicago and Charlotte on the road). 4 games against teams that are, actually, worse than the Knicks (Minn, SAC, LAC, Tor). Against the tough opponents, they've got 3 at home (ORL, NOH, DET). Away games against Cleveland, Utah, Orlando and Miami are going to be horrific (expect an average of 20 points a loss -- if they're lucky).
They should get wins somewhere in the low 30s. Maybe they can get to the "magical" number of 37 and/or pray for the others to falter.
So ... you know ... there's a chance I don't have to dress like a fool at the game next year.
