Daily Poll - Should Dwight be suspended?
Suns fans know a thing or two about suspensions to key guys during the playoffs.
Now it might time for Magic fans to share the pain. Different circumstances for sure, but the result has to be the same. At least one game for Dwight.

God the NBA gets wussier every day that goes by.
I miss the Kevin McHale clothesline days. If Trevor Ariza can knock Rudy out of the air and not get suspended, then this should fall in the same category.

Rondo too..
But shots to the head from behind should be punished with appropriate severity.
The refs in both were exercising a discretion that wasn’t theirs. Fouls to the head, with an elbow, are automatically deemed to be technical fouls, and the fouler is automatically ejected.
We’ll see Stu Jackson do his usual weasel act, and let these guys off.
not to open old woulds, or harp on the past, but my beef with Stu & David Stern wrt the Amare/Boris suspensions was not that they were in fact suspended, but that Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen had committed the same transgression earlier in the game, and were not punished.

Agreed
Some consistency would be nice. Also note last year’s Hawks-Celtics bench-clearing “altercation” and KG grabbing the official. Given the acts and punishments doled out (or not doled out) over the last two years, the Suns’ suspension seems to be a disproportionately severe punishment.
Mmmmm ... Guinness
KG
he gets away with a bunch of stuff. And everyone jusy shrugs and say “Hey, dude wants to win. That’s why he’s so intense!!” Fact is that the dude is a punk. As simple as that.

You'd love him if he played for us.

Not really
I hate trash talking, I hate players that think they can intimidate you. If someone is looking for it fine. But if you start running your mouth just because you are winning…you’re a punk. You should respect your opponent at all times, at least that’s what I think.
"Basketball doesn't build character. It reveals it"
Players talk trash 'cos it works.
Psychology is almost as important as skill. Courtesy is given. Respect is earned.
Biggest trash talker ever?? Larry Joe Bird.
Best trash talk.. game 1, 97 finals, Scottie Pippen to Karl Malone.
Game tied, seconds to go, Karl Malone has two free throws to shoot. Scottie says to Karl: “Just remember, The mail man doesn’t deliver on Sundays, Karl.”
Karl misses both free throws. The Bulls inbound, and Jordan swishes a freebie 20ft shot to win the game.

Is a fact that it works
I don’t disagree with that. And sometimes it doesn’t. It’s part of the game, just like flopping. I prefer to demoralize my opponent by playing well and showing him that he can’t stop me on the court.
Free throw shooting trash talking…I’m cool with that. I’ve heard the funniest things.
"Basketball doesn't build character. It reveals it"
even when he's in a suit.
the guy just doesn’t rest. that was probably right after the celtics had won (barely) in overtime. KG was probably silent up until that moment.

Yeah, but Larry Bird....
would tell you what he was going to do, and then do it.
I can’t think of a more demoralizing way to play a game, than to be on the butt end of that kind of trash. But seriously… part of the point of trash is to get your opponent to start thinking about the trash talk, and lose focus on the job at hand.
In the NBA, a split-second is an eternity’s worth of advantage, especially if you’re a Bird or a Jordan.
BTW, favorite Larry trash: Boston/Indiana Xmas game, where Larry takes the ball from around 28’, swishes a 3, and then runs past the Indiana bench, screaming “Merry F*****g Xmas!!”. classic.

And now Larry's the president of the mediocre at best Pacers. Sweet irony.

He did take the Pacers to the FInals as coach.
I’m wondering… is he the only player to have won both MVP, and Coach of the Year ?

Yup, but there's a risk it might back fire on you
Remember what happened to KG when he tried to trash talk Amar’e last year? He made a fool of himself cause Amar’e not only talked back but dunked on him several times, scored +25 points and sent him to the bench with early foul trouble. I guess only great players trash talk cause they know they can do what they promise. The reason I never did it/do it it’s cause I’m not that good, and I prefer to be on the other side so that when someone trash talks to me I’ll do my best to make them look stupid. Now that’s priceless and classic.

Not to mention
a similar situation with the Celtics last year. But so much for the letter of the law.
I think it was
That Horry got one game for the hip-check and another for throwing an elbow at Raja.

Horry got 2 games
in a pitiful attempt to placate Suns’ fans
“Sure, Amare got a game, but Horry got two.”
Mmmmm ... Guinness
what are you talking about?
placating suns fans?
the spurs fans are the ones we should be thinking about, here.
robert horry > amaré stoudemire.

It wasn't so much to placate
As it was to attempt at painting a false picture of “justice” or “fairness” or “congruity”. They only bothered to suspend Horry so that they could say “see, we suspended a Spurs player as well, and for a whopping TWO games, this should quell all speculation that we are anti-Suns and in fact, sneaky, hypocritical weasels.”
not talking about Rondo here?
of course, why would the best player on the depending champ get suspended????
Not suspension-worthy
But it should’ve been a flagrant foul. Hollinger did a pretty good explanation as to how that would’ve impacted things.
Mmmmm ... Guinness
Agreed.
It’s embarrassing that they didn’t upgrade that to a Flagrant 1. It’s not a 2, and I don’t think worthy of suspension, but Rondo getting off without even a fine or a slap on the wrist is another example of the NBA being completely unwilling to admit the majority of their mistakes.
It's a 2.
Closed fist.. draws blood from Miller.
Clearly malicious intent. That’s what counts.

I disagree. Whatever "counts" is what Stu and Stern have ultimately decided upon.
In spite of all the hypothesising with regard to “consistency” and “accountability”, these concepts are either alien to, or incongruous with the way they want to run the league. I just wish there was something I could do to put a stop to all these injustices. One blatant example, without considering the big man vs small man debate, is how Pauline Gaysol gets a free pass at elbowing every f**king person in the face, because his reputation as a Spanish Pussy probably lets the ref think “there’s no way that could have hurt much, this guy is a pussy anyway”, so they let him get away with elbowing people anytime he wants. While Dwight throws a standard roughouse elbow and everyone is like “omfg it’s Superman Dwight, Dalembert’s going to be lying in the ER now”. Such hypocrisy. These double standards will never be highlighted by the mainstream sports jouranlists, of course.
Here in my country, a Christian fundamentalist group has infiltrated and sabotaged a secular organisation, and is exploiting the Christian faith to garner support for its hostile takeover, by inciting Christians to “stand by other Christians”, when in fact their actions and intentions are nothing short of evil. So yeah, nothing Stu Jackson and David Stern do surprise me anymore. Lakers-Cavs Final, with lots of the expected and predictable storylines for mainstream sports writers to wank over. yawn
Yeah.. don't disagree..
you can betcha ass, that if the Nuggets & Lakers meet, there are going to be some pretty hinky decisions going against the Nugs.
As for the Rollers.. this country has that problem too..
If you ask me there are too many Rollers, and not enough Lions.

Hmm yeah, I was disagreeing more for the sake of disagreeing.
I’ll pull that off, but damn, I really don’t see the Nuggets beating L.A, even though I like the way the matchups look on paper. I’d say it all depends on the mental focus of the Nuggets. If Melo and JR start crying and whining when some calls expectedly go L.A’s way, things could get ugly. But if Carmelo Anthony shows why he’s the best post-scorer at his position, and one of the most skilled SFs in today’s game, and JR gets on another hot-from-30 feet streak, the Nuggets might actually be headed for the NBA Finals. I like Kenyon Martin beating up on Pauline, and Billups’s domination of Fisher will be key, in addition to continued solid bench play by the Nuggets, those will all be major factors.
