I am calling you out, Mr/Ms Lurker

I see the numbers. There are tens of thousands hundreds of you who read this site every day and don't say a word.

No more lurking. I am calling you out. It is time to stop being a wallflower and start talking to the pretty boy across the room.

This site feels like there's a group of people in the middle of a bar talking away and hiding in the shadows are 10 times as many other pairs of eyes just watching quietly ... It's kind of creepy.

Here's the challenge:

  • If you are a lurker (i.e. a reader who's never posted a comment), sometime in the next 24 hours post your first comment.
  • You don't have to say much if you're shy
  • If you aren't sure what to say, try this: "I heart ____" and fill in your favorite Suns player.
  • You don't even have to explain your choice (unless you heart Joe Klein, in which case you had better explain yourself)
  • Or if that's too much, try this: "Hi, I am a lurker"
  • Just so we know you are here.
  • Comment anywhere. In this story. In a game thread. Wherever.

The challenge starts now. I want to hear from you people.

As the big man said.

M.A.N. THE F-K U.P.

OK I am busted

you caught me, I’ve been following this site since the off-season and have yet to make a comment, so it is time to man the f up the same way our team has the last six games and counting. Love the site and keep up the good work!!

Good article on in Az Republic. I think we’ll be chasing Portland down the stretch vs. Dallas.

I've commented plenty.

However, I keep mine short and non-memorable(like this one).

hello.

i have been in a vegas-induced coma for the last four days so i apologize for my (relative) absence. i am completely dysfunctional and have found an inabilty to complete basic thought processes.

essentially, i have become a lakers fan. and i do not like it.

pardon me, but did i read that second to last line sentence correctly??

I'm just like you, only ten times better.

by noonoo on Mar 26, 2009 6:26 PM MST up reply actions

tough to say

i haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders. taking me way too long to recover from a four day vegas bender.

I'm scared

Please don’t make fun of me :(

You're ugly and you smell bad. :)

That was fun and refreshing. I’ve been in a bad mood all day, but in this case I’m just messing with you.

I do smell bad

Maybe it’s because i sit around, reading other people’s posts everyday. I’m gonna become proactive. For now on i’m posting comments on a regular basis and start taking showers at least twice per week

Oh yeah

before I forget, welcome new people, you can address me by my screen name, or if you care that much, my given name is Lucas. Please don’t say “hi Lucas” or I’ll feel like I’m at an AA meeting.

Hi Lucas!

Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."

I heart Tom Chambers. He was always my favorite Suns player growing up. Could be because I’m a tall white guy myself?

I used to be a lurker

until one day I just had this ingenious point to make that I felt demand the suns’ universe’s attention.

But I guess it wasn’t ingenious enough… ‘cause I can’t remember what it is now.

Wow!

I had no idea there were so many lurkers! Kudos to the ones that came forward! Welcome! and for those who didn’t…

Well....

I guess I can be called a lurker. I enjoy insight from many of these blogs but fail to add to any of them. As a sportswriter I know what criticism can be like so I keep a lot of what I have to say to myself.
As they say: Your not doin your job right if your phone isn’t ringing with some angry mom on the other line.

Also a long-time lurker. Quite enjoy the blog. The Suns are a great team to watch and follow, especially now that they’ve gone back to a high-tempo game. Hope they can pull off the win tonight!

Here in our nation's capital.....

…..I read the blog in a building that the government most likely tracks key “target” words. I just figured that if I included the words Goran, Amar’e, and Amundson then they might find out I’m not working too hard. I attended the single game I could this season against the Wiz and wrote Stan promising a fanpost at the very least and sharing how much I enjoyed his insight and commitment.

Instead I showed up the game wearing an undersized Elliot Perry jersey, paying more than 3x as much for beer as my ticket price, and felt myself surrounded by more transplanted Phoenicians then I ever thought possible. Just as the sentiments of “hope” resonate through this town….I’ve lived through the “darkbury” days, so i know that regardless of how the last dozen games end up, my thoughts will be “bright” with optimism for this team.

How’s that work for ya Stan? Deep and profound….or as meaningless as a Shaq halftime tweet?

Not the first time

posting, but I mostly lurk. It’s just easier and less confrontational.

Can Horacio Llamas be one of my fave Suns? I remember I was visiting Phoenix in March of 96 or 97 and saw a game between the Suns and Mavs. The way he was introduced and the reaction he received made him an instant fave despite very limited playing time.

Hi There

Hi, Stan. I’m Diego, from Brazil. I discovered this blog recently, but really loved it. I love very much the Suns and wanna join the cheering with you, guys. Sorry the bad english.

Used to be lurker

I used to be a lurker but I couldn’t stop myself from posting and this is a great community. The people here are genuinely welcoming, sarcastically funny and good observers.

I was going to write my first fanpost sometime, but I started reading Seven Seconds or Less and its an amazing book, so I figured I’d finish that and then write it out.

Good to see all these other people here!

I met a lot of Phoenix fans on twitter too…my profile is www.twitter.com/azmanian_devil

See you guys around!

Hi my name is Chris...

I have been a lurker for the past year or so and suffer from Sports Blog ism… The Bright Side of the Sun is a great way for me to fight my condition and hopefully in the future I will be fully healthy and spending 24 hours per day on BS of the Sun.

I was actually going to join reasonably soon, and I have always been impressed with this blog. Stan called me out though.

by Willman on Mar 26, 2009 9:33 PM MST reply actions

yeah, me too

i love the suns, but its not always easy for me to comment and such all the time, cause i’m not into basketball as much as some other sports. but the fact remains the same, i love the suns, and i’m sorry for only lurking up to this point.

tough loss tonight tho.. grr..

I am astounded that you did this

on the day of a Blazers-Suns game.

Never, ever, do I gloat on another team’s blog after we beat them. It’s not nice.

But, what am I supposed to do? You tell me I must comment. About what can I comment? If I comment about the game….

I know! I’ll say what I said on Blazers Edge.

Memo to Phoenix: You still have a chance, but I highly recommend that you win in Utah on Saturday. This recommendation is purely altruistic on my part. Really. There are no ulterior motives behind this suggestion, none at all.

I used to be a lurker....

Lets go people. There are more of you out there I can tell…. You are reading these great posts by all of these insightful people and thinking something like, “WOW he is dead wrong about Gorans abilities, how can he be such a lame-ass?” Well, do what I did. Tell us why you think what you think. Stan is doing something great here with this post and I think these are the sorts of things that really show our team we care.

My daughter asked me if she could have broccoli for breakfast…. Where did I go wrong?

Hey guys, love your work. I’m a Suns fan on the east coast, grew up being a fan of Sir Charles and KJ and being afraid of Shawn Kemp and the Sonics. Now my favorite Suns are Amare and grant Hill and I’m now terrified of Tim Duncan and Tony Parker.

I’ve been hiding from myself for so long, it feels good to be out from the shadows…

I heart Mike Sanders.

Anyone remember him? From what I gather, he was the Lou Amundson of the early-mid 80’s.
