Cap space!
You see, with Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic most likely being bought out, we can sign somebody now! We've just entered the free agency market. Players like:
are all available. Granted, names like Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom are free agents, but probably won't be leaving their teams.
I think we should at least take a look at Ron Artest, Allen Iverson, Shawn Marion, Al Harrington and Rasheed Wallace. Sheed might fill a hole at the 5, Artest plays great defense, Iverson is a great penetrator unlike anyone we have, Marion plays great defense and is well-loved by the Phoenix crowd, Harrington had an incredible year in an up-tempo environment...at least one of these guys might be interested. Even if we don't pull in Ricky Rubio or Troy Murphy as I had suggested in my last FanPost, one of these guys would be a really great addition.

Gortat if this trade doesnt go through
Otherwise I really don’t care much – however I understand that we don’t have an incredible amount or Cap space, so mid level exception is more likely – ruling out Turkoglu and some higher priced individuals.
We'll be under the tax threshold
But i don’t think we’ll be under the salary cap, which means all we have to offer is the MLE and the vet min….and Sarver sure as heck isn’t going to use the MLE.
Steve Nash, the league's MVP, is a longhaired Canadian who spoke out against the war in Iraq and reads The Communist Manifesto. Quentin Richardson declared after a game-winning shot that it "was like Hamlet. It was a suspense thriller, and I killed them at the end." Amare Stoudemire, when asked to comment on a 22-point third quarter against the Kings, said, "I've got a tendency to jump over some guys' heads and throw it down."
Even if both end up being cut/retired/bought out, we won’t be anywhere near having real cap space. The idea that Sarver “sure as hell won’t use the MLE” is also unfounded; he has given out plenty of large contracts when the luxury tax isn’t a threat. If Wallace retires we’ll have enough space to use that MLE without the tax being a factor. The guys on your list would only be a possibility in a sign and trade (well, except Gooden possibly, don’t think he’s in much demand)
they don't make sense anymore if we're rebuilding
my entire perspective has changed :(

Billups for Ai was the deal that dropped my esteem for Dumars a notch.
total money move.
Who are these guys again?
the opposite for me.
Smart move by Joe, the team needed to rebuild.
Pistons still got to the playoffs (and they weren’t going to go past the 1st round, even with Billups), and now have a pile of cash with AI’s and Sheed’s terminated contracts. Their current commitment for the upcoming season is only $33.75M, and $11.2M for ‘10-’11.
