Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

Junk It.

To me, the Suns have to make changes at 3 roles, in order to be a contender next season:

  1. Fix the interior/post man defense
  2. Fix the exterior/guard position man defense
  3. Fix the pick & roll defense.

I'm not sure it's possible to adjust this team, that much, and still retain it's offensive firepower.   Or stay within reach of the luxury tax threshold.  Moreover, I'm not sure whether the right players are out there, and available, that can come in and help, and fit in at the same time on both ends of the court.

I understand how difficult it is to build a team, and find talent in the draft, but this team has had it's day, and has pieces of some value that it can use in trades.

It's time to rebuild, or in the words...:

I'd be willing to bet...

that trade scenario doesn’t happen. The Hornets tried to get rid of Tyson Chandler to dump salary. They’re not going to take on Shaq’s 20M this season.

T.Ariza, D.Lee, Tyson Chandler, Marvin Williams, or JR Smith

Hill gone, Ariza signed
Shaq traded, David Lee signed.
That would fix defense on perimeter and Lee is quicker than Shaq on the defensive pick and roll.

I also seen the Tyson Chandler for Shaq deal being rumored. While Nash would love to throw lobs to Chandler like CP3, can he stay healthy? It is intriguing since he blocks shots and is only making 11 million next year compared to Shaq’s 20 million.

Thats about all I can see out there on the free agent market. Iverson is past his prime, Boozer is under-sized, Lamar Odom is over 30, Okur would be an interesting signing, Utah is keeping Millsap, Ben Gordon doesnt fit because PHX has Barbosa, Jamal Crawford doesnt fit, Rasheed is old, Artest is a head case, JR Smith is intriguing, and the last option I see is Marvin Williams from Atlanta.

Thats all I can see barring a trade.

Artest's shooting is crap this year but he makes up with his D

Artest also did not give up on his game this season. I hope the Ming Dynasty makes it past the first round as Artest and Yao Ming really deserves it for the way they lead their team.
